Junior National Golf Club

About
Junior National Golf Club (formerly known as Tres Rios Golf Course at Estrella Mountain Park and Estrella Mountain Golf Course) is rich with dense forestry including eucalyptus, mesquite, and pine trees as well as cottonwoods. The course has a parkland-style layout with rolling fairways lined with trees and undulating greens that are medium-sized and fast. To add more challenge to the golf course, water hazards and bunkers come into play on several holes. The par-4 seventh hole is considered the most difficult driving hole on the course. There are stately trees off the tee and the second shot is to a narrow sloping green. Junior National Golf Club features multiple tee boxes for a variety of different golfing options.

Not worth the green fee
There are much better courses for similar price point in the west valley. My friend hurt his back hitting off the fairway because we believe the grass was so thick and grabby. We experienced several issues trying to figure out where the green was from the tee box. Often we had issues shooting distances from a range finder due to not knowing the layout. We lost so many balls in just not being able to locate them in the dirt areas between the link style fairways. Coldwater would be a significantly better course in the west valley for a similar price. Our 4 some will not be back.
Course conditions
This course has good potential, I know they redone the greens and bunkers but when they redone the greens they should’ve redesigned some of them. Some of them are not very creative just perfect circles. And I’ve been hearing about the new course just northeast of the clubhouse and nothing is happening now that course could be very nice if done right maybe they should get Nicholas junior or Lehman to design since one did Estrella and the other did Verrado plus Tom L lives in Scottsdale.
Could be the 2 best courses around if done right.
Thanks RC.
Great Value!
Great attention to detail and greens were top quality. Unfortunately the drink cart was not in service. The day was very busy and hot. Layout of the course was also confusing with signs missing. Play through was good overall.
It’s ok, but…
The ground was under repair in a bunch of places. For some reason it seems like a sin to fix you divots or fix your marks on the greens. Sand is hard as a rock.
If you clean and place, great place.
Course was ok. Greens were great. Fast and true. A lot of areas off the fairways and some fairways dirt. They’re working on areas but not worth what they are charging.
Nice
The course is nice, but the fair ways needs a little tlc
Course Improvements Needed
Layout is good, fairways need to be smoothed out, way too many bumps, holes on greens not placed properly to be even with the turf around the hole, not enough sand in bunkers, especially near the edges. Player can be injured trying to get underneath the ball and come into contact with the fiberglass shell of the bunker. This part needs immediate attention!!
JUST WOW!
This golf course is so amazing. I’ve played There many times in the past and it was a goat track lol. This is my first time playing here in about three years and had no idea this course Is this good now! Fairways are nice, around the greens are magnificent and the bunkers actually have sand and it’s not like hitting a rock out of the bunker lol. Greens are nice and running good. The only thing bad I have to say about the greens is there’s fungus growing on them. Other than that. I’m definitely gonna play here again.
Rough course
The course was in rough shape. It had a lot of dirt patches. Now most of those places weren't in the fairways or greens but if you play like me and not in the fairways you were hitting from dirt. It was a fun course to play. But when courses are in this shape I hate paying $50+ for them. The pace of play was good for the most park. I play as a single and most groups let me around them. Did follow a group for a bit till the turn but they let me through then. All in all though not a bad experience.
Don’t go here.
They have a good junior program. Tees and around the greens. nice rye grass. They do have good bunkers with nice sand in them, Fairways are Bermuda grass and isn’t much to hit off of and if you miss them, you’re in dirt. Not sure if the watering system is broke, but the greens haven’t been watered in a month at least and the pins haven’t been changed at least a month. Worst I’ve seen and played on. Be aware of when you drive in the driving range is off to your left and there’s balls all over the road. You just may be hit.
