Wow, certainly not a 4.2 rating
This was the first time I played this course and it was a Monday afternoon. But never have I ever witnessed such a lack of self awareness by a grounds crew. On the first 9 holes, I was bothered by a member of the grounds crew on every hole. Whether it was a grass mower, green waterer or leaf blower - it was always something on every hole. It was almost like they were doing it on purpose. Teeing off, oh I'll just mow write around your tee box. Next hole, some guy is watering the green while I'm waiting to hit my 2nd shot. Next hole, some guy on blower cart is dancing around in the fairway. What an absolute joke. The front 9 is garbage, the back 9 which was somewhat newer and wasn't that bad. Most courses, coordinate their grounds crew around tee times so not to affect the golfers. In the event you run into a grass mower, they'll turn off the mower until you have moved on. Not here though. The greens were also very small in size and not the "excellent" greens that others have mentioned. Certainly doesn't deserve a 4.2 rating - maybe a 2.
Best Greens in Charlotte
These were by far the best greens I have played in the past 5 years. They were championship speeds, very firm, but still able to get spin and check when necessary. You have to know how to play the ball both ways. the front nine most holes shape left to right and the back most holes go right to left. The front nine is the prototypical Donald Ross elevated small greens. The back nine is Tom Jackson so it is more traditional. I look forward to going back soon.
Great Shape
This course is in excellent shape. Greens are excellent and well tended. Plenty of cold water on the course and the price is fair. I will be back soon.
Great Course
I've played there many times and it keeps getting better. Newly paved cart paths on the back 9 and smooth greens. It's nice for a public course.
Even with the hot dry conditions course was in great shape
I had a great time with my family as a early Father's Day present. The staff was very accommodating with my desire to be a single since I had my young kids with me and didn't want to be in a foursome. I was very impressed with the condition of the course despite the 100 degree temps. Greens rolled very well and were consistent. My only small was issue was the lack of yardages on sprinkler heads. I found it difficult to find a good yardages, this increases the challenge when playing the course for the first time. That aside I was happy with the experience and was well worth trip from Charlotte to play a new track.
Nice Course
I found the course in very good shape. The fairways are wide open and although the greens were aerated they
were not difficult to putt. I intend to play this course again.
Great day of golf
Very good greens
Very good layout
Well maintained
Great starter
Comments from a 9 handicap player
Great experience!
Laid back staff. Great firm and fast conditions. Smooth greens!
Good value
Course was in good shape for this time of year. Some areas under repair.
Monroe Country Club
Two entirely different nines...enjoy the back nine a lot more...the front nine extremely tight with extremely difficult driving holes and tiny greens! But the course is in excellent condition and well maintained!
Al's Review
Decent course in good condition. A bargain for the price paid for the round.
Top notch greens
If the tee boxes were in better condition, I would have rated the course 5 stars. The greens and traps were in great shape and the course has great drainage. A bargain round of golf for the price
Average at best.
First time playing at Monroe Country club. I was in town so I thought I would give this place a try. The starter was friendly and got us off a little earlier than our tee time. The golf course was just average at best, the tee boxes and fairways were still brown and the grass was real thin in places. The best part of the course were the greens, they were smooth and rolled very good. It was a good layout and was a fairly easy golf course to play but it wasn't anything spectactular to play. Only thing I did not like was that the driving range was so far away. you could either take a golf cart down a long gravel road or it may have been faster to get in your car and drive back up hwy 601 to hwy 74 to get to it. All in all its was a fun day and we had a good time.
Great golf at a great price
If you haven't played this track you are missing out.
Disappointed from reviews
With a 4 out of 5 star rating I expected much better from this course. The best part undoubtly was the greens. They were in tip top shape. But the teeboxes and fairways need much work. Bunkers were average not bad condition not excellent. It rained the day before so the course was soaked through the front 9 which was expected. Pace of play was fast for a beautiful Sunday morning. Back nine is 5x better than the front nine. Did also play in March I'm sure the course is better in the summer. Great value for the price tho. Fun layout as well and great staff.
Fun course
Always fun to play here. The greens are always a challenge.
Great Greens
This course will take you by surprise. It looks at first like a little old "country" course. But it is exactly the opposite. The greens are almost always immaculate. If you miss the green on any given hole, especially in the wrong place, you can count on double bogey being in play. I can't say enough about the greens, smooth, firm and true. Play this course in the summer and they're likely to be running 11-12 on the stimpmeter. Great hot dogs at the turn (it would be nice if they could reopen the grill though).
Nice Greens
Course was sloppy due to recent rains. Cart path only. First time played and weather was not the best. cold and windy. Fairways bermuda so they are dormant and lot of divots. Bunkers had not been raked and a couple had standing water in. Greens were in excellent shape and ball rolled true. Crews were out blowing leaves and such to keep clear so I imagine when weather cooperates it is a nice course. Surprised on such a day there were as many walkers out on course which slowed play. Actually skipped two holes as back up occurred, played as a two some.
Good Course
I've played this course a few times now and it's becoming one of my favorites in the area. Staff are always professional and course is in pretty good shape for this time of year. There were leaves on some of the greens but the crew was out and working on it. Cours is open for the most part and great for walking. I can't realy rate the food as I haven't eaten here yet. Greens role nicely and present a challenge some roll diffrent than they apperar. Great course to work on your game. Or just hav a fun day with the guys.. Would deffinately reccommend especially with the golfnow rates...
