Nags Head Golf Links

I was very pleased with my experience at Nags Head Golf Links. It isn’t a long course by any measure, but it does require some good solid strategic thinking. The wind will always be a factor, as it is on all seaside links courses, and most of the holes are fairly tight. Most of the holes with generous landing areas off the tee require a good deal of carry to reach it. Otherwise, if you’re standing on the tee, and thinking about leaving the driver in the bag, that’s probably the right choice.

The greens and fairways are immaculately kept, as are the bunkers. There were a couple of fescue “haystacks,” which are featured on many southern courses, and are gimmicky, in my opinion. No one should be penalized for hitting a decent shot.

Overall, if you play a strategic game, keep it in play, and keep your putts firm, you’ll play to your handicap, and have an enjoyable round. If you look at the yardage, and expect to bomb the course into submission, bring extra balls, and add the commensurate strokes.

The course is laid out well with the space available, but its not inspiring or much fun. Rangers we’re overly pesky, not pushy but made an annoying effort to let you know they were there. I doubt I’ll ever be back and I wouldn’t recommend to anyone I would want to have a relaxing and fun game of golf.

The course is beautiful and challenging with precise accuracy required on some areas. Otherwise just great fairways and manicured greens.

Course is in great shape! But no beverage cart in 90-degree weather??? Desk staff not very welcoming. Overall, very enjoyable, but experience could be a lot better with a bit more attention to customer service and old-fashioned hospitality.

Played with my wife who is learning. . The starter could not have been ruder and made us feel more unwelcome.

This course, as always, was in phenomenal shape. The fairways were like carpet to hit off of, and the greens, due to the heat, were like glass, although they did slow up a little. Making well placed tee shots is the key here, as if you do, you will be rewarded with easier 2nd shots and birdie and par opportunities. Some of the par 4’s, 2 of them as a matter of fact, I either cut the corner over trees for an 80 yd 2nd shot to the green, or hit a bomb center cut down the fairway for a chip and putt birdie. It’s a short course if you play from the whites like I do, only about 5800 yds. Some of the par 4s are less than 300yds. It’s a very challenging course, and very well maintained from tee to green.

The course avg cost I believe is about $80-$125 in prime season, but I got a hot deals time for $83.99, had golf now vouchers, so I basically got my round for free only paying $3.49 for the convenience fee.

Play this course if you can. It’s a gem in the OBX.

Took an impromptu road trip from DC to Outer Banks this week, course is short from the tips but plays much harder and longer, with the wind and the demand for placement shots. Great Bermuda grass, really well manicured around the greens and the layout is very Mike Strantz esque on some holes. The finishing holes reminiscent of Pebble Beach. Happened to run into the GM, Alex (Anderson?) and he was super cool and actually played with us for a couple holes because we were just a twosome. All around great experience. Thank you, NH

Great course Great shape very challenging course for not being real long

I paid $52 for a hot deal and for what I experienced I got all my moneys worth plus more. Very friendly and inviting staff and ranger. Course is full of beautiful views with so many water and bay holes. Fairways are in great shape nice and green and a little long to protect them. Likewise greens are a little long and slow but expected due to weather- they’re green and plush nevertheless. Will definitely be back!

This club has gone downhill rapidly in the past 6 months . The greens are in great shape but The management is non existent. the dining room is not open consistently. the servers are a mess wearing dirty uniforms with holes in them , and are extremely rude The clubhouse is in disrepair and when issues were brought to Alex or Richard They took no action. They don’t care about the guests or the upkeep of the clubhouse .. They cut corners aren’t even serving Sunday brunch anymore and turned what was once nice Friday night dinners into a nasty buffet . No thanks! much better service and value on the beach. It really has gone downhill in the past 6 months
