Solid Course
Really fun layout, not overly challenging but lots of fun. Fairways and rough were in excellent shape, greens had been aerated and were very slow and sandy but would probably be great otherwise. For $25 on weekday afternoons this course cant be beat.
Good course
This is a good course but they had aerated the greens and they were very slow and inconsistent. Course is very fair with no "gimmick" holes.
Would certain like to play again once the greens are back.
Excellent play
Very good conditions after air ration. Very enjoyable!
No Aeration warning on GolfNow
Biggest complaint is that they aerated the day before we played and there was no (and still is none on Golfnow) mention when I booked the round. Now, they did a great job of sanding and aerating, so it wasn't the worst, but some kind of warning needs to be put on Golfnow. I know several other courses that do it.
On to the actual course, it's a great design. Sloping fairways, elevated tee boxes, mostly tight fairways and a good amount of OB. Several very unique holes, especially on the back 9. A nice stretch of 4 holes around 2 ponds on holes 5-8.
It's a short course, so they compensate by making the greens really small. They are wide, but most are no more than 10 yards deep. It was hard to read the slope of the greens with the aeration, but they don't appear to be very difficult. I was told by a member that the speed is good and fair normally.
I'll definitely be back in a month when the greens recover, but I was just disappointed by the lack of GolfNow warning. Fix that and it's a 5* experience.
Very Nice Course
Greens were in very good condition. Some tee boxes thin but overall very good. Fairways were in very good shape. Bunkers were ok. Not much sand in some of the bunkers. Overall the course was in very good condition and would recommend. Really like layout.
Staff not that great
Went to play on a Thursday and every possible tee time on Golf Now is open. Informed there was no availability, due to their precious 65+ senior day tournament. Moved to the area in search of a new club to call home. And I can say Salem Glen will not be it.
Greens are in great shape!
First time playing out here and really enjoyed the layout and greens. Front nine is very different from the front which keeps the round fun and exciting! Greens were in excellent shape and course was relatively dry even with all of the rain.
I’ll be back out here soon!
Nice Nicklaus Layout
Booked Hot Deal thru GolfNow for a Sunday morning. Great value for a nice layout. A little wet from rain the night before but course conditions were pretty firm with only a few soft spots. Friendly staff. We will return next time we travel thru the area.
Love the layout
Really nice routing. Pace of play was a little too slow, but I believe it was due to a group that ignored the proper etiquette to let faster groups play through which backed up the whole course.
Great Course.
Great course, has a great layout with two very distinct types of courses on the front nine and the back nine. Very good bang for your buck.
Worth the drive
Played Salem Glen for the first time two days ago, and drove back there to play again. It is a great layout, and the course is well maintained. The only major issue were the sand traps. After a week of rain, they still hadn’t drained even with four days of dry weather. They were full of water. And other than some soggy areas around the course, the overall conditions were great. Very reception bentgrass greens. Clubhouse is very nice. Practice facility is excellent as well. Would definitely return.
Good play but slightly disappointed
Course was extremely wet, probably due to soaking rains as well as tropical depressions from hurricanes...amenities were lacking! Still a great layout and challenging golf course...just didn't seem as good as last time I played there.
Nice surprise
Played late on a Monday afternoon. Course was relatively empty. Greens had their fall maintenance recently, however, kudos to the greens superintendent - they were very nice greens and sneaky fast. Staff was very helpful and responsive.
Good Value
Because of the recent Hurricane, I called the course to check on the overall conditions and was told everything was in great shape. While tees and fairways were certainly in good condition as usual, from the very first hole the greens left a lot to be desired. Bare spots, very bumpy, and holes that had not yet filled in from being punched several weeks ago. I had been told on the phone that the greens had healed up very nicely. Despite the condition of the greens, Salem glen is still a fun place to play and a good value.
Great course layout - Disappointing Condition of Greens
This was my first time playing Salem Glen country club. I was looking forward to playing this Jack Nicklaus designed course. I had heard good things about the course.
The fairways and rough were in great condition. The fairways were smooth and nicely cut. The course is fun and challenging lots of elevation changes (both uphill and downhill holes). The greens are quite small which puts a premium on accuracy with your irons. The rough is thick and lush so if you are off the fairway, it makes it a challenge to get on the green in regulation.
However, the greens were a big let down for me. I thought the greens were in bad condition. The greens are bent grass and are hence they are soft due to the fact they have to be kept moist and hydrated during the hot summer months.
I was disappointed with how chewed and and blemished the greens. There were blemish marks all over the greens. The greens were shaggy (had not been cut in a couple days) and quite slow. It is obvious that the people that play here on a regular basis don’t fix their ball marks because of the many non-repaired ball marks and marks and blemishes all over the greens.
Other than the poor condition of the greens, it is . a great course with some beautiful designed holes (#11 is beautiful from the tee box). If I am in the area again, I will definitely play again and hope the condition of the greens is much better.
Great course
Great course ,great club house can’t wait to go back again
