Pleasantly surprised
From past reviews wasn't sure what to expect but found the course to be in excellent condition. The number of holes where water comes into play is more like 4 or five but I managed to go in the water 3 times in part because of first time playing the course. The description of play on their website is very accurate. Enjoyed my round and would definitely play there again.
Great course for your money
Course superintendent has done a remarkable job getting course in the shape it is in now from a couple of winter freezes. Play there almost every week. Staff is excellent from Holly and Jeff to Chuck, Dick and Roger. Only negative thing that I can say is pace of play is sometimes a little slow, but that has seemed to have gotten better. Would highly recommend this course.
Water, water everywhere
Prior to our round the area had lots of rain which created lots of "casual water" areas on the course. Fairways were tight, greens rolled true and were in good shape. Lots of water hazards which come in to play on 15 of the 18 holes.
very nice course
We could not get a bad lie in the fairways. The greens were a good speed for most golfers and receptive. Would recommend this course to golfers of any skill level. Also located right near Asheville, NC.
Course was fine
Fairways are just dirt greens are fine but fairways are rough would rather be in the rough honestly
Worst Course in Area
This course was in terrible condition. Many fairways did not have any grass. We had to move to the rough to have grass to hit off of. Traps were not serviced at all. I will never play this course again. It should be shut down, if not improved.
Thanks for playing Broadmoor, we're sorry you had such a bad experience. The fairways are thin at the moment but this is strictly because we get a lot of cold temperatures at night thanks to the French Broad River. We should bounce back with a little sunshine. The Bermuda will grow fast once it warms up a bit and the course will greatly improve.
Alot of water!
I knew before I went that this course had alot of water so wasn't surprised. Just gotta control ball more. Would be helpful if something was available that was more informative as to yardages to water hazards but when is that not typically the case at most courses that have alot of water. The local farmers must have recently applied manure to the local fields. Stinky! Even thought we smelled something dead. Uck! Overall a good course thst was challenging but not too bad. Will go back for sure.
Splash
Being a single was easily matched up with locals by friendly starter. Played in just over 4 hours for 18. Yeah for that! Course has range, practice area for chipping. Practice green speed and course greens rolled similar. Understanding driving direction and distance control on several holes was especially appreciated by playing with locals. All par 3s had length and character. Greens in good shape and rolled true for winter conditions. Fairways were a bit disappointing based on look. They were spotted with a tufted crabgrass. Maybe spring treatment will give them a consistent look. But must say price was fair for the round. Front side more challenging than back but second nine has more character. The closing par 5 hole is a gem. You have to go for it! I nutted it, but water ~~~~~ comes into play. Splash, dang golf gods.....
This course needs an official to monitor pace of play
Fairways were not in good shape. I preferred the rough which had more grass. I started 11:20 and ended 5 pm. Every shot was a wait. Could not get any rhythm, my game went to pot except around the greens and putting where you did not have to wait. My driver which is normally decent was horrible due to getting stiff from waiting so long. My score was 94 which was having a birdie on one hole due to a chip-in on one hole #2, 10 pars due to good chips and one putts. The other 7 holes were topped drives, missed fairway woods and iron shots missing the greens due to the lengthy time between shots.
Nice course that is nearby.
I enjoy playing this course most of the time. The play can be slow if it is a nice day after several days of bad weather. On those days with a full booking of play there should be a ranger to make sure no holes are open and play is not at a 5 hour pace.
Nice course that is nearby.
This course has difficulty in keeping grass on the fairways. This year seems better than last year, so hopefully it will be a great year to play golf here.
Nice course that is nearby.
The staff is great. Over the years I've been able to get to know several staff members. The course was in great shape, but can get problems when it rains a lot. The course has a number of water hazards that makes you play smart to score well. It is a course to play if you have time to wait on slow players.
Good greens
Thanks s about it. Grass is trying to grow in fairways. No bunkers (not that you want to play them) but for visual effects. Mostly flat. Naturally hilly lay of the land not used in design. Narrow landing areas. Just not a good design
Great course for the money.
Course has a lot of character and is a great layout. Greens are healing nicely from the fall maintenance and will be outstanding in a week or so. Fairways had some rough patches but you get that with Bermuda grass this time of year.
Rainy
Enjoyed the round but very wet and rainy. The course drained well as there was not a lot of standing water given the amount of rain that we had encountered over the last week.
Broadmoor is back
My son and I played Saturday afternoon. And I will say that broadmoor has done a great job bringing the course back from near ruin. The winter kill they experienced killed off more than a few of their fairways but now you would never know it. Good Job.
Mark,
Thank you so much for your email. It is great to hear that the course is back in better shape. We had a rough winter but the staff out there really worked hard to fix those fairway issues.
We appreciate your business and hope to see you again soon.

Well worth the price!
I really liked this challenging course. The greens were very accepting and they rolled true and fairly fast. The fairways had some bare spots but they are working to repair these spots. The clubhouse was very nice. This course is a gem.
Thank you for playing at Broadmoor. We appreciate the great review and hope to see you again sometime soon. I see that you are from Jacksonville. If you are ever in St. Augustine, try out Royal St. Augustine, it is another one of our tracks.

Pleasantly surprised
This was my first time playing Broadmoor this year. After hearing and reading all the horrible reviews I was hesitant to play there. However I heard things had improved so I decided to give it a try. All I can say is it must have improved a lot or there where a lot of unjust reviews. In my opinion its one of the best conditioned courses I've played in the area this year. Definitely the best greens and overall the fairways where good. You can see where they lost them in places but those areas are mostly grown back in. I will be playing there several more times this year after what I saw today.
Thanks for playing at Broadmoor and posting your comments. I am very happy to hear that you found the course in good condition. We had some serious struggles out there this year because of winter kill but it appears that the golf course is now back into playable condition. I have seen video, still photos, and feedback from management that show the huge improvement.
We are glad that you enjoyed your round and are looking forward to seeing you again sometime soon.

Supprised
I have lived here going on 6 years but never played the course. From the two holes seen from the interstate I gathered the wrong impression. I was very wrong.
The greens are as good as or better than most courses in the area. If not for the "drought" the tees and fairways would not have any problems. Actually, very little problems exist. The layout is fairly simple but the hazards must be carefully managed. Some very pretty holes! Beautiful clubhouse and the employees are extremely welcoming and pleasant and efficient. Since it is close by this may become my "home" course.
Jim,
Thanks for the kind comments. We are glad that you enjoyed your round at Broadmoor. We have always felt that the overall experience at Broadmoor was very good. We have a lot of regulars who really enjoy the course and we hope you will become one of them. I would suggest picking up our Carolina Players Card, which will give you discounted rates at Broadmoor and Reems Creek in Weaverville along with a few other courses we own. Ask for Hart or Jeff in the pro shop next time you are there and say hello.
Thanks again, we hope to see you soon.

Improving
I played here at the first of June and the winterkill, like many courses in the area, was terrible. It is obvious that the green keepers have been working very hard. I will not be waiting two months to go back again.
Vincedaddy,
Thank you so much for your review. We really appreciate the photos that you posted because they do show how far the course has come. The crew at Broadmoor has worked really hard to get the Bermuda going and it is nice of you to recognize that. Hopefully we will see you again sometime soon and the course will be even better.
