Nice layout
Enjoyed the layout and conditions were great. Greens a little damaged but overall really nice looking and playing course
This course is awesome
Very difficult course the greens are very hard to read.
Nice Layout
The course was in very good condition overall and the greens were excellent. I especially liked the layout. A very good mixture of holes long and short and very different from the front to the back. A fair test and yet very playable.
little river great course greater potential.
This course has a great feel. Vary challenging. Not much room for error off the fairway. I feel with the right touch up, this course could hold a PGA tournament. If you get the chance this is a must play. Really classic course. Play from the blues if you really want to test your ability.
Fell short of expectations
We were excited to play Little River because we heard it is a great layout. It is but the condition of the course was poor. The fairways were like concrete with very little grass and the greens were in poor shape. There appeared to be a serious lack of watering. The tee markers on most holes are in poor shape. It makes you wonder whether there are financial issues.
On top of the poor conditions it took us 5 1/2 hours to play 18 holes. The course advertises a pace of play of 4 hrs 10 minutes will be enforced by the golf staff. In 5 1/2 hours we didn't see a member of the staff on the course. We were very disappointed in the experience and will never return.
Very good layout
It is first time to play at the Little River. The overall course condition is good except for tee box. It takes me about five hours to finish up on Friday.
Great track good greens
Had very enjoyable round course was in good shape highly-rated recommended for any player looking for a good NC course to play.
Pretty decent for the locals
I'd probably not play again on a vacation, but it was a challenging layout. Course wasn't really green, and a few fairways were kinda rough looking. The green speed was nice, but a usually had to repair 3-4 pitch marks on my line.... Which gets old. The back nine was a lot more fun than the front, which I didn't expect because the front was just kind of boring. The pro shop was pretty barren, and we loaded our own bags onto carts (hey, I do it at home anyway...and this saved me two bucks on a tip) No cart girl on the course, and not too many water coolers. Overall, probably popular among locals but not as nice a the surrounding resort courses.
nice course
nice greens, well kept course. 6400 yds from whites, gets a little long at 65.
Interesting layout
Played for the 2nd time in 4 years. Course has lots of interesting holes. long par 4's and short par 4's with dog legs. Water carry shots and several elevation changes.
Course was in good conditions and greens were quite fast.
Only draw back was when we made the turn the grill was not prepared to searve food. Only had a few sandwhiches to serve and said they had hotdogs .... but had to wait 15 minutes for the hotdogs. Almost lost our turn.
Overall a good experience and I would recommend. We paid $70 off of GolfNow.com.
One of my favorites to play
I live in the area, and play this course several times a year. The holes are nicely varied in terms of length, shape, and elevation, and it's nearly always in excellent condition. The course plays fairly short from the red tees (I'm female), or from the golds for men, but bunkering, hazards and some sloped greens keep it challenging. Somewhat more so from the whites with a few forced carries as well as added length, and it plays to over 7000 yards from the blues, so it suits a lot of games.
For the $80 rack rate, I'd expect a higher level of service - an attendant to unload my trunk at the bag drop or meet me in the parking lot with a cart, the water stations to be promptly refilled, a beverage cart, etc. But for the $45 or less I typically pay, I'll cheerfully load my own clubs, bring extra water, and wait for the turn, and consider the course worth every penny.
Paid a bit over $40 yesterday, the course was in great shape, it was a gorgeous day, I was paired with three truly delightful local gentlemen (another single and a twosome), and had a terrific time.
greens were not receptive
Great layout typical of the Pinehurst area. Greens were large but very hard. I am a 15 and my son is a 10. He hit some great shots that were not rewarded. Ball did not even make a divot. I was satisfied with Golf Now price that I paid but would have been disappointed if I had paid full price which I believe is around $80 per player. This was not a bad experience and I would play here again.
Great course
Greens were fairly fast. Fairways were starting to switch from winter grass to bermuda but they still in excellent shape! Staff were very polite and professional. Can't go wrong with the specials for Little River.
Great for the price
Our group is staying at Little River, so it was convenient to play the course the day we arrived. Was a little dry but good shape for the price.
Nice Course in the Country
Played 2 days after a heavy rain, fairways are dormant, greens were great. Front nine is straight forward, back nine tightens up with a some interesting doglegs and a few water holes. Nice clubhouse and grill with a covered patio. Definitely will play again.
Good greens , hard to read
Good layout, enjoyable round could have been better, found the greens very undulating and hard to read.
Cart path only
Course in good shape for the weather we have had . Think we could have played with 90 rule.
very nice place to play
I have enjoyed both rounds at Little River. The only thing is that I wish there was a tee between the gold and the white. The clubhouse look very nice. The food in the bar was excellent and staff was very nice.
Needs attention
I played two weeks prior and the pin's were in the same location as were the tee's. The green's had pinestraw and other debris on them and the bunker's were in bad shape. They were washed out on the faces and I could tell they hadn't been raked in weeks. On a good note the turf was in decent condition, healthy. I couldn't believe that there was a tree laying on the 14th green when I got up there. The only reason I could think why it wasn't cleaned up before golfer's get to it is that there was nobody working that week. I am thankful for golfnow because there's no way I would pay the crazy rates they have.
