About
Nags Head Golf Club has a traditional Scottish-links layout that is right at home on the windswept terrain of the Outer Banks. Situated along the Roanoke Sound, the rugged coastline and rolling sand dunes perfectly mimic a classic links landscape. The golf course is a shot maker's layout that will test your skills but it is still player friendly enough to appeal to all skill levels. You'll need a sharp short game for sure, but you won't need much length on this rather short layout. Some form of water appears on nearly every hole, including some holes that play right along the Sound, and the undulating greens can be tough. It's a challenging-but-fun round that is worth playing for the scenery alone. Unsurprisingly, Nags Head Golf Club is one of the most popular golf courses in the OBX.

Still a winner
This is a wonderful course to play if you ever get down to the Outer Banks. Well maintained and friendly staff make this course one of my favorites. While not long, most holes will give you some sort of challenge so you need to think carefully about club selection. If the wind is coming off the sound, it’s really fun to aim for the water and see your ball blown back to the fairway.. Greens are moderately fast and kept in top condition despite the amount of daily play. Nice bar to relax afterward!
No fun
With many challenging hole layouts (water, swamp, etc), and very little visible from the tee boxes, the lack of a detailed course map was inexcusable. I suppose it is fun for someone who has played the course many times, but for a first timer (or in my case an ONLY timer), it was near impossible to score well.
The starter admonished us to keep up with the pace of play, but apparently he did not pass the word. We waited ten minutes on every tee box from 9 forward, with NO SIGN of a course ranger.
At $90, it was a steal. And not in a good way.

He could care less if anyone other than members walked through the door. This after buying two shirts. We bought one and paid for it. Then decided on buying another. He acted like we were putting him out. NOT A GOOD REPRESENTATION FORM WHAT IS A GREAT COURSE
Yes, I agree on pro shop staff sometimes acting like they couldn’t give a crap! If I acted like that at the club I worked at in FL, I’d have been fiirrreedddd!!!!

Always a thrill to play this course..
We vacation at OBX every year and we make it a point to play this course. Challenging but beautiful especially the holes along the sound especially the 17th hole. Great value, pace of play and friendly staff.

Nice layout narrow makes you play smart
35 mph winds off the bay made tough conditions and challenging but still had fun and like the course

Aeration??
Would be nice to know before paying & playing that the greens have been or were being aerated. That said, staff were very nice. course was wet to muddy in spots. Went off at 8 ish and they were still mowing around the greens and tee boxes as late as 11 AM. Greens were very soft. I had a few balls literally plug on the greens and I’m not a high spin/ high ball striker. Greens were average speed.

Customer service
The course was beautiful. Staff in the clubhouse was not friendly on the phone or in person. Club rental was pricey for dirty clubs. We could not use the driving range, because we were not members.

Not for beginners
Beautiful course great condition but if you’re not a great golfer hitting good shots will be very difficult. Had a blast but my score says other wise.

Great OBX Course, a must play
Overall great course and enjoyable. We caught a nice windy day which was great in the heat, but made some of the holes along the sound more challenging into the wind. Tight fairways and lots of fun angles to play in from with blind shots to boot.
