Worth the drive
Played Salem Glen for the first time two days ago, and drove back there to play again. It is a great layout, and the course is well maintained. The only major issue were the sand traps. After a week of rain, they still hadn’t drained even with four days of dry weather. They were full of water. And other than some soggy areas around the course, the overall conditions were great. Very reception bentgrass greens. Clubhouse is very nice. Practice facility is excellent as well. Would definitely return.
Good play but slightly disappointed
Course was extremely wet, probably due to soaking rains as well as tropical depressions from hurricanes...amenities were lacking! Still a great layout and challenging golf course...just didn't seem as good as last time I played there.
Nice surprise
Played late on a Monday afternoon. Course was relatively empty. Greens had their fall maintenance recently, however, kudos to the greens superintendent - they were very nice greens and sneaky fast. Staff was very helpful and responsive.
Good Value
Because of the recent Hurricane, I called the course to check on the overall conditions and was told everything was in great shape. While tees and fairways were certainly in good condition as usual, from the very first hole the greens left a lot to be desired. Bare spots, very bumpy, and holes that had not yet filled in from being punched several weeks ago. I had been told on the phone that the greens had healed up very nicely. Despite the condition of the greens, Salem glen is still a fun place to play and a good value.
Great course layout - Disappointing Condition of Greens
This was my first time playing Salem Glen country club. I was looking forward to playing this Jack Nicklaus designed course. I had heard good things about the course.
The fairways and rough were in great condition. The fairways were smooth and nicely cut. The course is fun and challenging lots of elevation changes (both uphill and downhill holes). The greens are quite small which puts a premium on accuracy with your irons. The rough is thick and lush so if you are off the fairway, it makes it a challenge to get on the green in regulation.
However, the greens were a big let down for me. I thought the greens were in bad condition. The greens are bent grass and are hence they are soft due to the fact they have to be kept moist and hydrated during the hot summer months.
I was disappointed with how chewed and and blemished the greens. There were blemish marks all over the greens. The greens were shaggy (had not been cut in a couple days) and quite slow. It is obvious that the people that play here on a regular basis don’t fix their ball marks because of the many non-repaired ball marks and marks and blemishes all over the greens.
Other than the poor condition of the greens, it is . a great course with some beautiful designed holes (#11 is beautiful from the tee box). If I am in the area again, I will definitely play again and hope the condition of the greens is much better.
Great course
Great course ,great club house can’t wait to go back again
Cost
The course was in great shape. My only issue was we booked tee time on GOLF NOW and it was a “Hot Deal” which was only $22 per player for 18 holes, we decided to play 9 more holes but they wanted to charge us $20 for a replay of 9 holes. They wouldn’t even discuss the price with me. The guy made comment it was $20 for another 9 or 18. It made no difference how much more we played. We didn’t play any more!!
very good course
Greens Bent 4.0
fairways, good enough to play ball down 4.25
bunkers overall good condition 4.0
design/uniqueness of holes 3.75
clubhouse 5
overall 4.25
Great Shape
The fairways were really nice. No winter kill, the greens weee in good shape for mid July, no burned spots, one of the best shape courses in the area right now.
Greens need fixed
Fairways were perfect and roughs were perfectly cut. It made it a fun and challenging course. However the front nine greens were horrible. And the back nine wasn’t much better. They are so soft if u make the wrong move ur spikes can mess up the green. And it’s very clear that the people that play here don’t know what a divot fixer is. But besides the greens. It’s a great course. Will play again
Chase, thank you for the comments on our golf course. Unfortunately, with the heat this Summer and bentgrass greens this is what we battle. We water our greens on a regular basis to keep them cooler. This yields softer conditions and I do agree we could do a better job of ball marks as we constantly preach this to all customers.
Salem Glen is worth the trip
We had a great round at Salem Glen. While it was very hot, the course is in great shape. The course is a good test of golf. My wife appreciated the reasonable placement of the ladies tees.
Non member playing a nice layout.
The practice putting green was in good condition and the ball rolled great, but the greens are not in as good of condition. There is this tool that is sold at golf shops called a divot repair tool. They should invest in these and teach players how to use them. Other than that the ball rolled pretty true on the greens. We had an 11:10 tee time. There was no starter. Two “members” groups of three I believe got in front of us and they were playing some sort of little tournament. The pro even carted one to the first tee who missed his ride. At no time did anyone ask about tee times. This delayed our start time about 20 minutes. I guess we got the non-member treatment. Yeah, it was hot and a little frustrating , but we did get a $20/player round from GN, so it’s kind of hard to complain. The cart girl did make plenty of rounds if you needed refreshments which was nice. All of the water coolers had ice cold water as well.
Thank you for coming out to play at Salem Glen. I appreciate you letting us know about your tee time delay. We like to treat all players as Members when you are here. What day did you play?
Course in great condition
Have not played in six months. Condition unbelievable as compared to other nearby semi private courses..Great to see green grass and no mud..
Pace of play was good for first 4 holes then slowed to snail's pace. A twosome of young guys 2 groups ahead of us ended up making our round last over 5 hours. At one point we could see at least 3 open holes in front of them. Not the first time this has happened here. This course needs a marshall to keep play moving. I'm sure they can afford it since the greens fees keeps going up.
Great value
I’ve played at the beach this year numerous times for $50-75 a round and played on awful greens. I got this on a “hot deal” $18 to ride 18. Excellent fairways and greens. Best course in the area this year. Will go back.
Great Value Fun Course
My sons actually told me about Salem Glen and I really enjoy playing there. I work a different schedule and Monday is usually the best day for me to play and this course works out perfectly for me and my sons. The staff is awesome and they really feel welcome. I like the fact that you can hit driver and irons off the tees and usually be left with short irons into the greens. The times I’ve played there the greens were in good shape and if you find the pace of the greens you’ll have lots of chances for par and maybe a birdie or 2.
Enjoyable
Course is in great shape and the greens are putting true.
Thank you for the feedback. We do have a contract with Golfnow that allows them to have a Hot Deal once per day at our golf course. Our Normal rates are $37 M-Th, $40 - Friday's, $48 on weekends. We do offer a rate of $15 for 9 Holes during the week for replay or $20 for $18. On the weekends we only offer a $20 rate for a replay. We hope you come back and join us soon. I would be glad to discuss further if you like.
