Scenery distracts from inconsistent turf
It's a good thing Boulder Ridge features so many beautiful views. The stunning scenery across a landscape of boulders and twisting fairways from the elevated tees can help distract golfers from the inconsistent turf conditions. I last played the course three years ago and returned for a charity outing this fall only to discover a course that was in tough shape in spots. I hope this was just bad timing on my part, and things will improve as NoCal gets some rain and cooler temps this fall.
Beautifil Private Course
Amazing course with lots of local knowledge, (blind shots). Not very walkable and several holes cart path only. Course maintained well, small driving range limited to short irons, large putting and chipping areas Members and staff very nice
A hidden gem
I've driven by this place hundreds of times, catching glimpses of fairways but not knowing the name of the course or how to get there.
That's the definition of a hidden gem. Boulder Ridge is as beautiful and as good as some of the bigger "name" private clubs I've played in NoCal. It sits on a unique site, built entirely on a ridge overlooking Almaden Valley and Blossom Valley (where I live).
The whole key is playing the slope of the land. Every hole has a high and low side. Miss it on the low side and your ball will bounce into big-time trouble.
The terrain is rugged, lined with huge boulders. Nice swings in elevation add even more drama and scenery. If you get an invite, don't pass it up.
Boulder Ridge view of San Jose
Course is special with a great view of Silicon Valley. It always plays well and the staff is exceptional! You definitely need to hit it straight and long on several holes. Elevations and sloped lies are the biggest challenge. Really a must play in the Bay Area. Gets crowded on the peak weekend times.
