While not in great shape, the price was correct

This can be a very good course- but tees, greens and some fairways were not great. That being said, the price was completely fair at $75. Just temper expectations when playing right now.

Great course to play when visiting Hilton Head

The course was in great shape! Pace of play was a little slow on the front nine but increased on the back nine. The staff was extremely friendly and knowledgeable. The prices for food and beverage were great. I would highly recommend this course if you come and visit Hilton Head..

Pace of play

If you like 5 and a half hour rounds, this is the course for you. It would really help if course had a few rangers on it speeding up play. Some people just need to be told and they pick up their pace. They made sure they had 2 workers when you were done to clean your clubs. Also our carts had ball and club cleaners on them, but they didn't have any water in them.

JFK

Normally I would have no problem giving a 5 star rating, however with the entire course having just been aerated and CPO at 90+ degrees it was very slow and exhausting. So 4 stars is the best I can do.

Pace of play and a few conditions issues

We had a group of three with a foursome in front of us and the first three holes took us an hour. After two calls to the clubhouse they came out and pushed them along. Some of the greens had quite a bit of access grass on them from being mowed. They hadn't blown them off or removed the grass clippings. The course layout was good. Just needs a little attention to details for pace of play and a few maintenance issues.

My favorite (so far) in HHI

Caught it the day before they began aeration (6/16/26). I would wait until July to play again BUT this is one of the best and challenging courses I've played in a while. It's in great shape too. The greens are fair and true.

First and Probably Last Time

We played an afternoon round at the Bear 1:20 pm tee time. Just my wife and I. Cart sign states time limit of 4 hours and 20 minutes strictly enforced. Starter indicated we would be following the two threesomes up at the tee. What he didn't tell us was these two threesomes would join to make a 6 some on the back 9 when not in view. The two groups of three were playing a scramble but it was still 6 shots every time. I even called the pro shop when we reached thirteen tee box and it was apparent they planned to continue. Spoke with Steve who said it was not there policy and they would TRY and send someone out. NO ONE CAME. When the groups finished two players split off as they came down 18 and a foursome was all that went to the 18Th green. Needless to say we didn't play in the required time and there was no one in the pro shop when we finished. There was staff everywhere outside to clean carts and clubs but no one that could ride out to ask the two groups to play as required.

Tee boxes are a little thin but overall the course is in great shape.

Golden Bear was in great shape overall. The tee boxes were a little thin, but the fairways and greens were in excellent shape. Staff was very friendly and accommodating. Good value for the money.

Nice layout but a bit parched

Greens not filled in yet from aeration, some tee boxes sand/dirt. Bunkers have nice sand. Staff all very accommodating and friendly.

Excellent layout - fun couse

A very enjoyable, challenging course. The layout was very interesting. There's plenty of large trees, some overhanging the fairways. You really need to drive straight to score well here. The greens were true, and in good shape. The fairways could have been better, though. They were rather sparse in places.
