River Ridge Golf Club is one of the finest public golf courses in Raleigh. The course sprawls across 100 acres in the heart of the Triangle, it's an easy 15-minute drive from downtown Raleigh. The lush green of the course contrasts beautifully with the Carolina blue skies. Mature trees frame most of the holes and there are a few lakes that come into play. The rolling terrain provides plenty of ups and downs throughout the golf course. Accuracy will be generously rewarded but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The course's signature hole is the par-4 fifth, a 375-yard hole that can be conquered with smart play. Try to keep your long iron or fairway wood to the right of the fairway, which will give you a short iron approach into the green.

Nice round

Had some issues out here the previous week with pace of play but did not experience this issue this time around. It was quite cold out so that probably kept crowd to a minimum. Course is in great shape for winter. #6 always has drainage issues and water logged fairway though.

Pace of Play

I went out as a single around 1:30 hoping to get in as much as possible before dark (should be about 3.5 hours of play). Was instructed that they were running behind and busy. Got paired with another single, no problem for me. We finished the front 9 at 4:20. I didnt even want to head to the back 9 as we may have got 2 more holes in so i went back to the range for 30 minutes. Probably should have only paid for 9 holes but i didnt think it would take almost 3 hours to play 9.

Awesome Greens

River Ridge has some of the best Bermuda greens in the Raleigh area...VERY Fast and true! Fairways are in good shape, rough is not too long but very dense. Great, fair layout. Sand traps are a little inconsistent as far as depth/texture. Great play on GolfNow Hot Deal!

Enjoyable and challenging

This was a very solid public course at a reasonable price. It offered a good challenge while not being overly difficult. Greens were fast if you were above the hole! Course conditions were good on the day we played.

Solid

Top dressing made it tough but the greens rolled true and the staff was awesome. We were paired with two great guys and had a solid day on the course. Pace of play was solid and it was not very crowded so we had a great day.

First time of many

I'm quite happy that I chose this course! The condition was fantastic, the course is set up just as well. It is a challenging course with a number of blind tee shots and undulating greens that had some very interesting pin positions. I played from the whites, but I can see more and more challenge as you move back two more tee sets. I will be visiting again, and soon.

Always seems to be in good shape

I play here a bit specifically because the greens are always quick and a challenge. Course conditions on the Sunday we played were good and pace of play was excellent.

Best course for the money

River Ridge is a wonderful golf course. It's challenging but enjoyable. The greens are always fast and roll really well. They are also extremely undulating. The fairways are in great shape and tight with very little bare spots. The bunkers have decent sand and are always raked. No rocks or pebbles. You really cannot beat River Ridge given what the greens fees are.

Two issues however:

1) The range- don't come here to hit balls. One of the worst I've ever seen. Hackers usually have it chopped up by the weekend. You hit off of dirt on an uphill lie.

2) You will never hear a "Thank you" from the pro shop or grill. They can be flat out rude at times if they even acknowledge you. These people need a refresher on where the money on their pay check comes from. Don't like your job? Quit.

Other than those two issues, you'll be glad you played a round out here.

Top 2 in area

If you have tough decisions on where to play. Choose river ridge. It may cost an extra $ 10 on average of surrounding courses but it is well worth it.

Greens are big and usually quick but this time the first three holes were quick then it all slowed down. Layout is great especially for the difficulty, a lot of area to miss hit and still be ok

Good Course but slow

very nice course with good conditions and interesting layout. Pace was a problem though. Round took five hours with two groups on many tee boxes. Suggest that starter needs to space the groups a bit farther apart and that ranger needs to politely ask people to pick up the pace. The slow pace diminishes what is a otherwise a very good place to play.

Nice course/staff

Was a very good value for the price. Included free range balls. We had a tee time for 4pm but were told it would be a little later due to an outing. Waited till 4:15 and were still held up for our first 4 holes. Should have done a better job keeping the outing moving or not allowed us to schedule a 4pm tee time. Overall course was nice and in great shape. Would return again.
