Fairways & Greens
Great staff, great location, terrible greens and fairways. Good place for beginners, or if you’re looking for cheap golf. IMO, that’s all this course would be good for.
Always slow
Greens were in the worst shape I have ever seen them
Met expectations
Given that it's a pretty busy, public course and we're in the fall/winter season, the course is in decent shape. Tee boxes are a bit chewed up but I didn't expect perfection with the recent rain and frost. Easy walking course. For the price, it's worth it.
Putting in a cow field
This is a great course to play for the average or above. Sadly the greens have gotten so bad that keeping scores lower are hampered by such bad putting surfaces.
RGA is a solid course as always. The conditions overall were pretty good, but the greens were certainly in rougher shape than usual. They had lots of bald spots, pitch marks, blemishes, and rough bumps. Putting at RGA often feels very frustrating as the greens often behave in a seemingly random fashion, and even when you do hit a great putt with the right read, the bumps and rough shape of the greens will make sure to throw your ball offline.
Fixing the quality of the greens and adding in even a simple hitting mat and net station, would really take RGA to the next level.
Not so good
Course was a mess, greens had fungus with many bare spots, tee boxes were very shabby and fairways were fair at best.
SLOW PACE OF PLAY
The course itself is great! Awesome layout and nice staff help overall, but the pace of play was terrible. It felt like they overbooked the course and we suffered for it. We had a group of 3 people and our cart said we were 45+ minutes behind pace, but we couldn’t do anything. There were so many groups in front of us playing terribly slow and we found ourselves waiting 10 to 15 minutes before we even got to hit off each tee box. Or waiting 5 or more minutes between each shot because there were too many people. At one point we hadn’t teed off one of the holes because we were waiting for the people in front of us to go and we still had 4 more carts behind us waiting to go.
Just Disappointing
Staff was very kind but unfortunately this place is a bit of a goat ranch. No real bunkers in play, greens are small and have weeds, course layout is short and uninspired. Pace of play (at 1:00 pm on a Wednesday) was horrid; 3 groups were waiting on the 5th tee box. I had heard decent things but it just isn’t the right spot for me. If you’re new to golf, find a hot deal and come out for a day as it’s a solid place to learn the game. But otherwise, I can’t recommend.
OMG
Me and my friends also play this course on the regular. But unfortunately lately the course is in horrible condition. The layout outstanding. If you try to call and get a tee time they won't answer the telephone the greens and heels crabgrass look like some type of old practice course at this point they really should take the time to improve considering that they're charging almost $40 during the week and 40 plus during the weekend absolutely ridiculous and unacceptable. Please spend the money where it's needed
RGA needs some TLC
The greens were pretty bad. Full of crabgrass, and as a result quite lumpy. The tee boxes were mostly pretty bad also. Often hard to find a decent surface to tee up. And it remains hard for me to understand why there are so many irrigation line breaks all over the place. Lots of areas that are muddy and corded off.
Way better values in RDU
It’s really criminal that RGA charges as much as they do. The greens are some of the worst in the area with weeds and dead spots. Tee boxes are not well maintained. Pitch marks are worse than knights play. It’s not like they have a driving range to also maintain too. It wouldn’t be so bad if it wasn’t $40 a round during the week. Do better
