Robert Cupp at Palmetto Hall Plantation
About
While Hilton Head is chock full of courses designed by some of the greatest names in golf, just one of them was designed with a computer to give it lines straighter than an arrow throughout.
The Robert Cupp Course at Palmetto Hall can be one of the most interesting and eclectic courses you'll play, as well as possibly one of the toughest. From the back tees the course plays to 7,079, with a slope rating of 144.
Named as Golf World's top designer in 1992, Cupp created a course that is visually challenging as well as challenging to play. With sand traps looking as if they were drawn in by, well, a computer, this is a course you'll tell your friends about, though you may not tell them your score.

Nice course but the rough is not fair
Staff was great, the starter Mitch is great and Dave the cart guy the same. I dont understand the rough and especially behind and to the side of the greens, don’t know what you call this grass but it sucks the ball right in, why would you have that stuff on a nice course, and what is it. I hit most of fairways and approaching shots so I wasn’t affected a lot, but it slows down play cause you can’t see the ball and it’s unfair. The greens were aerated in the past week or to but they still rolled pretty true, I’m sure they are slower than usual
Vacation
Course in great shape. Great friendly staff. We came on vacation and loved playing. Pace of play was perfect
Not up to par
No info on clubhouse closing ( renovation)
Hot as hades! No alternate place to rest and cool down. Pro shop not adequate for this.
Great course. But tough.
Don't let the par rating and the slope being the same as the Arthur Hills course fool you into thinking that this course is similar difficulty. It's not. It's a lot more difficult. There are many greens that are protected by water. There are many greens that are protected by multiple bunkers. The fairways are protected by trees that are very close to the edge of the fairway. Fairway bunkers are restrictive in getting out of them with larger lips. And the greens are lightning fast with a lot of slope and undulation. That being said, it's an amazing course and you won't lack for opportunities to take pictures to show your friends. It's absolutely gorgeous. In perfect shape. The greens were mostly sand as they were fertilizing, but all that did was help because the greens are so fast that it helped slow down the putts. Five stars. Highly recommend

Excellent course, fast pace, really enjoyed this course
Nothing Off the Charts
I was told this was a great course and should be played. I have passed it up for several years and decided to pay for it this year. For the price, I would have expected a lot more. The cart paths need replacing, the greens were super slow. The course is nothing special. Don't get me wrong a nice layout but not rememberable, certainly not worth a 5-star rating or price.
In good shape
Course was in good shape. Enjoyed my round. Got partnered with some really good people.
So you play palmetto Hall, shipyard, and indigo run. And you're not happy with any of them? Maybe you should make your next tee time at Whistling Straits or Pebble Beach. I don't know what you're expecting. But every course on the island is going to cost triple digits. And the ones that you played are some of the best values on the island
