Never seen a course in such bad condition
Let me preface this review by stating the course layout is really good and challenging. With that said, the fairways are horrendous. Mostly dirt with small patches of grass . The greens were in good shape and the clubhouse is nice. I'm not the type who expects pristine conditions at every course I play. I play many municipal courses and they aren't always in great condition, but at least the fairways have grass . It is a shame because the course has potential to be really nice.
Disappointed
I have played Broadmoor many times over the years, but this year the fairways (if you can call them that) are the worst that I have ever seen.
Broadmoor in Asheville has great greens, but the fairways are in
terrible condition. It is the ONLY course in this area that I have
played that is in that condition. They blame it on Winter kill, but
none of the other courses in the area seem to have suffered
(or maybe they actually put some work in) and it would seem
that the greens would have suffered too.
Just Not Worth the Money
Golf course is in terrible condition. Rough is so high spent excessive time looking for golfballs that were hit only steps out of the fairway. HOWEVER, WE FOUND MORE THAN LOST SO OTHER ARE HAVING THIS SAME ISSUE.
Balls were lost when hit in the fairway also - Maintenance needs to concentrate on mowing ALL AREA OF COURSE!
WINTER KILL IN NUMEROUS AREAS!
Tees were in need of mowing - some ankle high.
Sand Traps were garbage. Not maintained or raked!
Only decent item were the GREENS! People do need to be alerted about repairing ball marks.
REALLY NOT WORTH THE $66.00 WE PAID IN GREEN FEES!
Waste of Time and Money
Well - you asked, so here goes…
If the next round was given free, I would not go back to this donkey track.
This course should be pulled from GolfNow lineup until it can be brought back to acceptable standards.
When you hit every fairway from the tee and either can't find the ball in US Open length rough in the middle of the fairway, or have to move every shot to find anything that remotely resembles fairway grass on other holes - you might as well play in a field somewhere.
Worst experience in 40 years of golfing… will not go back and advise other GolfNow patrons to read future reviews carefully before selecting this course.
This experience will necessitate closely researching other golf courses offered by GolfNow - would have expected more from you guys based on previous experiences...
Great value for the money
Fairways are terrible. Everything else is excellent
Don't waste your money
The course is in absolutely horrid condition with the exception of the greens. The fairways are nothing but mud and a few weeds. There are plenty of other options. Don't waste your time or money.
Thanks for playing Broadmoor and leaving your comments. We went through a difficult winter this year and our Bermuda fairways suffered from winterkill. We have spent a lot of money and time spreading Bermuda seed and fertilizer to get the fairways back in shape. Several of the holes should be almost grown in and I would expect the others to come back soon. We are sorry you had to experience Broadmoor in this way, we hope you will give us another try later in the summer.
Local course
The fairways were in bad shape. I hope they can get them back. The greens and staff were great!
Amado,
Thanks for giving us 4 stars despite the fairways. Cold temperatures this winter really affected our Bermuda faiways. We have been re-seeding and have seen a lot of progress in the last week or two. The seed is germinating and grass should grow quickly if the weather cooperates. Try our sister course Reems Creek, its in great shape.
Poor condition
I played this course in June. The greens were great. The fairways, especially on the front nine, were horrible. Almost no grass on the fairways in many places on the front nine. Not sure the front nine should even be open. There were no marshals on the course to move slow groups along, so our round (a twosome) took almost five hours to play. This was disappointing. I have played this case for almost fifteen years and have never seen the course in such bad shape.
MIke, thanks for being a customer for so long and also for posting your comments here. As you mentioned, the winter was hard on the course and we experienced a lot of winter kill in the Bermuda fairways. We have been re-seeding for the last few weeks and are hoping mother nature will help us get back up to par in the next few weeks. Please give us another try at the end of the summer. I would recommend playing our sister course in Weaverville, Reems Creek. It is in fantastic condition right now. Send me an email at info@broadmoorlinks.com and I will give you a special rate for Reems if you would like to play there. Ryan S, Warrior Golf Management
winter kill
This course has suffered greatly from winter kill. The surprising part is that they are stil charging $28 for a course with no fairways. Other courses in the area have recovered but not this one.
We are sorry about what has happened at Broadmoor. The winter kill has taken a toll on our fairways. We have recently invested in seed and extra fertilizer to grow some new grass and get the course back into shape. We have seen progress and expect the course to be greatly improved in 4-6 more weeks. -RyanS, Warrior Golf
Winter killed
Fairways are awful due to winter kill of Bermuda grass. The greens are very good but could be faster. Needs time to recoup.
Terrible
The course was a absolute train wreck , tee boxes were horrible in understand what's going on with fairways, they are horrible
Also . But there is no reason to have tee boxes like that. . The hole course was terrible . Will not go back. Would not pay to play this course
Thank you for the message. The course went through a tough winter and we are working to fix the issues in the fairways and on the tees. We have recently purchased a large amount of seed that will hopefully turn the course around in the next 4-8 weeks. We hope you will give us another chance in the summer.

