River Ridge Golf Club is one of the finest public golf courses in Raleigh. The course sprawls across 100 acres in the heart of the Triangle, it's an easy 15-minute drive from downtown Raleigh. The lush green of the course contrasts beautifully with the Carolina blue skies. Mature trees frame most of the holes and there are a few lakes that come into play. The rolling terrain provides plenty of ups and downs throughout the golf course. Accuracy will be generously rewarded but it's not overly punishing for the high handicapper. The course's signature hole is the par-4 fifth, a 375-yard hole that can be conquered with smart play. Try to keep your long iron or fairway wood to the right of the fairway, which will give you a short iron approach into the green.

Put this one on your bucket list

I've seen this course on may to Clayton several times however never heard anything about the course. Last week I saw it again and decided to give it a go. Great course and layout, greens are only a year old but will get better. Greens are similar to Pine Hollow. Excellent course layout. Try it out, suggest riding if it's a warm day.

This is the best course I've played since moving to NC

This golf course is special. Now, I am one to hold everything to high standards especially golf courses. This one completely exceeded expectations. You truly feel like you are playing on a super exclusive country club. The conditions are absolutely incredible, the greens are some of the best I've ever played (they were rolling probably a 12-13). There was no one on the course when I played and was able to fly through 18. The overall conditions of the course match some of the best in the state. I have to say this is my favorite course right there with lonnie poole. I would HIGHLY recommend this course to anyone. I just wish it was closer to my house. The only small qualm I have was that they had gas carts, not a big deal but I just think the course deserves nice electric carts.

Good course in good condition, a bit pricey

Overall the facilities and course are nice and definitely above average. The course plays pretty short, but the layout adds to the challenge. Water, fairway bunkers in play on many holes driving lay-ups and makes club selection important. I rode, but this would be a very tough course to walk. Some of the breaks between green and tee box are pretty long.

It is a very nice course and I have no hesitation in recommending it. Pace of play was good, there was a ranger actually watching the pace of play. Looking at just the round and golf it is easily a 4 star course. The greens were slightly above average condition, the fairways were above average. The issue I have is the price premium. No issues with the course, but I am not sure the pricing matches the course. It runs pretty much what UNC Finely would cost on weekends, but it just isn't that kind of course.

The grille and club house/pro shop are very nice.

Love the Layout

Course was not in the best shape. Greens are top dressed and bumpy. Hopefully that will change soon. Had a great time. Can't beat it for the price.

Worst Ranger Ever

I have always enjoyed the layout at River Ridge, very Nic golf course and it had been a couple of years. Course was in decent shape but was disappointed to see another course more to Bermuda greens. Yuck.

These greens were especially bumpy but I'm sure they will get better. They would mot prevent me from returning.

What will prevent me from a return round is the rudest ranger I have encountered in years. He was especially nasty and complained about our pace of play which clocked in at 3:50 for a foursome. Bad experience.

Enjoyable Round

I snagged a $25 weekday twilight round with a 4pm tee time. I played in 2.5 hours, and only saw 2 groups (both of whom let me play through) the entire time. The greens were recently sanded and it was 95 degrees, so perhaps that had something to do with so few golfers being on the course. On that note, there were plenty of water coolers on the course. The greens were still rolling pretty good. I've played when the greens weren't sanded and they're normally in good shape and rolling nicely. They are firm and pretty quick. Played the tips and it was a fair test. I like the layout, but many of the holes force you to keep the driver in your bag. There are a few blah holes, but for the most part every hole is unique.

Challenging and in great condition

1st time here and impressed. Played in afternoon on a Friday so we had the course to ourselves. Friendly staff all around. Course is in excellent condition especially the tee boxes and most greens. I like this course because it allows you to think about each shot. Will definitely go back here soon.

Great Course

The only reason I indicated this a a 3 star was because the green had just been punched and they were like putting at the beach. Other than that the course was immaculate. I play it several times a year and love the setup. I would have like to be notified when I booked the tee time. I would have skipped playing this time because of the greens.

Challenging Course in Great Condition

Play 18 as a foursome and the course was in great shape. They are improving the fairways on 4 & 6, but outside of that, the course was beautiful. The greens were quick, providing a challenge but it wasn't impossible. Great value, great course, great fun.

REALITY CHECK

somebody fell asleep and woke up thinking they were a premier golf course! $69. are you kidding me???? too many courses in the area just as nice, if not better charging way less. plus two holes were under construction and not even playable. still not worth what they are asking, even on their best day. marking this off of my "courses to play" list. at least until the rates come down to earth.

Good Couse Bad experience

The staff was good but tried to match me with a golfer who did not want to play with me. I'm not sure why but it was an uncomfortable setting. Other than that it was all good.

UNDERWHELMING!!

Not much to say other than just a very average, short golf course. Not in the greatest shape, better than some and not as good as others.

Don't think I'll be heading back anytime soon, especially for what the charge compared to other courses in the area.

Tricky greens

Course was in good shape but the speed of the greens was a bit inconsistent. A fun time but a bit rushed due to a tournament starting at 1:00.

tee time booking

During playing, I was informed that shot gun starting at 1:00pm that day. I was a little pushed last 3 holes because of that. It would be great they(golf now) blocked out certain time if individual golf courses have their own events such as a outing. Other than that I enjoyed the course.
