Short course but tough!

What a great course! Great condition & great layout. Short in yardage but it's made up for by several challenging holes. You better bring your A game! One of my new favorite courses and I'll definitely be back!

Great course, very enjoyable. Fairways were some of the best

We had a great day at this course tucked away in the countryside of Lincoln County. Fairways were tip top, green(except for a few rough spots) were ok. Staff were very friendly and grill is excellent. Overall great value and experience. Would definitely play again soon!

Excellent Course!

I love playing at this course. It has been in excellent condition every time I've played here. We ALWAYS seem to get behind a slow group that don't understand how to let someone play through. Awesome staff and an amazing grille. The driving range leaves something to be desired, but overall a wonderful place.

What happened

I'm not sure what happened but I played this course a couple weeks ago and it was in good shape, but they really let it go especially around the greens. It is not worth playing until they correct the issues and get the course in good condition again.

Fun course

It is a fun layout with elevation changes and several shots over water. The course was in pretty good shape. My one complaint is that several of the holes are far apart and there are no signs directing you where to go.

Always fun to play, interesting holes.

Course is in great condition. Couple of tee boxes moved up temporarily for grass to grow but otherwise well maintained. Sand traps in good shape, greens consistent. Always enjoy the layout.

Fun country country club course

The course is short but can get tight off tee box. Greens are in okay shape. Some are spotty. Tee boxes need some work. Fairways and bunkers were fine. Staff were very nice and there is a driving range and putting green. Driving range requires hitting off of mats. Not sure about chipping area. Course is busy and play is slow. I didn’t see any drinking water on course. They also need better yardage markers. The layout is fun and I enjoyed the round. Probably won’t go back though. It is a “country” country club. Expect jeans and T-shirt’s on course if that matters to u.

Glen Oaks Golf Club

Played Glen Oaks for the first time today. It's a little off the main roads in the small town of Maiden, NC, but it is worth a trip if you are looking for a good course at a good price. The multi-level clubhouse is nice and the staff is very friendly. There is a small putting green adjacent to the pro shop, and a driving range on the opposite side of the parking lot. The cart fleet is all electric and in really good condition. The course layout is a little odd in that you have to cross the 10th and 3rd fairways to get to the 1st tee box. There is also a bit of distance between the 6th green and the 7th tee, but other than that, the rest of the course lays out sensibly. In some cases, greens and tee boxes are quite close together, characteristic of courses much older than this one.

As far as course conditions go, the bermuda on the fairways and tees had not yet begun to grow and was still in its dormant white color. The greens, on the other hand, were magnificent. I couldn't believe how smooth they were and how true the ball rolled on them given the amount of play the course seems to have. It was hard to find ball marks on any green. Putts rolled true and speed was consistent across all the greens. Most of them were fairly flat or gently sloped, with the notable exception of the 12, which had a large ridge that separated the front and the back of that green.

As far as course layout goes, the holes were quite interesting. It is definitely a second shot golf course. Most holes give you room off the tee, but often the approach shot demands a good deal of precision to hit the green. There may be a hazard, either water or bunker immediately in front of the green, or the approach to the green narrows significantly from the fairway. There are also several holes that dogleg in the last 75-100 yards of the hole, which make tee shot positioning key. Water comes into play on five holes. The course isn't overly long, but their isn't a short par 3 on the course. The 18th hole is very interesting. It is a par 5 that features a downhill tee shot to a two tiered landing area separated by a rock wall. You need to hit it past the rock wall to the lower landing area to have a good chance of clearing the pond on your second shot, so you have to hit a good tee shot, but not too good of one, or else you will be wet. From the white tees, that is between 215 and 240 yards. There is 140 yards of carry over the water to the landing area before the hole doglegs left uphill to the green.

The course was very busy on this Sunday afternoon, but the groups were very accommodating. I played as a single, and was able to play through six group in 15 holes.

I will definitely come back once the course greens up to see it at its best. If you are looking for a fun challenge, definitely put this on your 'to play' list.

Fun Course

I was not familiar with this course until I saw it on GolfNow. Course is well laid out and was super enjoyable to play. For February, it was in great condition and had a country club feel to it. Staff was also very friendly. A great find and I plan now to play it often.

Rude and unprofessional

Monday, August 29, 2016

Rude and unprofessional grounds crew. As our foursome was about through with our round with 4 holes to play, we were in the fairway ready to hit our approach shots to the green and an employee was on the green spraying it. We waited about 15 minutes for him to finish before we could hit. This was the first time I've ever played a course where the grounds crew didn't stop and let players play. Well the same thing happened the next two holes so being the last group of several finishing up and knowing the rest were waiting for us to finish, we went ahead and hit our approach shots to the next two greens with the employee still spraying the greens slowly. None of our balls got anywhere near him. On the last hole as we were hitting our approach shots another employee approached us and told us to never hit while his employee was on the green. We told him the circumstance and I said the employee should have let us play and then sprayed the greens after we passed and he said that's not how it works there. Very unprofessional. Other than that I enjoy playing the course itself. Just rude unprofessional staff.

Walked

My New Favorite Economical Course

If you’re tired of playing the munis and other cheaper courses in the greater Charlotte area, then make the 45 minute drive from Charlotte (Billy Graham Pkwy & I-77 area) to Glen Oaks. Lot of walkers (including seniors). I measured it at 7.25 miles. Tiring, but not exhausting.
The imaginative layout offers a lot of twists and turns and mostly wide fairways. Several holes on the front are tree-lined off the tee. The good news is the ground underneath is covered with pine needles. That translates to fewer lost errant shots.
Plenty of well-trimmed bunkers filled with !sand! Lots of water. Especially different is #18. The local rule allows golfers to tee up a second time for the long shot over water.
When I played there were some bare spots in a couple fairways and sod just starting to take around some of the collars. Other than that, for the price, this is the closest thing to a country club available.

Great course for an ok price

I really enjoyed playing today and had a fun challenge with this course. No complaints except some of the paths are a little far to walk. I would recommend a cart for this course. It costs around $30 for 18 holes with a cart