Bad Winter
Been playing Broadmoor for years. The sand traps have always been marginal but the T boxes, fairways, and greens especially have been very good. The rough is very tough at times. A shot a little off the fairway can be extremely punishing for the average player. They had a rough winter here and the T boxes and fairways have suffered. They are working hard to remedy the situation. Still love the course. Playing tomorrow and will deal with the winter kill. Greens were very good when I played. For those that haven't played here before, give them a little time and you will be pleased.
Winter Kill hurts Tees and Fairways
Tee Boxes and Fairways are in horrible shape due to winter kill. I think all the courses in WNC are having similar problems. The greens are fantastic! In previous years, their fairways were among the best in WNC. May have to wait til later in the summer for the fairways to come back. They are in the process of reseeding.

the course needs help.
The course is in very poor condition. The fairways and tee boxes don't have any grass. The greens were in good shape. Don't play here for a couple of months..until they get it up to par...
Great layout but poor fairways
The fairways are in very bad shape. Grass is mostly dead. Hopefully they are working on fixing them.

Thanks for playing Broadmoor and posting a comment. We had a rough winter when it comes to weather and our Bermuda fairways did not come out of dormancy when the temperature warmed up. We have decided to invest in a large amount of seed, which should help grow in some new turf. If everything goes as planned, conditions should improve in 4-6 weeks. Until then, play Reems Creek in Weaverville. It is in excellent shape right now.

Fairways in bad shape
The fairway grass is brown almost completely thru out. Most of the tees were in bad condition. The greens were very nice.
I have played the course many times and hope that the course can be brought back to decent condition.
Right now, I would find another place to play.
Thank you for playing Broadmoor and for posting a comment. I wanted to let you know that we are aware of the current fairway conditions. The cold and wet weather this winter has made life difficult on our Bermuda fairways and we are expecting them to improve dramatically once the weather warms up for an extended period. The next week or two should determine whether other steps need to be taken to bring the fairways back into prime condition. -Ryan Saturday, Warrior Golf
Lousy conditions
The fairways and tee boxes were awful. Grass was dead and weedy
The golf course as a whole is poor or about under winter conditions. And the pace is slow with cart path only restrictions. The greens are very nice. The course should have winter rates for ground under repair conditions.

Grass dead
The fairways were dead. You could lose your ball on the fairway in the drainage holes. Greens were slow and choppy

Wow this course needs to be closed till it gets better
no drainage, no grass on the fairways, probably the worst course conditions I have ever played. Only thing the greens are good.

Quirky Links Course
I play here a lot. It is a unique layout which requires shots from every club in your bag. Several sharp dog legs and hazard placements force you to place tee shots to a certain distances rather than bomb driver off of every tee box. The only Par 5 that is legitimately reachable in 2 is #18. The others all have hazards that eat up drives on all but the luckiest shots. After learning to play to the fat part of the fairways, you can score pretty well here. The course is usually in pretty good shape.

Doug,
Thank you for playing and leaving your comments. I have been monitoring the issues with the fairways and wanted to explain. The problems were indeed from winter kill, which affects the Bermuda turfgrass. You are correct that many courses were hit with the same problem thanks to an extra cold and wet winter. For whatever reason, we seem to have been affected worse than other courses. The greens are Bentgrass, which is more tolerant to the cold temperatures.
We have been aggressively trying to fix this problem. We have sliced the fairways and spread seed and fertilizer to grow the fairways back in. Unfortunately, this takes time and the fairways are still growing in. We have seen progress and I think the course will be back to normal by the end of the season. We hope you will give us a try when it does.
