Lochmere Golf Club
About
Located near the banks of Swift Creek, Lochmere Golf Club has plenty of water incorporated into the layout, coming into play on nearly every hole. The golf course stretches across a lush, gently rolling landscape sprinkled with mature trees and ponds. The terrain showcases the best in Triangle golf. At just over 6,600 yards it is not particularly long, but it provides plenty of challenges. It is a tight course that will test your accuracy with narrow fairways lined with trees. The small greens that are heavily protected by well placed bunkers demand thoughtful strategy and pinpoint control. The golf course offers a fair challenge but it is still accessible for beginners, especially from the forward tees. Lochmere G.C. is a favorite among Cary locals, both for its enjoyable design and its affordable rates.

Lochmere a nice 1st day course
Decent layout but nothing spectacular. Nice golf holes some look and feel the same. Reasonable test from black tees with water in play. Very pleasant club house attendant who worked with my Golfnow booking. Great deal at $14! Would play again as a first day on a week long golf trip.
Slow play
Course in fine shape, but, despite ranger on duty, 4 1/2 hours to play. This with 90 degree cart rule.
Waited most every shot. Nice course, but did I mention slooooow.
Slow play
Took 2hr and 45 min to play nine holes. No starter or ranger. This is the third time it has taken over 2 and 1/2 hours to play nine holes. I live .5 miles from this course, and I love the course but not the rate of play.
Like a walk in a park
Course was in very good condition. It was a perfect early fall day weatherwise. Only negative was the sun was soooo bright that it was tough to see the ball, especially when in the rough with the hordes of fallen brightly colored leaves. BUt hats off to the Lochmere ground crew and staff for how this course has improved over the years! Fun day of golf!
Doglegs and water
This course has plenty of doglegs and water hazards. It was my first time on the course so playing with a local helped. The greens were rolling fast and plenty of run out on the fairways. Finding a ball on the edge of the fairway in the leaves was difficult but it's late November! Overall it was a great value via golf now!
great greens still!
Always a pleasure to play Lochmere when it is in decent shape. Right now, the greens are still in good shape, the rough is tall, and the fairways are firm. Aside from the course management niceties that get missed when you have a lot of novice golfers playing ( sandtraps unraked, ball marks not fixed, etc ), this is a fun course to walk and play. AND, they have some awesome deals on merchandise in the pro shop.
Lochmere, cary nc
Tight course
Tough rough lost many balls that should be easily found
Overall hit in fairway csn score well
Fall Golf / Good Day
Golf course is in great shape. Had family in from out of state and they said great course for the hot tee price I paid. Greens are best they have been in years. Only Issue was bunkers needed prepared. Appeared they do not prep them each morning for days play.
One more set of tee's.
Course is in excellent condition. Mini Verde Greens putting very nicely and hardly any ball marks to fix on them. Some greens on the back seemed to be much slower than the ones on the front.
To help speed up play, you need one more set of tee boxes. Your Red yardage comes in at 4667 yds., which is too far for Beginners, Super Seniors and Young Kids. Another set at just over 4,000 yds. would work nicely for those who only hit their drives 150 to 175 yds. on average. This would reduce most par 4's to 190 to 260 yds. on average and give the opportunity for these short hitting players to be able to hit 7 irons to PW into these greens. It would also speed up play and make the game more fun for the inexperienced. I've noticed on another local course that they've changed the scorecard colors. They've moved the color red to the longest yardage set of tee's on the card and moved the black or gray to the up tee's. Good way to break the stigma attached to Red Tee's and get players with the help of the course to play the correct tee's for their games.
Average Course But Not Worth the Fee
Lochmere is a very average course - reminded me of a muni. Definitely not worth $60. Layout is very repetitive; that is, many of the holes are pretty much the same. Most of the "variety" came with water hazards. The layout is definitely flat, without any change in elevation to speak of. In my opinion, $40 should be tops for this course.
On the positive side, the staff was friendly and the course was in generally good condition. Greens were in good shape for this time of year and rolled true. Do note that the Bermuda is generally long and can be very challenging, especially around the greens.
In sum, a very plain course. In good shape. Not worth more than $40 for a round.
Slow round
The course was in very good condition. Not a course if you want to take a cart. It’s very flat and you should walk. I played with two members who were very friendly. The round however took 5 and a half hours and I played at 8am! I’m use to 3 and half to 4 hour rounds at that time.
Still the best greens around
The rough is getting taller, but the greens are in great shape. Fairways are in good shape too. Great walking course. Course was packed, and it took us 5 hours to play. That is my only concern - would be nice to play quicker and maintain some rhythm. Good snack bar, great range and putting green.
Has potential
THis is a good course to play and it is not far from my home . The greens needs some attention as there was some blight. It had rained a few days prior and this was still wet , and I later found out if you spit on this course it is cart path only, It does not drain well at all. The layout is nothing astounding and a couple of holes seem repetitive. The pace of play was ok, 5 hours. The staff was friendly and the starter was very professional and pleasant. I was paired with a retired married couple who were absolutely great to play a round with and that made the day more pleasant. Overall this is an under $30 course at best, and worth a shot.
Fun Day
Lockmere is re ally working hard on the greens and fairways. They are in good shape now, but see that they are trying to improve at all levels. It is a fun course to play. Being a 20 handicap it gave me a challenge. I have played here several times this year and enjoyed every round. For a semi public course, it has everything : nice putting and driving ranges.
I Love playing this course.
Improved, but....
Greens are much improved with new Bermuda grass, but layout still very flat, and a few holes are dogged by the smell of foul lowlands. Rough was brutally penal, and even lost a ball in it right next to a green. Practice area is excellent, in fact one of best for public course in the area, but unfortunately the course is not quite at same standard.
