struggling
The course was not in very good shape, It'll be one and done for me.
A round in November
Beautiful weather and a fun day golfing. Decent price on golfnow.com.
recommend the course
excellent condition and good value also nice everythings
Awesome
Always a great time at Monroe CC, and for 23 dollars it was a steal. First time I played it was right after their club championship and the greens were running 13's (said the pro). Let's just say some of my putts didn't stay on the green haha. Be sure to hit the practice green before you tee off. Five star course, go play it.
Under
When I tell people about the course they have heard of it but everyone thinks it is private. It is owned by the City of Monroe. The front 9 designed by Donald Ross will challenge you around the greens. The back nine has it own challenges as it is much tighter and surrounded by woods. One of the least known courses in Charlotte it is a must play. Enjoy!
Great Venue!
Fantastic layout and shots values. Greens were quick and true. I came as a single and joined with a nice couple behind me as the pace was a bit slow on the front 9. They were great company ..... Justin and his girlfriend were great golf enthusiasts and good company.(Hopefully we can connect again. :-) )
The course super. needs to have a meeting with his staff! I had seen another comment on here stating rudeness from the maintenance staff and thought the reviewer "might not get it". Having played the course, I get his comment now. On the back 9, our play was interrupted by the grounds crew virtually every hole, nearly every shot. At one point a guy mowing fairways pulled right up to my golf cart, stopped and stared at me as if to say "How dare you interrupt my mowing?" Really?? Golfers don't exist so you have a job cutting grass......Grounds crews exist to provide a well conditioned course for golfers.... Huge difference! I'm not saying stop the great maintenance. Just change the attitude and learn some etiquette.
Superb golf course though.....Kudos to the architects.
Good place to play
Greens are great . Tight holes but overall good place to play
Nice Course
Course is in excellent condition. Staff are extremely friendly and helpful. Pace of play of average. The course is tight and flat. The greens are all flat. Almost every putt was straight and no putt had more than a cup of movement. Greens were a little slow but ran true. Overall it's a very nice course and worth playing. However the layout is slightly boring.
Great value
The front nine is a Donald Ross design with tight fairways, small greens, no water and I missed all the bunkers. The back nine is a Tom Jackson design with wider fairways, larger greens, more bunkers and some water. It's a very fair test of golf. The rough is penalizing without being punishing. The greens are in great shape and very fast. The staff is very friendly, the golfers are friendly and the beers are only $2. Quite a bargain in today's golf world. I enjoyed my round and will be back.
Great Course
Being originally from Monroe, I've played here a lot over the years and I'll have to say that the course never looked better than right now. You'll be pleased with the fast greens and superb fairways. Great condition and always a good value. Enjoy!
This course is great!
The pace of play is quick, under 3 1/2 hours for the round! We had a great time!
Wow, certainly not a 4.2 rating
This was the first time I played this course and it was a Monday afternoon. But never have I ever witnessed such a lack of self awareness by a grounds crew. On the first 9 holes, I was bothered by a member of the grounds crew on every hole. Whether it was a grass mower, green waterer or leaf blower - it was always something on every hole. It was almost like they were doing it on purpose. Teeing off, oh I'll just mow write around your tee box. Next hole, some guy is watering the green while I'm waiting to hit my 2nd shot. Next hole, some guy on blower cart is dancing around in the fairway. What an absolute joke. The front 9 is garbage, the back 9 which was somewhat newer and wasn't that bad. Most courses, coordinate their grounds crew around tee times so not to affect the golfers. In the event you run into a grass mower, they'll turn off the mower until you have moved on. Not here though. The greens were also very small in size and not the "excellent" greens that others have mentioned. Certainly doesn't deserve a 4.2 rating - maybe a 2.
Best Greens in Charlotte
These were by far the best greens I have played in the past 5 years. They were championship speeds, very firm, but still able to get spin and check when necessary. You have to know how to play the ball both ways. the front nine most holes shape left to right and the back most holes go right to left. The front nine is the prototypical Donald Ross elevated small greens. The back nine is Tom Jackson so it is more traditional. I look forward to going back soon.
Great Shape
This course is in excellent shape. Greens are excellent and well tended. Plenty of cold water on the course and the price is fair. I will be back soon.
Great Course
I've played there many times and it keeps getting better. Newly paved cart paths on the back 9 and smooth greens. It's nice for a public course.
Even with the hot dry conditions course was in great shape
I had a great time with my family as a early Father's Day present. The staff was very accommodating with my desire to be a single since I had my young kids with me and didn't want to be in a foursome. I was very impressed with the condition of the course despite the 100 degree temps. Greens rolled very well and were consistent. My only small was issue was the lack of yardages on sprinkler heads. I found it difficult to find a good yardages, this increases the challenge when playing the course for the first time. That aside I was happy with the experience and was well worth trip from Charlotte to play a new track.
Nice Course
I found the course in very good shape. The fairways are wide open and although the greens were aerated they
were not difficult to putt. I intend to play this course again.
I recommend you give it another try. Course has the best greens in the area. Play it in the growing season and not in the winter and you will be very impressed!
