Lochmere Golf Club
About
Located near the banks of Swift Creek, Lochmere Golf Club has plenty of water incorporated into the layout, coming into play on nearly every hole. The golf course stretches across a lush, gently rolling landscape sprinkled with mature trees and ponds. The terrain showcases the best in Triangle golf. At just over 6,600 yards it is not particularly long, but it provides plenty of challenges. It is a tight course that will test your accuracy with narrow fairways lined with trees. The small greens that are heavily protected by well placed bunkers demand thoughtful strategy and pinpoint control. The golf course offers a fair challenge but it is still accessible for beginners, especially from the forward tees. Lochmere G.C. is a favorite among Cary locals, both for its enjoyable design and its affordable rates.

Excellent round
Course was in the best shape that I've seen in years. Would have been a higher rating, but 3 members of my group called to order food at the turn, but nobody answered the phone causing us to wait about 15 minutes at the turn.
4 hour round!
For a holiday round, we were able to play 18 holes in 4 hours. Great pace of play. Some tee boxes patchy but fairways and greens are in very good condition
Very nice round
Nice course, very enjoyable round. Greens and fairways are in very good shape. A few of the tee boxes could use a bit more grass and water, which is the only reason I didn’t rate Course conditions a 5.
Nice course, fairly tight fairways and challenging pins.
Grabbed a hot deal and played with two other guys mid-day. This course becomes increasingly challenging over the 18 holes as the fairways are pretty tight, the greens are well protected by hazards, and the pins were protected by bunkers, requiring accurate approach shots. I carry around 270-280 but found myself reaching for the hybrid a number of times due to hazards at that distance or tight and short fairways. Greens were hard but slow due to the recent aeration, nothing to really complain about since I knew going in I wouldn’t be putting well because of that. Overall, a challenging course if you’re not hitting them straight or have poor course management. Well worth it at the hot deal price I paid, full price I’d probably pass.
Good deal after Aeration
I've lived here for 3.5 years now and never played here. Pretty sweet deal on this site $25 for 18 with cart since they just aerated the day before. The greens were not expected to be receptive or true, but were already growing in well. Fairways and tee boxes were definitely in great shape compared to previous reviews.
Course is challenging, since a good number of holes require you to play strategically instead of bomb it. Almost all fairways lined with trees or bunkers. The water runs through the course many areas so some shots are irons or metals off the tee.
Off course facilities are a plenty. Practice facility is fully equipped and has everything. Staff was friendly and accomodating. Only downside, they need a beverage cart person. For how busy it is, pace slowed down a couple times so a chance to stop and have a beer would have been nice.
Would certainly play here again if there is a deal. Normally the price is north of $60 for 18. That is a bit steep for this course in my opinion.
Good conditions ...
Lochmere is a fun course - and a great course for short hitters and players who prefer good lies. The greens were recently aerated which was still evident but it was not a big issue and the greens should be great in a week. The breaks were true but getting the speeds right was made together by aeration. Many shaded tee boxes offer relief on hot days but trees present challenges on a few narrow holes. Can loose a ball or two if you go astray and there are some hard pan areas off the fairways. Bermuda rough can get brutal here when not mown but today it was perfect-difficult to advance far if you’re not a clean ball striker which is as it should be. Pace of play was great but that’s likely due more to midweek and midday round on a hot day. Our foursome finished in 3.5 hours with two 30+ hc’s in the group. I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that one of our group made his first ace today on the #3 hole.

Great guys I got matched with and great coarse. You can tell they care. The price was on point.
Great course
Professional and friendly staff. Range and cart were in great shape. Greens were clean just had a number of bare spots from bad rains, I assume. I would recommend the course and return when I'm back in the area.
Not the best around
Although the rates are cheap, there is little grass on the tees, burned out fairways, and sand all over the greens. Spend a little bit more somewhere else and have a great experience.
Do not play here
Course in terrible shape - probably one of worst courses in the area. There are open holes in fairway that look like they go into the drainage/sewer system. Hit a drive down the middle on number one and saw ball disappear. Walk up and there’s an open drainage pipe near where ball landed. Waste of money.
Bermuda not ready yet
As of 5/10 Fairways at Lochmere were still very thin. Greens and bunkers great. Tee boxes on most holes very rough. I'd recommend giving it a couple of weeks.
Nice course
A very straightforward course, setup nicely for all levels of play. Greens are very nice, fairway and tee boxes likely feeling the effects of a wet Spring. I did enjoy the round, but the price is high compared to other courses in the area. You are paying to be in Cary. Try it once and see what you think.
Tuesday morning Seniors
I played behind a twosome (with no one in front of them) that took at least 2 1/2 hours for 9 holes.
Teeing area needs to be cleaned up. Broken tees all over tee areas. Grass conditions were poor. Branches all over the course. Grass needs to be fertilized.
Awful conditions
The fairways were awful!! Hardly and grass. Mostly mud and and patches of hard dirt....in the fairway.
By far the worst course I’ve ever played, that’s not an understatement.
Conditions
I assume due to a wet winter/early spring the course stayed flooded and wet. Fairways have no actual grass, just crust and dirt. Only course in area not green and growing. Glad i had a good deal from Golfnow. They have a long way to go before course is close to playable!!!
