Coldwater Golf Club
About
Located in the West Valley, the championship-length course at the Coldwater Golf Club boasts several different challenges for an interesting round of golf. There are elevated tees as well as several dry washes. There are two lakes providing water hazards on the golf course as well. There are also dramatic elevation changes caused by the mountainous terrain. Aside from the challenging game, the course also offers beautiful mountain vistas. The course has not only one signature course but two. The first is the modest eighth hole. Although it is short at 100 yards, it features an elevated tee and a triple-tiered green. Coldwater Golf Club also finishes with a signature hole. The beginning tee shot plays to an open fairway over water with a dry wash to the left, while the approach shot is closed-in by another wash to the left and a lake to the right.

A Sad Course
First off, the staff is outstanding - friendly and accommodating. The course, a Forrest Richardson design, is situated in a wash and residential area. Lots of power poles, railroad tracks, and water run-off areas. Not exactly pretty. The greens were pocked, cratered, and marked with sand and mud. The bunkers showed little care. Plastic lining showing and wall cave-ins abound. The sourrounding collection areas around the greens were also in rough shape. The play is nice. You can see the designers intent to provide challenges. Some nice elevation changes and fairway mounding. But, unfortunately, this pretty little layout has seen better days. It needs to be invested in and cared for better. Otherwise, I would not play it again.
Decent for the cost
With the exception of some knuckleheads playing slow in front of us and not letting us pass them, it was an ok day. The course is still in decent shape. The greens could use some work, but not bad for the money.
For the value it’s okay
They have let the greens and tee boxes go. Very chewed up.
Sunday Round
Coldwater is typically a decent course for the cost. However this past Sunday the greens were patchy and bumpy not allowing for a good roll when putting. It’s hot in Arizona! No beverage cart was available on Father’s Day of all days!! I like the course for its par4s and par5s but greens need some improvement asap.
Marshall borrowed my club
Thankfully my club was returned, but there was a lot of confusion about its whereabouts, and it appeared to have been used while out of the course’s possession. It came back with a few new scratches. Appreciate the return, but the handling of the situation was disappointing.
New ownership??
Course appears to have been abandoned for at least 6 months; greens cracked and bare, tee boxes over-played. It seriously looks as if course went into receivership and has just recently been re-opened.
bogeyfree
Had a good round in spite of some really bad putting surfaces in most holes. The fairways and roughs were pretty decent. I’d come back and play this course because I love the course layout but some major repair on the putting surfaces is badly needed.
T boxes and greens where in very poor condition
I have played this course often and had out of town guests as well. Over the last 6 years I have seen the course rise and fall with regard to it's maintainence but trending down the entire time. I know that golf courses are expensive and staff turnover can be brutal. At times during the high season (winter) they demand a lot to play. I most likely will avoid player here any more. The greens were really awful, patchy, very dry or very wet spots, putting was difficult and accounts for half of your score: so, very essential. T boxes are chewed up to the extent that finding good footing was tough. Sorry, guys, that was my experience.
Had a good round , pace of play was good. Greens were pretty bad dry patches everywhere.
Trending down
Course condition has certainly decayed over the past few months. Green is in tough position, most greens look infected & are not very true. Few putts bounced right off face & overall was not great. Round was fairly cheap so all-in-all they did not over charge. I’ve played Coldwater in the past so I know the potential & it’s far from what it used to be. If you’re looking to just get out & hit some balls, this is not a bad option, just don’t expect it to be plush. Love the staff though.
Worst greens I’ve played.
I understand the warmer weather but this was some of the worst greens in metro Phoenix I’ve ever played. If not the worst. The maintenance and care of them need a lot more attention.
Great value
We paid 78.00 for 2 golfers with gps cart . Not many courses are that cheap in the valley . Granted some of the greens were patchy and dying and hardpan around the fairways and greens . But overall the layout was decent and fairway were is great shape . Would recommend to friends if price is a factor .
Needs some help
Course has degraded since our last time here a few weeks ago. Thin tee boxes and greens, some like concrete. Would rate course conditions below average for sure. Hard traps as well, typical for these types of courses. We were done our round in 2:45, not real busy when we went at 1:00 so that was sure nice.
