About
A Pete Dye redesign of a George Cobb and Willard Byrd original design helped take the Robber's Row Course at Port Royal Golf Club toward the head of the pack on Hilton Head. Dye added or redesigned 43 bunkers on the front nine, changing par from 35 to 36 and did some shortening on the back nine to change par from 37 to 36.
The golf course plays little more than 6,000 yards, with a somewhat-friendly 124 slope rating from the tips. Players will have to do some work on their approach shots, as the Cobb/Dye design keeps its greens well protected with bunkers.
The golf course is a scenic delight, however, and in a nice move, you get history lessons at the tee boxes to help let you know the past of the area you are playing, which was once an important location in the Civil War.

Great course!
Highly recommend to others and would play again. Course was in overall good condition and the greens rolled true. Staff was friendly and the course layout was good - fairways were a little tight. The starting area was a bit chaotic but not terrible; everyone kind of gathers with their cart around the starters table and waits to get called. Overall fun course though and would play again.

Course great, pace terrible
Arrived at the course 35 minutes before tee time, seemed to be confusion around the starter, sent to first tee late, group that was scheduled to tee off with me was not there, sent off as a single with seemingly full groups around, one person in group in front of me dropped back after 2 holes so we would be a twosome following a threesome, pace of play was so slow that someone from pro shop came out during back nine to offer 9-hole rain checks to anyone who wanted/needed to stop early.
Course was in great shape and the weather was ideal for a round of golf but the pace was well over 5 hours. Not sure if the course was overscheduled but if detracted from what should have been a great day.
A course to enjoy
The course gave us a great opportunity to enjoy a fun afternoon!!!
Robbers Row - my take.
Unfortunately I can not really rate the course as I played so terrible that I can not give it a rating for play - fairway condition - other.
Greens were in excellent shape, speed of play was fit for a foursome.
There was a lot of activity at the clubhouse and the starters booth, but they were able to handle the rush without being upset or upsetting the golfers.
From what I did see of the course (in passing only - woods right, woods left) the fairways were dry, but playable.
For the courses I have played while in Hilton Head - I thought Robbers Row should have been less expensive.
Good value
Tee boxes were good condition. The greens were great. Lot of sand traps but pretty good to get out of. Area around greens were very good,
Course Won’t Dissappoint
Second time playing course and wasn’t disappointed. The course is laid out with plenty opportunities to challenge your club management and shot-making skills.
The greens and fairways are in good shape and consistent rolls with bunkers receiving good maintenance.
The course has variety of tee boxes and accommodates different skill levels. It’s a pretty course and good value for the money including driving range.
Checking in was easy and courteous with post round drinks very reasonably priced.
We’ll return again next year for our annual Golfcation!
Tough course
I thought Robbers Row was tougher than the Barony course. Trees really can mess your shots up! Several no look doglegs. Sometimes just had to hit low shots. Great price today!
Not worth the money
Course layout was staff was great that being said the course is not worth the money !!!!!
Greens not in good shape alot of burnt grass mowing not that great for 160 bucks was very disappointing 😑
Not impressed
The marshal and starter were not customer friendly. They were rude to me as a single lady playing. They were stressing over letting me play as a single.
I will never play this course again.
