About
Uphall Golf Club began in 1895, when the golf course was erected on terrain leased from Sheriff Shairp, who lived on the neighboring Houston Estate. It's a convenient golf course to reach, sitting just seven miles west of the Edinburgh Airport, outside of Uphall Village. It is an 18-hole parkland course set amidst mature trees and features relatively flat land within somewhat tight boundaries, making for a test for all golfers.
Uphall Golf Club's course measures 5,588 yards at par 69. A round of golf kicks off on Mains, a par 4 that comes in at 404 yards from the medal tees. It makes for a challenging opening hole, especially when played into the west wind, requiring an accurate tee shot so as to stay clear of troubles on the left and right, and then golfers are just a medium-to-long iron from a slim green. The round concludes on Binnie Craig, a par-4, 383-yarder that offers an excellent closing hole, again when that west wind is blowing.
After the round, check out the Uphall Golf Club's clubhouse, where management assures that although you're at a "Members Club," you'll be "made extremely welcome."

Very confusing layout
Not impressed with this course unfortunately. The first part of the course, I think holes 1-4 + 15-18, are squashed into a space which should have a lot less holes. Sharing greens, playing across blind fairways which are used by other holes and a very confusing layout. This meant there were groups teeing off to the left, 2 groups putting on the same green to the right and me with my fingers crossed that my next shot was going straight and I wasn't going to kill someone. The 2nd part of the course was much better but it was very same same. Each hole felt as though it was a 400yd straight par 4 over and over again. Tbh, they could have taken a hole or 2 from the first part and moved it to the other side. The layout and signage was very poor with more than one hole, there were no sign posts and nobody around to ask. We actually missed 17 and 18 because we couldn't find them so we left only to find 17 by the exit by which time we had packed up so decided to leave. Google maps couldnt find the place so i had to stop and ask directions. Course was in good condition other than some fairways had lots of freshly cut clumps of grass all over. Greens were fantastic and very fast and the people were friendly. I like trying new courses so no regrets but I won't be back.
Perfect conditions
The pro shop was excellent and accommodating.
The course for this time of year superb.
Bar/catering staff very helpful and friendly and service excellent...
Uphall
Played this gem a few times now. Staff always welcoming. Been out on my own, with friends and strangers.
Varied scores but the course is always consistent.
Only downside can be a hold up where holes cross each other but im not a two hour golfer so happy to wait every now and then.
5* value for money
Well worth a visit! Fantastic condition and some lovely holes to challenge your ability. Greens were really good and overall I had a fab time at Uphall. 10/10 value for money and the Pro was so welcoming and helpful.
Lazy Sunday
Really enjoyed playing this course again, easy walk in good weather.
Quirky but Commendable.m
We Three octogenarians relished our game today. The course was in fine order and we encountered nothing but good humour and
camaraderie - from teenagers on course to all staff, (who were just what you look for in staff, attentive and efficient).
The kind of club that calls you back.
Great course
First time playing and really enjoyed the course. Great condition and impressive new clubhouse. Definitely will play again now I know the layout better. Would recommend playing
Very good course and Pro
I unfortunately booked a Saturday tee time instead of Sunday, 4 of us arrived to find out our tee time was the day before. The Pro was very understanding and moved us to a much later time on the Sunday which we were grateful for...however, he went one further in the end and got us out 10mins later than our original planned time.
Amazing customer experience and I would come back for that reason alone. On the course, full greens and no mats at this time of the year for central Scotland is always a pleasure. If the course is busy, you may find the first tee daunting, but otherwise there is a nice variety of holes.
Really good condition!
Usual winter golf struggles regarding weather and conditions however I was really impressed with uphall. Course playing as normal tee to green and seems to have handled the elements over the winter really well. Always enjoy uphall and the clubhouse is outstanding will def be back!
Not for me.
The course itself was in good condition and the pace of play was good, friendly staff clubhouse looked new also. The course layout isn’t great. Too many holes crossed each other especially on the front 9. Confusing layout and target lines.
Well maintained, neat and interesting course
Lovely course, friendly pro and staff. Great value
Very nice course
A really nice course, well looked after, it's easy to see that they take a lot of pride and care in it. There are a few quirks to the layout, 1st and 2nd holes share a (pretty wide) fairway, 2nd and 15th share a (large) green, and the 5th and 14th fairways cross each other, so I could see potential for some hold-ups if the course is really busy, but we had no problems at all. One other thing that might annoy some people is that the 17th, a very short par 4 (240 yards from yellows) currently has a local rule stating a mandatory lay-up short of the green for tee shots, due to problems with balls being driven into neighbours' gardens. I think this and the layout quirks stem from the fact this was initially a 9 hole course then expanded to 18 but in a slightly limited space. You really shouldn't let any of this put you off what is a very enjoyable course though!
