The Lakes Course at Red Hawk
About
The Lakes Course at the Resort at Red Hawk is a Robert Trent Jones masterpiece that has helped vault Reno and the High Sierra into the upper echelon of West Coast golf destinations. Named the best daily fee golf experience by readers of the Reno-Gazette Journal, the Hills Course is a challenge not to be missed.
Playing to more than 7,100 yards from the tips, the Lakes Course is a haven for big hitters who love dangerous risk-reward opportunities, as well as for players who thrive on accuracy in their golf game. More than 100 bunkers challenge golfers, as do a plethora of trees and water hazards that both add to the aesthetics of the course, and the difficulty.
Along with its sister, the Hills Course, the Lakes Course has helped the Resort at Red Hawk become synonymous with stellar golf action and excellent service.

Red Hawk Lakes
The fairways were in good shape. The greens were bumpy and uneven. The bunkers were in terrible shape. Apparently they don't rake them or keep them up at all. Very disappointing
Good challenging public course. Greens were fast one long par 5. A couple of difficult par 3s. Layout can be a bit tricky. Exactly what you want for the money! Will be back!
Hill's course
I was told it was wide open, we were a 3some, behind a 4some and they played TV Golf the whole round. It was slow for sure and the marshal did nothing. the Hills course is the best maintained of the two.
Solid choice in Reno / Sparks
A fine little course where everything is just right out in front of you. Not much trouble to get into, but somewhat of a target golf course from the white tees. The conditions were really good, the greens rolled true and fast, and overall a great outing and a fun place to play.
Over priced
The old man starter is miserable. Never friendly. No one will tell you about any type of course conditions. Greens had recently been punched. Would have been nice to know. Absurdly overpriced course for what you get. I am excited for when they tear it down and build houses on the course
Overpriced Mediocrity
The fact that this course charges well over $100 (almost $200!in peak season) is laughable. The conditions reflect a $60 course and that is being very generous. The bunkers are basically concrete with rocks and weeds. The starter is miserable and would be better suited working at the DMV. To any out of towners, take this advice from a local that plays multiple times a week: spend your money on another course. Lakeridge is less money and in 10x better shape. Even the munis like Washoe and Sierra Sage are in better shape, not to mention their staffs are much friendlier. Right now you can literally play Grizzly Ranch for the same price, which is a premium nationally ranked course
Fun time right
I played Hills a couple of weeks ago and wanted to give Lakes a try. It was a fun course. Like Hills, you could hit your driver on almost every par 4 and par 5. I hit my driver a lot better on the Hills course then I did on the Lakes course...but that's another story. A lot of dogleg right holes on Lakes but you need to carry water or hit it straight to get to fairway. Conditions around the greens were not the best and the bunkers were not in the best shape. Greens are large and for the most part easy to read. Both courses get expensive and IMO are not worth the full rake rate, if you get a GolfNow deal or some other deal these are good tracks to play. Prostaff, starter, marshall and cart guys are professional.
Great Afternoon Outting.
The starter was a grumpy old bugger, when I approached and asked how it was going he responded “busy” as if I was bothering him. The young lady on the beverage cart on the other hand was exceptionally gracious and even requested to stay late to make sure she was able to offer us another round on the back nine. Overall it was a nice day and I’ll likely be back.
Always a nice place to play
I will start by saying this is always a nice place to play, maintenance is always good and staff are friendly. That being said, it is about $20 over similar courses to play here so we don't play here as much as other courses. Also the gps on the carts are quite annoying as you have to constantly mess with the screen because there are constant warnings or ads on the screen so you cannot seen the course you are playing unless you clear the ads or pop ups. Other than that it is a great place to golf.
Suprise! massive shotgun start!
When we arrived, there was a men's league tournament, and a massive shot gun start that was NOT mentioned when I booked! Had I known that I would have selected a different tee time. It was backed up, people hitting into us, one group just drove by and played in front of us, causing an even bigger back up! Super frustrating! We also were shuttled from the parking area to the driving range. We couldn't bring our own cart- thus leaving our bags behind. Lame.
This course has an abundance of wster
A bunch of water , many wetlands . Lost a lot of balls . It is a fun course . We got a good deal .
Red Hawk lake course
Played in the afternoon and the pace of play was slow. Almost did not finish the round due to other groups of players cutting in front of my foursome as the sun started to set. Did not see a marshal after 5pm on the course to help regulate the pace of play causing several minutes of delay on the last five holes.
Poor facility design
The 1st tee and Pro Shop are located about 1/4 mile from cart pickup. Conversely the 18th hole ends the same 1/4 mile from the Pro Shop & 1st tee.
Redhawk Lakes Course
Fantastic course, greens were in exceedingly excellent condition and overall had a great time!
