New Greens

First time playing since renovation. I have played Jamestown many times in the past. Cut my teeth on this course. I find the new greens to be fast & hard. This type of speed is like it was when it opened. Give it a few month to settle and it should be great. The only down fall I see is a High Handicap Player will get frustrated with the speed on the greens. It is not fair to hit a good shot and then find yourself off the green in the back with no shot.

Nice greens

Have played here a lot but this was my first time playing since the re-opening and changes. Based on other reviews I read I was expecting to see some noticeable changes but the only thing different to me was the greens being redone. Not a bad thing because they are now in great condition and the greens used to be the only thing wrong with the course because the layout has always been above average. I won't be back until some of the newness wears off because it is overcrowded even during the week, literally a group on every hole so if you play be prepared for a slow round.

Good run slow pace

Course has the feel of a private course since they redid the greens. Would play any day of the week but took about 5 hours on a pretty Saturday afternoon.

Perfect Conditions

First time playing this course, so I do not have the benefit of comparing the course prior to and after renovations. We thought the greens were superb and felt like we were playing the closest thing to a PGA/LPGA experience. Tee boxes and fairways were fantastic. Good variation of short Par 3's and more challenging Par 5's. Facilities spaced out on the course. Wish List: more ball wash stations.

Give the greens a year

First time playing the course since it was reopened from having new Bermuda greens put it. The greens are faster then the previous bent grass greens. Jamestown used to be known to have the slowest greens in the area. The greens you could tell were new because I saw shots land 3 feet short of the pin and roll through the green and this was on middle of the green pin placements. Greens should be good in about a year. My beef is with the course trying to recoup all the money it lost from being closed during the summer because of the installing of the new greens. They had tee times spaced out at 6 min intervals and no ranger to push groups along which it's impossible to do at 6min intervals. This made for a 5 hour round on a Saturday afternoon. Hopefully when I return the greens have grown in more and also the pro shop has spaced out the tee times better.

Top Notch

Played the course a couple of times since they reopened in early September

At 6600 yards from the tips it is quite the challenge as you don't get a lot of roll and not many downhill holes. The course is in fantastic condition and the new Champion Bermuda grass greens are the best. They are quick but hard as they are brand new. The city made the right decision to remove bent grass for Bermuda. Fairways in great shape and the rough is brutal to get out of. Not long but the gall sits way down and it's definitely gonna cost making par.

New clubhouse is great and carts in super shape. Only negative is pace of play. Have been there around noon on weekdays and it's extremely slow. It's not an easy course to walk and walkers should not be allowed. Takes much too much time for them to catch up.

All in all a good experience but I hope they get people moving a bit faster.

Great Course

This was my first time playing Jamestown since they renovated the greens and it is in great shape. The greens are absolutely perfect. The fairways were also in great shape along with their burmuda rough. I highly recommend playing here.

Excellent

The renovations are beautiful and this course plays like its brand new. Almost a country club feel. The greens are more than anyone could have hoped for. Amazing. This is now a "must play" just to experience these new greens and contours. Very playable and very enjoyable. Super job.

Great walk in the park

I played Jamestown Park today as a walker with the senior rate of $12 for 18 holes, an excellent value! The staff, especially Michael, are always friendly and helpful. The pace of play was great, 3 1/2 hours for the round! It is a challenging course, with many hills to test a walker like me. # 3, 6, 10, and 11 are all uphill holes. #13 is a great par 3 with great sight lines. #14 reminds me of Pinehurst, with the pine trees lining both sides of the fairway. The course is in good condition, the fairways a little spotty, and excellent greens with a lot of slope They are closing the course for work on the greens in May and will reopen in the fall. The clubhouse is being renovated and will look nice.

I highly recommend Jamestown Park as a good public course with beauty, challenge, great staff, and reasonable green fees. It is convenient for me.

This is a great public course with sets of tees for all skills levels.

Thank you.

Good place to play

Greens were in great shape, some of the fairways had little to no grass. Was the only negative, we had fantastic weather and the pace of play was very good.

winter break

Played Jamestown Park on a beautiful winter day in the 60's. Course was in good condition, cart paths only due to previous rain. A lot of walking to the fairway. Staff is very friendly. The value on Golf Now was terrific. Highly recommended this layout for beauty, challenge, and playability.

Great Day

Played with my usual threesome and a fourth joined in on a atypical December day when the temperature challenged 70. Course was in very good condition for this time of year. Pace was good. Staff very friendly. The reconstruction of the clubhouse is a minor bother but it will be nice when completed.

Jamestown is a good challenge with a good balance of easier, medium and tough holes. Will definitely play again!

The fourth who joined was great to have along and we meshed very well!
