Work
This course is great for some tune up work. The heatwave we had earlier this summer took a toll on some of the greens(which are usually in great shape). I hope that as it cools down a lil they come back strong.
These greens are booty
This is a fun course to play but right now, the greens are in terrible shape. Just know that going into it. Other than that, it’s a fun little course.
Nice course, but short
Nice course with some good holes, but way to short. I think 2 of the Par 5s were only 400 yards. I generally play the whites. But after 9 switched to the blues.
Greens in need of some work. But it is a pretty course with lots of doglegs and hills.
Terrible Greens
I played RGA two months ago and found the course to be in good shape. I returned yesterday to play and the greens were absolutely terrible. I do not know what happened over the last two months, but something needs to be done. The staff was great and accommodating.
Greens in real bad shape
Just what the title says. Front nine not too bad. The back 9 was closed because of how trash they are so they had us play the stakeholders private 9. First hole was playable but all other greens were mostly dirt. Knights play was easier to play on. Not worth the $42. Maybe next year.
TERRIBLE GREENS
Greens were absolutely terrible. Half of them had little to no grass. Do not waste your money. Maybe if they can get it in better shape down the line, but do not play in the near future
Value No More
Last time I played RGA was about 2 years ago. Fast forward to last weekend and the only nice thing I can say about it is the staff was very friendly. Course is in terrible shape and greens are non existent. Heat has hurt the course and they need to take a week or two break and try to rehab this course. Greens were dead and full of crab grass and super slow/not true. Don’t spend your money here. Several other courses in the area that you will have a better time at. Fairways were okay but pace was super slow for such a short course. Took almost 5 hours
Greens
Course is typically in decent shape for the price, but the greens are in bad shape right now. A couple on the back 9 are really bad. Pace of play was slow, but everywhere is right now.
Trash
We were forced to play the stock holders course for the back nine and the greens are the worst I’ve ever played. More than 50% were bare or weeds. For the money you should play Lochmere..
Decent course
The course wasn’t as good as I was expecting but it wasn’t bad by any means. They need to stagger the tee times more because I played 9 and took 2 and a half hours. I got stuck behind a golf coach and one of his players and the proceeded to hit about 6 shots of the tee box each time. Besides them the course was great. Greens are a lot faster then they look so don’t be fooled
Value for the money
It’s a ice track, with a few long Par 4’s and short Par 5’s. The weather here has been scorching, with occasional thunderstorms, and several greens are just dead. Some are merely hanging on. Otherwise the course is in decent shape. Starter was good, made pairs when he could. Play move along. It’s close to downtown Raleigh where I live. Overall pretty good. Will come back.
Not terrible for the price
Three greens in a row on the start of the back 9 had little or no grass on them. The price of the round made this a little more acceptable but still wouldn’t run back to play here again. A lot of the tee boxes were in rough shape and about half them were tough to get a tee in the ground.
Average Course
Kind of short, alright conditions/layout. Very laid back and easy going and worth the price to play.
Nice and simple. Classic.
Great course quiet carts. Very open. Hard to lose a ball out of bounds. You can lose it in the rough. The ball just disappears. I found like 6 balls that were in play but likely lost drop mad players. This is possibly a sign that it not mowed low enough. Cart path is completely toasted. Where no cart path is left, there are rocks ranging in size from gravel to golf ball sized to fill in holes. Staff is super nice. Thought they were being excessively nice last time but realize after three trips here that they really are just that nice. Friendliest staff in Wake County IMHO. Many other courses act like they are doing you a favor by allowing you to play there. To some degree that's true but I shouldn't pick up on it. No driving range here so if you don't play often your first whack to get the dust off will be on hole 1. If this place had a driving range I would go all the time. Excellent and spacious putting and chipping green. There is space to go back to about 100 yards and practice into the green but I assume that is restricted because you will leave giant ball marks and ruin the chipping experience for others. Tryon is heavy traffic coming off 18 so you can die crossing the street on a workday at 530. I drove all the way back to 13 to get across safely. No easy way to get back there from 18 other than meandering very far from where you really want to go. Owner should pave a shorter way back to the club house off 18 that goes under Tryon safely.
