Lochmere Golf Club
About
Located near the banks of Swift Creek, Lochmere Golf Club has plenty of water incorporated into the layout, coming into play on nearly every hole. The golf course stretches across a lush, gently rolling landscape sprinkled with mature trees and ponds. The terrain showcases the best in Triangle golf. At just over 6,600 yards it is not particularly long, but it provides plenty of challenges. It is a tight course that will test your accuracy with narrow fairways lined with trees. The small greens that are heavily protected by well placed bunkers demand thoughtful strategy and pinpoint control. The golf course offers a fair challenge but it is still accessible for beginners, especially from the forward tees. Lochmere G.C. is a favorite among Cary locals, both for its enjoyable design and its affordable rates.

Pick other time of year
This course is probably beautiful in summer. Has nice layout proper challenge but even in spring and summer has too many dirt bald spots unless right in middle of fairway. This time of year is like hitting hard dirt even in the middle. Course was ok but could use some work. The greens however were pretty good considering its February fast and true. I am a bit handicapped so it would be nice if golf now told us cart paths only before we got to the course.
Great Staff
Very friendly staff and a good overall course for the price.
First Visit ... Average course
First visit to Lochmere. Had been cautioned over the years that this could be a very damp course. We had a week of dry weather, so the course was ok.
Could see from the layout that wet weather could be a real problem.
Also, the greens were "interesting" ... dark army green dormant bermuda ... never have seen that before. Pretty fast. Normal winter condition. Other than that, you sorta get what you pay for ... convenient to Cary but marginal course layout/condition.
Overrated and Slow
The company that owns this is so full of themselves. All of their courses are overpriced and overrated. None of them maintain an adequate flow. No idea how these courses stay in business. I have tried this course 3 times over 10 years and it sucked every time. Will never go back.
Really disappointing. Only played a few holes because pace of play was so horrible. They had a ranger out there, but he was mainly starting groups, not maintaining a proper pace. Though he was acting as a starter, a twosome snuck out in front of me while he was gone...at my tee time! When the starter finally arrived, I told him that they completely ignored me standing on the tee and just took off. He replied, "Oh, maybe it was the 12:08" Sir, it's 12:24, and that's my tee time...not my fault they were late, but it is now. Anyway, pace of play is always horrendous here, always.
Course conditions: plenty of bare and mushy spots, greens didn't look or roll stellar and a lot of pine needles all over them, tons of unfilled divots, tee boxes pretty hairy...and that's just in the few holes I played. I guess it is winter, but still worth mentioning.
All around unacceptable day.
Get out there
I know the temps are dropping but the course looks and plays great. Seems like their winter rates are in effect, so as long as it's dry, it's a great course to play. Offers a different layout than the other courses that would fall in the same category as Lochmere.
Lochmere on Black Friday
Gorgeous day and I wanted to try out Lochmere with their new greens. Greens are much better. Conditions for rest of course were a little above average. Fairways pretty thin. Big issue was pace of play. Very slow. Foursome ahead of us we're all terrible and needed the five hrs to finish. Not sure what the rangers could do other then tell them to leave. I guess Black Friday brings out these types of golfers. I'll stay away next year.
Worth playing
Fun course pretty basic but worth playing only real issue I had and yes I know it's November but leaves were all over the fairway and basically the whole course . I wish they would have at least blown the fairway. With that said I'd still play it again
Very good
The course was in good shape although it was a little muddy in places. It would not be fun to play as a twosome, in that the course was pretty crowded.
Overall a nice course
Overall this was a nice course. Very impressed with the greens for this time of year. Fairways were in ok shape. Driving range was nice. Did not notice any drainage issues. Biggest complaint, due to our 9AM tee time, I could not see any of my shots on the driving range or the first couple of holes due to the sun being directly in your eyes. Partners had to really make an effort to track your shot. A little short from the whites.
Rude Starter
Lochmere is one of our regular courses to play in the area and we usually have a pleasant experience. However, we got a bad taste in our mouth due to one individual. They were 10 or 15 minutes behind, which we can understand. However, as one of us is addressing the ball on the first tee, the starter yells from behind "you guys need to hurry up and hit your shots, the other group is already on the green". Some of the guys in my group hit the ball a long way and we didn't want to hit into the group in front of us. The situation could have been handled differently if he felt like we were taking too long, even when we weren't. We then had a ranger follow us around for 3 or 4 holes, lurking behind us. I understand they were backed up and trying to speed up play, but he could have had a simple conversation instead of talking down and yelling at us while one of our guys is addressing the ball.
Other than the starter and the extremely slow play, we were happy with the experience.
NIce People , nice course
The course is nicely laid out , plays short , but the greens are great and have a lot of movement, a fun course.
Fun course
For a hurricane rolling through a week ago, putting a majority of the course under water, major cudos to the grounds crew at lochmere. I'd love pay to get another go when it's in perfect condition. I'm an 18 handicap, made the mistake of playing from the whites where it plays a little too short, but that was my fault, but it did make me feel like a big man off the tee. Very friendly staff, great course management. Very highly recommend this course and will be playing it again.
Course was too muddy
I enjoyed the layout and will return to play when not as wet. Driving and putting were good. Hitting second shots were difficult due to all the mud. Also, very difficult to find muddy ball due to all the debris. Probably should have been closed on Monday for cleanup and drying out
First time
This was my first time on the course. It was a last minute thing. Got there and went right out to the tee, no starter, was told there was a twosome, but I didn't see them until the back nine. Conditions where good considering the rain that has happened as of late. Pretty straightforward course, some water but doesn't come into play if you are aware of it. Greens in good shape, very few ball marks. Fairways in good shape. Rough is very thin in most places, so try to avoid to help losing balls. Only issue I had was maintainence crews started coming out on the back nine and seemed to be following me as I went, I understand they have a job to do. But it gets in your head that hey are there, watching you. So that was my only complaint, be it a small one. Round took 3 hours which was great. Recommend the course for a discounted price.
Fantastic greens
This course is a gem....easy to walk...
Challenging!
Loved this course! It was very challenging and the greens were near perfect. Only cost me $22.50 through GolfNow.com which I thought was an amazing deal. However, I didn't take into account it was Labor Day when I booked my tee time. I enjoy playing alone and thought a 5:30 tee time would give me time to play and allow the course to clear as well. Not the case, groups were backed up for 3 holes and I only made it to the 12th hole. Will definitely go back just not on a holiday!
lochmere
The course was over crowded at 4pm and no starter. We figured out times like adults and moved on. Pace of play was a little slow but there were walkers on the course.
The greens putted true and we're in great condition considering our weather this summer. The only better greens that I've played this month have been at Duke University.
A good layoutg
I found the course in good condition, fairways and greens.
Course was in very good shape
Lochmere fairways can sometimes get too wet from too much rain. Course was in very good shape. The greens were true for putting. The weather was beautiful, given our recent hot weather. It was a good day for golf at Lochmere
