Lochmere Golf Club
About
Located near the banks of Swift Creek, Lochmere Golf Club has plenty of water incorporated into the layout, coming into play on nearly every hole. The golf course stretches across a lush, gently rolling landscape sprinkled with mature trees and ponds. The terrain showcases the best in Triangle golf. At just over 6,600 yards it is not particularly long, but it provides plenty of challenges. It is a tight course that will test your accuracy with narrow fairways lined with trees. The small greens that are heavily protected by well placed bunkers demand thoughtful strategy and pinpoint control. The golf course offers a fair challenge but it is still accessible for beginners, especially from the forward tees. Lochmere G.C. is a favorite among Cary locals, both for its enjoyable design and its affordable rates.

greens top dressed & rest of course a mess
i was not aware before i arrived but they had punched the greens 3 days before and they were top dressed. this was very disappointing. i know that this, of course, is necessary to maintain the health of the greens but it would have been nice to know this before i booked the time. also, the rest of the course was a mess...seems they had had bad trouble with some heavy rains in the previous week so it was very swampy. even had a number of weird biting bugs start to attack me on the 16th fairway. hopefully the greens come back nice and the rest of the place dries up. but my experience was significantly less enjoyable then i would have imagined given all i mentioned above.
Nice Greens
Still a really nice course. All courses are looking great this year but I decided to write a review just for the greens. Greens looked excellent and rolled better. Well worth playing right now!
Great
Great course-especially for the money. Fun layout that is challenging but not impossibly hard. Always in excellent condition.
Fun, Covenient and a Geat Value
Great place to play and very convenient. staff is very friendly in all aspects. Rain washed us out after 15 holes but I will be back.
Great value
For the money this may be the best deal in the area. Greens and bunkers in excellent shape. Fairways almost. Course was a lot less wet after various rains than I expected. Will play again soon.
Bad Experience at Lochmere
Played Lochmere for the second time last Thursday and I must say, this facility leaves a lot to be desired. It is always very wet. The greens had been punched 2 days prior to playing (which they did warn me of before booking), however they failed to mention that they had also dumped sand all over the greens, presumably to even them out....imagine putting in the sand trap. At every green on the front 9, we were met with the same grounds keeper who was driving a tractor with a rake on the back, moving the sand around...he was polite enough to stop the tractor when we were hitting the ball, but was still on the green with us and fired the tractor back up before we could put the flag back into the cup.
We were able to turn the 9 in approximately 2 hours, even combining our twosome with a single behind us on hole 8. We got to the 10 teebox and had to wait about 5 minutes for the group in front of us, before teeing off. Fast forward to the #13, and after teeing off, we are confronted by the course manager, stating that we were playing too slow and that we would need to pick up our balls and move onto the next hole! Politely letting him know this was uncalled for and that we were going to finish the hole, it was quickly recognized that a member was playing in a threesome behind us and did not want to wait for us to finish the hole before teeing off. We were then asked to allow them to play through, which we also declined as we would have just been waiting for them on the next teebox. Ultimately we finished our round in 4 hours and never saw the group behind us again.
In conversation with the course manager after our round, he stated that each member is given a survey at the end of the round, and if one of them call into the clubhouse to complain, he always comes out and asks the non-member to give up position on the course. Very unprofessional if you ask me, and I will not be back out to Lochmere!
Good pars bad grounds
The place is old and showing it , I haven't played there in a few years and I think for the price they should have better cart paths and less sand on the green or airitation piles left on numerous holes. Lots of groundskeeper work going on while golfing at 10 am on the hole we would be on. Had to wait in line at the grill for a drink only and almost lost our spot on the next hole.
Friday play
Great pace of play. Greens bumpy due to aeration.
Outstanding greens
Course is in great shape but the Bermuda greens are fantastic. Rolling as well as any private club around the triangle I've played.
Great Greens
Fairways are what to be expected from a public course, but I found the greens to be in amazing shape. Fast and true with little divots. Very impressed.
Excellent option for local play
I live in Cary, NC and this course is in Cary as well. The terrain is basically flat with a few doglegs. The back nine has a better feel than the front. What really caught me off guard is the scorecard in no way reflects the information I kept finding online about the yardage for the various tees - whoever maintains this information needs to take a look at the scorecard and update accordingly...online, back-tees - just over 6000 yards; scorecard, back tees, over 6900 yards. Knowing what I know now, I will return for easier play - good value for the money.
Very good greens!!
Course is in very good condition and should only get better!
Great Local Course With Great Greens
Lochmere is a great local course with great greens that roll true.
Great course, must be monitored
When I tee'd off i had a two groups of two infront of me. I got hole #5 and suddenly there was two groups of 4 in front of me.
Needless to say I was agitated at this point and so I said something to the group in front of me and there response was we do this all the TIME.
I told them I am playing through them and they were fine with that.
This is not the 1st time this has happened, I ended my round and spoke with some other golfers and the say this happens all the TIME.
If this is such a common occurrence sime one needs to put measures in place to prevent this.
Too wet
Even though no rain lately fairway was too wet. Green was ok.
Open Christmas Day
With Raleigh, North Carolina having an extremely warm winter; we really appreciated the golf course being open Christmas day. Due to hard rains the past two days, the fairways were a little wet, but the greens were in excellent condition. They gave us an additional discount to make up for any inconvenience. We really enjoyed our round of golf!
Less than average experience.
I have played this course a couple times now. I thought the first one was a fluke and maybe give it a second chance. If here has been any rain this course does not drain a bit. All though it is fall, there was no way to get a true top on a green. They were covered with leaves and pine needles. Even balls in the fairway are often not able to be found.
For the price to play I would not recommend.
Course was like a swamp
I knew cart path only would slow things down but it took almost 2 hours to play first 6 holes. After 3 days of sunshine I thought course would be more playable.
Couse was so wet balls would land in the mud and leaves would make them impossible to find.
Biggest issue was walking to your ball even in fairways and stepping into sinkholes where your shoes, would submerge into the mud.
Greens were fine but that was the best part of the round.
They have to put rangers on the course
Fourth or fifth time my wife and I have played here. Also the last time. We understand that twosomes and threesomes move faster than foursomes, but every time we've played, there seems to be one foursome jacking up the whole course - and never is there a ranger to do anything about it. Several employees in carts drove around the course, but none were focused on the golfers or fact that the course was stacked up. At one point today, there were four groups on one hole.
Course is decent in terms of challenge - you do get to use many clubs and you are forced to shape some shots - fairways are average-to-good considering the weather this year - greens are very good.
Too many other choices in the area in this price range and quality to put up with pace of play that is debilitating.

Very good course in good condition. Good layout. A fair test; would definitely play again.
