Robber's Row at Port Royal Golf Club
About
A Pete Dye redesign of a George Cobb and Willard Byrd original design helped take the Robber's Row Course at Port Royal Golf Club toward the head of the pack on Hilton Head. Dye added or redesigned 43 bunkers on the front nine, changing par from 35 to 36 and did some shortening on the back nine to change par from 37 to 36.
The golf course plays little more than 6,000 yards, with a somewhat-friendly 124 slope rating from the tips. Players will have to do some work on their approach shots, as the Cobb/Dye design keeps its greens well protected with bunkers.
The golf course is a scenic delight, however, and in a nice move, you get history lessons at the tee boxes to help let you know the past of the area you are playing, which was once an important location in the Civil War.

Golfer Reviews
Robber's Row
Despite having rained heavily the night before, the course was in very good condition. I would play this course the nest time visiting Hilton Head.
Southern Hospitality
Thank you to Jay Rusch and the whole staff at Robber’s Row for making our golf day extra special. I played with my kids and he was so gracious with us, personally assisting us with getting setup and telling us all about the course and its history. We had a fantastic time, the course was in great shape and the play was really smooth. Will definitely be back and looking forward to exploring more of the heritage golf group courses. Thank you Jay and team!
Played due to aeration rate. Course was in okay shape. Fairways cut tight with a lot of dead spots.
Staff was very friendly.
Sandy greens
Port Royal – Robber’s Row Golf Course offers a really nice layout and is a fun course to play. The staff in the pro shop and at the bag drop were very friendly and welcoming, which made for a great atmosphere from the start.
The fairways were unfortunately a little dry during our round, and the greens had recently been aerified and were quite sandy. Because of that, putting was difficult and didn’t feel very true or consistent.
After the round, we wanted to stay for a drink, but there was a wedding taking place in the clubhouse, so it wasn’t possible. Schade.
Nice course
Enjoyed playing here because it was in the best shape of the heritage courses we played. Tee boxes, fairways and especially the greens were in in good shape.
Fun For High Handicappers
Generous fairways, large greens easy to put not too fast.
Some fairways were sparse probably normal for this time of year and lack of rain..played winter rules.
Par 3’s were challenging.
Need to set up tees for senior women. Some green tees did not give as much of a break compared to men’s.
Fun track
Drought in South, but course was still in good shape. Back nine is Super!
Port Royals Robbers Row Course
Courses terrific. I would not hesitate to play it again. Some of the most scenic and beautiful holes on Hilton head Island. I loved every minute of our visit this time and can’t wait to come back again.
Great course!
Highly recommend to others and would play again. Course was in overall good condition and the greens rolled true. Staff was friendly and the course layout was good - fairways were a little tight. The starting area was a bit chaotic but not terrible; everyone kind of gathers with their cart around the starters table and waits to get called. Overall fun course though and would play again.
