Oak Valley Golf Club boasts the only Arnold Palmer-designed course in the Winston-Salem area. The course sprawls across what used to be old dairy farmland, nestled in the North Carolina foothills. Palmer utilized the rolling, wooded terrain and transformed the site into one of the Triad’s most scenic golf courses. The layout presents many challenges, including strategically placed sand traps along the undulating greens. You will also come across a fair amount of water hazards throughout the golf course. Palmer, known for his "go for broke" playing style, incorporated several interesting risk-reward holes and it has become what the course is known for. Good drives will be generously rewarded while an errant shot will make it tough to even get a bogey. Oak Valley Golf Club is a favorite among local golfers.

Helpful staff

Staff extremely friendly and helpful. Starter provided helpful course conditions of greens stating there were firm. Allowed me to play short of pins and have a good round. My playing partners enjoyed the course as well.

Always Delivers

Oak Valley seems to always deliver great course conditions from tea to green. The fairways are fantastic, the greens are absolutely wonderful and they roll true and they all roll the same. It’s absolutely a great golf course!

Great Palmer Course

The course layout is an excellent Arnold Palmer design with water on several holes and some decent elevation changes incorporated. Unfortunately, and this was my fault and choosing, I played only a day or two after the greens were aerated and thus I am unable to speak to the actual quality of the greens. I will certainly plan to go back when the greens have healed. Overall the course was very enjoyable but with aerated greens it is tough to enjoy any golf experience fully (in my opinion).

Course is usually in good shape but there Has been an Airafication alert for several weeks so I figured the greens should be in the healing process but looks like they had just put a fresh batch of sand on all the greens and still was charged full price.☹️ Will be back in a couple of months when the greens are healed up and the fairways are green

Aerated greens

We did not see a aeration warning before we booked! Would not have played the greens were coverd in sand! I play once a week and usually book thru Golfnow, the course said it was Golfnow’s fault, hopefully I can get a coupon or something to make up for it.

Fun Course; Bad COVID Precautions

First the bad, none of the staff in the clubhouse was wearing a mask even though there were signs on the door stating that masks were required. This included the man at the register and the woman at the grill/snack bar.

Now for the good, Oak Valley is a really fun layout which was in very good shape for late March and especially considering there had been some rain recently. The greens were perfect, a little firm with a smooth and true roll. The fairways were as good as they can be for this time of year and although they looked muddy from a distance were not and obviously had drained quite well from the recent rains. The only knock on the course itself is many of the par 4s are a bit repetitive particularly on the front. Also wished there had been some mixed tees advertised on the scorecard, the white tees felt too short but the blue felt too long so we played the whites. Didn't realize until about halfway through there were mixed tees because they were not on the scorecard.

Overall a fun layout that isn't too challenging but has some interesting features in really good shape.

Fun round

Played for the first time. Last minute tee time. Fun course. Greens were smooth, fairways were alright but that’s due to winter and rain.

Review

The course was absolutely soaking wet. Rain was 3 days prior to playing but still was like a swamp. We lost 5 balls with tee shots in middle of fairway that we never found. Walked in saturated fairways and other area all day. Have to rate greens as a plus as they were quick and smooth considering the condition of rest of course. Was cart path only which wasn't mentioned when we checked in. Only found out from starter...not very courteous of shop staff to not mention that when we called for tee time that a.m. that we played. Very disappointed overall.
