Lochmere Golf Club
About
Located near the banks of Swift Creek, Lochmere Golf Club has plenty of water incorporated into the layout, coming into play on nearly every hole. The golf course stretches across a lush, gently rolling landscape sprinkled with mature trees and ponds. The terrain showcases the best in Triangle golf. At just over 6,600 yards it is not particularly long, but it provides plenty of challenges. It is a tight course that will test your accuracy with narrow fairways lined with trees. The small greens that are heavily protected by well placed bunkers demand thoughtful strategy and pinpoint control. The golf course offers a fair challenge but it is still accessible for beginners, especially from the forward tees. Lochmere G.C. is a favorite among Cary locals, both for its enjoyable design and its affordable rates.

Course was in terrible condition
This course was in terrible condition - from nearly unidentifiable fairways ...no grass...mud bath in a lot of areas. Tee boxes were like a cow pasture. Cart paths broken an holes everywhere.
Not a course I would recommend in the condition it is currently in.
Worst experience. Staff is rude.
My dad was visiting from out of state and was looking so forward to golfing. He reserved his spot online. Unfortunately he chose Lochmere. When he arrived, he was told it was cart path only, even though the course was bone dry. My dad has bad ankles but is fine if he can limit his walking. He asked if he could have a flag so he could at least go 90 degrees and they said no. He was afraid his ankle would flair up so he asked for a refund but they wouldn't refund him either. What kind of service is that? He thought he would try to make the best of it, even though the people were so rude. When he got to the course, the Starter was at least nice and said he would call the office for a flag. They told the Starter yes but when my dad walked back to the office to get it, they still wouldn't give it to him! It was unbelievable! He was treated so rudely and with complete disrespect. Because my dad would never break the rules, he walked way more than he should have until the pain flaired up and had to stop early. I have no idea who they think they are at Lochmere but the fairways are terrible, with hardly any grass, so they cant afford to treat people this way when we have better choices. The course is awful and the staff has no compassion. Never again. If I could give this place zero stars, I would.
Greens were in excellent conditions for March! The fairways were hard as a rock which made it difficult to get under the ball
Great location on a playable course
Great course, great location, friendly people. Mostly leveled grounds everywhere and not a long course. Busy at times and slow pace of play can be expected
A bit slow play, seems like storm damage still affecting quality
Storm damage and slow play seemed to be the best description to use
Good greens
The greens were in very good shape.
Very true rolling.
The fairways and tees were lousy!
Much like a cow pasture.
Terrible conditions
The tee boxes and fairways were terrible. There was basically no grass in the fairways, like playing off muddy hardpan. Pace of play was a little over 4 1/2 hours and no ranger on the course. If it was free to play, still not worth it.
Great time
Enjoyed the course with my daughter. The course was in beautiful shape for this time of year. Perfect greens.
This course has great staff
Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable. Course was flat with lots of sand traps around the greens. Grass is not up yet but greens were in good condition. Would recommend course.
Excellent layout but.....
The course had a very nice flow to it and the layout was great. There's not many bunkers to challenge you however, there is plenty of water strategically placed that offers you plenty of challenges. I wouldn't recommend playing this course until the grass turns green, the fairways were almost non existent, it felt like I was just hitting off of dirt. The greens were in good shape and rolled true, they were also lightning fast, I would say about a 12 on the meters. Overall this course has potential to be great, I would just like to play it again once everything greens up to see if the fairways improve. For the price I would definitely not play it in the winter again, although during the summer it seems to be a decent price.
Don't waste your money and time! Go to other triangle courses!
So very disappointed in this course. The only green grass literally is on the driving range and greens. The fairways are all dirt, mud and are atrocious! The tee boxes are mud, dirt and alot are uneven. The course is so bad that missing the fairway is basically a good thing because it may improve your lie. The pace of play is so slow that you are going to average 4.5 -5 hrs at least to play. The pace of play is AWFUL! The only reason this course gets any attention is because it's in Cary! Do yourself and your friends a favor and go play other Raleigh-Durham courses and don't waste your time and money playing this over priced run down course.
Great layout, but they need to fix the drainage problem.
I love this course for the layout. However, if there is rain anytime during the week prior to your round, you will experience damp, wet fairways, and it will more than likely be "cart path only."
Pick other time of year
This course is probably beautiful in summer. Has nice layout proper challenge but even in spring and summer has too many dirt bald spots unless right in middle of fairway. This time of year is like hitting hard dirt even in the middle. Course was ok but could use some work. The greens however were pretty good considering its February fast and true. I am a bit handicapped so it would be nice if golf now told us cart paths only before we got to the course.
Great Staff
Very friendly staff and a good overall course for the price.
First Visit ... Average course
First visit to Lochmere. Had been cautioned over the years that this could be a very damp course. We had a week of dry weather, so the course was ok.
Could see from the layout that wet weather could be a real problem.
Also, the greens were "interesting" ... dark army green dormant bermuda ... never have seen that before. Pretty fast. Normal winter condition. Other than that, you sorta get what you pay for ... convenient to Cary but marginal course layout/condition.
Overrated and Slow
The company that owns this is so full of themselves. All of their courses are overpriced and overrated. None of them maintain an adequate flow. No idea how these courses stay in business. I have tried this course 3 times over 10 years and it sucked every time. Will never go back.
Really disappointing. Only played a few holes because pace of play was so horrible. They had a ranger out there, but he was mainly starting groups, not maintaining a proper pace. Though he was acting as a starter, a twosome snuck out in front of me while he was gone...at my tee time! When the starter finally arrived, I told him that they completely ignored me standing on the tee and just took off. He replied, "Oh, maybe it was the 12:08" Sir, it's 12:24, and that's my tee time...not my fault they were late, but it is now. Anyway, pace of play is always horrendous here, always.
Course conditions: plenty of bare and mushy spots, greens didn't look or roll stellar and a lot of pine needles all over them, tons of unfilled divots, tee boxes pretty hairy...and that's just in the few holes I played. I guess it is winter, but still worth mentioning.
All around unacceptable day.
Get out there
I know the temps are dropping but the course looks and plays great. Seems like their winter rates are in effect, so as long as it's dry, it's a great course to play. Offers a different layout than the other courses that would fall in the same category as Lochmere.
