Oak Valley Golf Club
About
Oak Valley Golf Club boasts the only Arnold Palmer-designed course in the Winston-Salem area. The course sprawls across what used to be old dairy farmland, nestled in the North Carolina foothills. Palmer utilized the rolling, wooded terrain and transformed the site into one of the Triad’s most scenic golf courses. The layout presents many challenges, including strategically placed sand traps along the undulating greens. You will also come across a fair amount of water hazards throughout the golf course. Palmer, known for his "go for broke" playing style, incorporated several interesting risk-reward holes and it has become what the course is known for. Good drives will be generously rewarded while an errant shot will make it tough to even get a bogey. Oak Valley Golf Club is a favorite among local golfers.

Awesome, but….
Fantastic course, layout and staff. Only issue for me were the ball marks. I mean holy smokes. Good look putting a true line to the hole. I’d have take twenty minutes on the green just to fix all the ball marks in my putting line😂. Other than that it’s a great course. Obviously not the staffs fault but more hope the criminals not fixing their ball marks see this
FIX YOUR BALL MARKS ON GREENS!!!
That should be a sign that is put on every green at the course. The only complaint I have with Oak Valley is that people just don’t care or don’t know how to repair ball marks on the greens. Not the course’s fault obviously, but it really was bad on the putting surface.
Almost A Five Star
The golf course was REALLY nice and playable while really challenging for all levels in out group. The greens were in “good” shape, but I would have rated them “excellent” and given a 5 star overall EXCEPT FOR the awful ball mark damage on the greens. Not the course’s fault obviously. I mean, if you don’t repair your ball marks on the green you ought not be out on the course!!
Played Oak Valley on a weekend trip to Winston-Salem. I don't typically write reviews but this course was too deserving of 5 stars. Amazing conditions/layout for the price, the perfect amount of difficulty. Couldn't have asked for a better overall experience!
Hole handicap
Was disappointed that 4 of the top 6 handicapped holes were the par 5’s, hard to score with no par 5 reachable…
Course is in great shape.
Hit almost every fairway and green. Shot an 78. I was on fire!!
Greens were true. Fairways were well kept.
I will go back soon
Great course, Beware
Course was in exceptional condition, for the time of year and not having had much rain. The front nine is somewhat challenging if you're a first timer. Do not bother stopping at the turn for refreshments or something to eat, the service is poor and the food, not any better. The back nine is as challenging as always, ball placement is a must. At the time we played there were a number of holes " cart path only" and being mobility challenged, made play quite difficult. Some of the hazards are poorly marked and obvious G.U.R. was not marked. I guess it's up to your discretion, not a problem, unless you play by the rules. None of the above challenges were brought to our attention at time of check-in, and no considerations allowed for my limitations.
All in all, we had a good time and enjoyed the lay-out of the course.
Average Palmer Design
This course does not have any of the typical Palmer characteristics and the overall design is just so so. It traverses thru a housing development that is very upscale for the area. The course was extremely wet the day we played with 6 holes being cart path only. The 7th hole is a par 5 that's just a design disaster. It's built in on one of the many low points of the property and the fairway was a quagmire. Bentgrass greens that were full but slow (maybe a 9 on the stimp) and bumpy. Staff was friendly and helpful. Small snack bar with limited food options (bring your own). Practice range is small with "irons only" signs everywhere. Range balls are worn out and in dire need of being replaced.
OV 3/24/23
Greens had been aerified 3 days prior to the round. No warning was given beforehand from the course or the website. Snack bar was closed on an 80 degree day with perfect weather. Very disappointed to have wasted vacation days to play on a course that was unplayable.
Nice, but tough course
Played here yesterday. Nice course with friendly/helpful staff. The course was wet as it got a lot of rain the day before., but still in overall good condition. I would like to play it in the spring/ summer when the grass is nice and green. I will say, it is a tough course. I played the blues at 6,682 yards and a 133 slope rating. I feel the slope rating should be more like a 138-140, as it was more difficult than other courses of that rating. Overall, it’s a nice course and definitely a great value for the $
Great!
Was wet but the course drained pretty well for the most part. Greens fast and rolling nice. Love the layout. Typical rolling hills with lots of elevation change in this area of the Triad.
