Monarch Bay Golf Club - Tony Lema Course

The place of play at this course has become painfully slow for the weekend. My group only reached comlpeted 12 holes after 4hrs of play; we ended up leaving by the 13th tee.

Contributing issues:

-No starter that day - singles, doubles were just going out outside of their tee times.

-Tee times are 8mins apart. This feels pretty greedy, given the steep increase to fees.

-No marshalls - not a single marshall observed the whole time.

Despite increasing green fees dramatically, and food and bev costing significantly more, management has not done nothing to address to outrageously slow pace of play on the weekends.

Do not attempt to play here after 10:30am on the weekend; itll be a 5.5-6.5 hr round.

Lots of tee box construction. At least 5 tee boxes closed and had to tee off from the forward tees. Although I shot a great round, doesn’t seem right to post due to playing forward a lot. Golfnow should post something to let customers know if it’s worth purchasing

From the Central Valley and had been wanting to try this course. Buddy from out of state was in the Bay Area for a few days so we went on a weekday. Couldn’t pick a more gorgeous location for a course. Staff was nice, the hotdog at the turn was very tasty. Bummed that their range is closed before 11, really wanted to hit some balls before the round. Tee boxes were in 6/10 shape, greens were in 10/10 shape. Struggled to find level ground on some tee boxes. Wish there was a restroom somewhere on the front 9 other than the clubhouse.

The reason for a 4 is all of the construction. Many tee boxes are being redone. Other than that, book a time and go play.

Looks like they are fixing 80% of the tee boxes which is one the main problem of this course and 80% of the Cart path way are all in really BAD SHAPE. So much duck poops which probably hard to avoid since this course is just close to the water but it really makes the course looks bad. The only thing I enjoyed are the greens. Its in good shape. Not so much ball marks.

Marshall and clubhouse needs to enforce slow play especially walkers not letting folks on carts through

This is the second time that I have played this course. The first time I played, two groups behind me started fighting around hole 12. One group claimed that the other group's ball almost hit them. This time, the group behind me kept teeing off while my friends and I were still on the fairway, waiting for the group in front to finish putting on the green. The closest one landed within ONE yard of me. I kindly asked them to be mindful of their driving distance when teeing off. They said that we were too slow; if we could play faster, they wouldn't be able to hit us. (Our pacing was 2hr15min through 9 holes, and 4hr35min for the full course. We were following the 4 walkers in front of us the whole time.) Out of the 100+ rounds I've golfed across 20+ different courses, this is the only course I've encountered disrespectful players like this.
