Lochmere Golf Club
About
Located near the banks of Swift Creek, Lochmere Golf Club has plenty of water incorporated into the layout, coming into play on nearly every hole. The golf course stretches across a lush, gently rolling landscape sprinkled with mature trees and ponds. The terrain showcases the best in Triangle golf. At just over 6,600 yards it is not particularly long, but it provides plenty of challenges. It is a tight course that will test your accuracy with narrow fairways lined with trees. The small greens that are heavily protected by well placed bunkers demand thoughtful strategy and pinpoint control. The golf course offers a fair challenge but it is still accessible for beginners, especially from the forward tees. Lochmere G.C. is a favorite among Cary locals, both for its enjoyable design and its affordable rates.

It's a good course to play on when it is dry for a few days. The only thing I dislike is the holes feel all the same, nothing interesting or to remember.
Nice layout short holes
Played from blue tees course is on the shorter side. And layout is awesome however the course stays wet for a long time after some rain and alot of tee boxes and fairways missing grass I live in the area and the winter wasn't that bad. I will play the course again dont get me wrong but there are nicer places to go play. Staff is 5 star by far everyone is super friendly!
Recent Weather Matters Here
First, I like this course, and you probably will, too. Not too long or overly demanding on shot-making, but...
WARNING--if there has been significant rain in the 7 days before you play, this course will be boggy. I actually had two sunny days prior to my tee time, but it's simply at the low point of the surrounding topography, and while I did expect cart path only to be in effect, I did not expect to create casual water with many steps on the fairway. The tee boxes were very soft and on several holes we had to tee from well back of the box to find acceptable footing. On the flip side, the greens were in great winter shape with no moisture issues.
Again, it's a fine but not top-tier course and is reasonably priced for the area. Play it when it's dry and you'll be happy.
Good course
The course was pretty good overall. It was very wet due to the crazy rain lately but I'll definitely play again.
Lochmere 2/3/19
Super friendly staff. The course conditions were a little rough due to water and lots of play. Slower foursome walking in front of us. This course should be great by mid spring. Would def play here again.
What you expect from a $27 round
Moderate length and tight fairways make this a shot-maker's course. There are scoring opportunities on most holes if you keep it in the short grass. Water hazards on almost every hole but they don't come into play as much as you might expect.
Only critique is the lack of drainage on the course. There was standing water on nearly every fairway. Granted, it's been the wettest winter of record but I haven't experienced an issue like this at other courses in the area. A member of my group said he has played the course half a dozen times throughout the year and the fairways are always wet.
Overall: It's a good under $30 course but I probably won't be back until mid-summer after a prolonged dry spell.
Wet Golf
Course was just to wet to play. No fault of the golf course. Needs to dry out for about a week...
Lochmere Round
The good...Great staff, greens and fairways!
The bad... Tall rough (lost a lot of balls), winter shadows and leaves (lost a lot of balls).
Recommendation...Keep it in the fairway and you will have an enjoyable round.
crowded course
Lochmere was mediocre, and I may not go back very often.
1.The course is crowded with foursomes going off every ten minutes. We took 4 1/2 hours to play.
2.The fairways and tee boxes are poor with spotty grass.
3.The layout is somewhat flat and boring. Houses around the course are on slopes, but the course is mostly very flat.
4.Had to hit off mats on the driving range.
A. The sand traps were in good shape.
B. the greens were good. moderate speed and slope.
C. The rough was penal but fair.
First time at Lochmere
Had enjoyable round in perfect weather. Nice proshop & driving range. Practice putting area is a bit tight, depending on number of people. Started on-time. Was positioned behind a group of walkers, so had a slow round. Course had a lot of wet areas do to Hurricane Michael, but was playable though it was cart path only. Had a good time, would play it again, but not on weekend.
Great greens!
Greens and fairways are in great shape. Pace of play - for a Sunday morning - was good. Good time to go play this course!
Nice Course
I’ve always heard that Lochmere is very wet. Considering the recent hurricane, the course was nice and dry. Fairways were in nice shape. Greens were real nice. I’ll be playing here again soon!!
Well laid out course, but constant slow play issue.
I enjoy the course, good condition, plays fair, but had to wait constantly due to slow play. Catch a weekday and you may enjoy it with a better place.
This course is worth playing
My friend and I took a few days to play in North Carolina. We found this gem with our Golf Now app and played it 4 times. Great layout, greens roll true and fairways are in great shape. Staff and members are very helpful with tips on how to play the course. We will be back next year. What a great time!
