Robert Cupp at Palmetto Hall Plantation
About
While Hilton Head is chock full of courses designed by some of the greatest names in golf, just one of them was designed with a computer to give it lines straighter than an arrow throughout.
The Robert Cupp Course at Palmetto Hall can be one of the most interesting and eclectic courses you'll play, as well as possibly one of the toughest. From the back tees the course plays to 7,079, with a slope rating of 144.
Named as Golf World's top designer in 1992, Cupp created a course that is visually challenging as well as challenging to play. With sand traps looking as if they were drawn in by, well, a computer, this is a course you'll tell your friends about, though you may not tell them your score.

Will go back!
Terrifying views of fairways and water on the drive into the course. Didn’t play that way though. Tight makes you hit it right. Greens were the most challenging we’ve been on in years but they were fair and perfect
Great day !!
The course was in excellent conditions , pace of play was very good
BBALL
I really enjoyed the course. Staff was very friendly and treated me like a VIP. The course was well maintained. Weather was great and I was paired up with great and friendly golfers on vacation from Canada. I will definitely play this course again.
Water areas were not marked. On course washrooms were gross/rundown. Starter acted as if it was painful to be there.
Not worth it for the price
I chose the Robert Cupp course at Palmetto Hall based on a mix of online reviews and ChatGPT recommendations, but it turned out to be a very challenging experience.
This is not an easy track for the average golfer. The course features tight fairways, small and undulating greens, and several blind shots that make course management difficult. Without prior knowledge, it can feel more punishing than enjoyable.
Course conditions were just average at best. Both the fairways and greens were playable but didn’t stand out in terms of quality or upkeep.
One of the biggest drawbacks is the lack of guidance on the course. There’s no course map on the scorecard, no GPS on the carts, and no hole layout information at the tee boxes. Unless you’re using an app like 18Birdies or have some prior knowledge of the layout, navigating the course can be frustrating.
I paid under $100 through a GolfNow Hot Deal, which felt fair, but I wouldn’t pay much more than that given the overall experience. In comparison, I think other South Links courses offer a more enjoyable and superior round of golf.
Great course to play
Great layout, pleasure to play. Greens were perfect. Fairways were a bit thin and dry, but that’s true of all courses in the area due to the dry winter. Excellent practice facilities and pro shop. Looking forward to going back.
Nice course. Nice shape. Good pace.
Pleasantly surprised how good this course was. Greens were fast and mint. Fairways lush. Pace was under 4 hours. Good layout. Would play again anytime
Nice course. Good shape. Good eats
We played at 1 pm. Marshall let 3 twosomes off in a row so we could play at our leisure. Came in under 4 hours. Greens were in great shape albeit a touch slow. Fairways green. Carts newish. Good layout. Much better than other courses we played at HH.
Beautiful day of golf
Golf course was in great condition and greens were perfect!
Greens are in perfect shape
From check in through finish the Cupp Course made for a terrific day of golfing. The pace was quick, the course layout interesting, the greens excellent and the staff pleasant and professional. Couldn’t ask for more.
Great layout
This course has a beautiful layout. The course was in decent condition for the time of year although the fairways were a little rougher than some others we played. The greens were in very good condition and were medium fast. The beer price is steeper than every other course . We kept getting tolf to speed up yet we played in 3hrs and 40 minutes so that was annoying.
