Wil-Mar Golf Club

Played there Saturday the course was in great condition pace of play was a little slow but I expected It to be for the great price. Each time I play there The course Shows improvement. It seems like every course I'll play the starters are a little grumpy Wil-Mar not excluded

Played Saturday with a 11am tee time. We didn't get to tee off until 11:25 because it was so backed up. Pace of play was the worst I have ever seen. Minimum of 15 minutes waiting per hole on tee boxes. After a 4 hour front 9 we go into the clubhouse to grab some food and drink. We were immediately met with the rudest woman I have seen in hospitality services. It was clear she hated her job and was incredibly rude to us. She claimed we needed to give her all of our food orders at once even though she couldn't handle making 4 hot dogs without asking us how many and what was on each at least 5 times. She threw a massive fit and stormed around like a 5 year old. She verbally accousted our party and was argumentative the entire time. I have never been treated like that ever. We were spending our money at your course you would think that you would want it. And we are all big tippers but not when you treat us like that. We will NEVER come back all because of this woman. I can understand the pace of play but the customer service was inexcusable. Just the worst I have ever seen. If you do go here bring your own food and drink so you don't have to deal with this woman.

This is a nice course that is well taken care of and good value for 18.

However, both times I've played, we've had stack ups at tees of over 3 groups of golfers which makes for a long and slow round. During yesterday's round there was no sign of a ranger till 16 and we were waiting +15min on every hole before we could hit.

Until the course starts spreading tee times properly and moving slow groups along and bringing faster groups through I won't be returning.

This course is great for those who are looking for a casual place to play. It is a good difficulty for any level golfer offering a mix of wide and narrow fairways and good sized greens. It was well kept and groomed nicely. There was a holdup at one point in which I waited about 20 minutes to play a hole. Other than that it was great.

The course was playable and pace of play was very fast. There were about 1/2 of the greens recently top dressed that made the putts bounce all over the place but the other 1/2 were fine. The course is very short from the back tees and on the front 9 you could always hear traffic from I540

Played this course over the past 5 years. It gets better every year. Doing some limited repair to greens but are still very good. Fairways are nice. Pace of play is the only low point, but they do have rangers. Not sure if they ask groups to keep with the ones in front of them, but it can be quite slow on busy days.

Once again good course for value. I got on for 27.00 on Saturday morning. Can't beat that. The course was in good condition. For those who know Wilmar it's a confidence course. Back nine can challenge a little bit. But for the value no complaints here. Pace of play was a little slow....would be only negative.

The course was in great shape for the most part. However, there were two things were a little less than par. The greens are for the most part in great shape. However, on about 7 of the holes there are areas that are being patched (new sod being laid and little aeration). They are also fixing 1-3 tee boxes, but that doesn't take away from the play. Otherwise, this course was great for the price!!!! The fairways are mint, and the management is really putting money back into the course. 4 STARS

Winter was tough on Wil-Mar, but they have been working very hard to get the course back into the condition it normally is in. They have laid sod on just about all the tees that had winter damage. They have also patched and repaired all but one green that had damage. The pro shop attendant said that the last green would be fixed in the next few days along with a few more tee boxes. I am very impressed with how much work they have done in the last few weeks. You can tell they are really trying hard to fix things as quick as possible. The difference now and 4 weeks ago is night and day. The fairways actually came out of the winter better than most courses I have played in the area. If you had a disappointing experience back in April or May I highly suggest you try them again. Also the friendliest staff in the area hands down!

Course was chewed up and much of it was under some sort of repair. One hole was unuseable. The people were very kind, but the course conditions were not worth the price.

Memorial day. The course informed us that one green was being replaced and not playable. OK.

There were at least 4 temporary tee boxes - Taking at least 200 yards off a short course. Most of the tee boxes have no grass at all. teing off was not a pleasure as the ground was very hard and bare,
Surprising, the fairways were ok in most places. did not need to roll the ball at all. Green were just OK but were very un-smooth. several putts would bounce off line. these need to be rolled to smooth them to a very playable level.

Those of us living on the eastern seaboard know the winter past was quite a battle for golf courses in the area. Bermuda turf, whether greens or fairway, took a beating and to this point in time have not fully recovered. The greens staff at Wil-Mar Golf Course are working daily to achieve recovery but things are not up to the level of their desires nor that of their clients. To judge the course conditions is unjust, they are what they are until an appropriate time for recovery is allowed.
I have not played Wil-Mar for a great many years, however the staff and the layout are as enjoyable and friendly as I recall from the last century, when I played there in 1989. A truly nice Carolina layout much as Donald Ross would have created; small, raised, undulating greens guarded by bunkers or water, open fairways and some troubles here and there, not over powering but a challenge all the same.
Some greens are in a state of repair or recovery but for the most part putted well but a bit slow, maybe an eight on the Stimpmeter. The fairways are very playable in almost every case. The golf carts are new and powered by gasoline so they move out quite quickly; get in and hang on, and use those bottles of sand provided to fill your diviots!
(Also, by the way, our group played the entire course, all eighteen holes, how can you not play nine holes if you play eighteen?)
You will happy to know the practice area and driving range are in full operation and the practice putting surfaces at the club house are very good replicas of the greens (especially speed) you will find on the course.
If you are searching for a local golf course that will not 'break the bank' yet challenge you to your highest level of play give Wil-Mar a round or two, I am sure you will find the course and staff welcoming and appreciative of your patronage.

I play here quite often and golf course is always in good shape. The winter was terrible and certain areas show some winter damage, but the staff is aware and is working to repair the damage. All courses that I have played across the area with Bermuda grass have some issues on greens, tees, and fairways.

No Marshalls three groups booked at 3:04 and no one knew to let faster groups thru. People left after nine and we were waiting on 11 tee box. Greens we're rough, maybe from excess foot traffic, slow greens for slow play

Fairways were in excellent condition, but the greens
were not. And a lot of the tee boxes were just sand.

Wife and I decided to play on a Saturday for a change. Course was busy and fairly crowded. Can't help the pace of play with this many. We got paired with a couple of young fellers and we all had a nice time. Only niggle is some of the greens needed attention. A few tricky greens there btw, so beware! Landscaping was nice. Pretty course.

Staff was wonderful. They made the trip!

Played not long ago and course was in decent shape so figured $25 for noon round on a Saturday was solid deal. Nope. Several greens have lost large patches. Tee boxes were some of worst I've ever seen. Might play there again but won't be for several months.

Greens were very inconsistent and hard. This is a decent public course, but for $40 I was expecting better greens and more scenic views. Front nine is wide open and fairly easy, back nine is narrow with lots of trees. Not too much water but there is sand around most greens which makes it more challenging.

Course has dried out and was in good shape. They continued to improved the course over last year.
