Undulating tee boxes
Undulations can make a golf course more interesting and challenging, and this course has its share (the green on #1 especially!). Undulating tee boxes, on the other hand, are simply annoying. This seems like an easy fix, if they cared to do so. Otherwise, a pretty straight forward course with wide fairways.
Poor fairways
Fairways were over seeded and as long as most rough. During wet conditions course played 20-30 yds longer due to high grass in fairway. If overseeing like this occurs every year I would not recommend playing this course in October.
Great design, picked a bad day
We played off of the senior tees and originally wondered why they were so short, nearly 1000 yards less then the whites. Well, the Maples design is great and the elevated and protected greens add effective length. A pleasant variety of holes and maybe only a couple felt jammed in.
The challenge we had was that they had seeded and heavily watered the fairways, so it was cart path only and balls just died in the fairway. Multiple places where you just had to pick up and drop 10 yards away. The necks approaching the elevated greens were treacherous with the extra watering.
My out of town playing partner agreed that I should give it a try again in the future, especially for the price. But not in early October again or after any kind of meaningful rain.
It was cart path only since they had overseeded the fairways. Not a problem. Greens were in good shape but slow. Everything else was great except that the grill was not open and they are famous for their hot dogs. Sure hate I didn't get one.
Where have I been?
First time in over 5 years. The course was like a magic wand had been waved over it. Outstanding tee boxes, fairways that I wanted to lie down in, finest sand traps in the region (3 sand saves) and greens that were fair and true. Please, let's keep it a secret.
Also, thanks to Mr. Bill Ryan for the tour.
Will return
Where have I been?
When I moved to NC , back in 1984, Quail Ridge was my favorite course to play despite being one hour from Carrboro. Since, I moved to Durham and it was even harder to access however, that changed this weekend. It was like a magic wand was passed over it. Staff friendly, magnificent greens, fairways I wanted to sleep in and playing partner ( THANK YOU BilIRYAN) that caddied me and Luke around the course. Will return much more often. Thank you
It's great to be back
Decent course
Apart from the irrigation problems quail ridge is a fantastic course for the money. I’d play there again.
Quail Ridge Review
When I arrived the course was very busy. I was greeted in the club house with friendly staff and they got me on a cart within minutes. I played with another twosome.
The course was beautiful to look at and in wonderful shape. A majority of the greens are elevated but the fairways are open. Greens were rolling fast. Also the greens are very disceveing so read them slowly to make a good putt.
We played in about 3 hours and 45 mins. I would play the course more if it wasn't so far away from me.
New and improved
We have played here many times in the past, but it is so much nicer now. Fairways and greens were beautiful. The rough very challenging. Except for no one wearing masks and having to wait on every hole., it was a nice day. They could use a ranger...
Quail Ridge is a gem
Played Quail Ridge at around 10:00am on a Monday. No one in front or behind us. The course was is great shape. Bermuda fairways and all but one green was in perfect condition. The one green that wasn’t perfect was only off because it didn’t have the perfect green color that the other 17 greens did. The greens rolled true and were great to putt in. Not crazy fast and not slow. Still no rakes for the sand but they were in nice shape and had been well groomed. Nice touch with coolers with water bottles on some of the holes. Can’t recommend this course to you because we want it all to ourselves again tomorrow. haaa.
Great value, nice layout and greens
Really enjoyed this...teed off at 8:15 on Labor Day and was done by 11:30. Greens were in great shape. Nice interesting layout. Restaurant and grill was closed but otherwise very enjoyable morning
First time playing here. I’ll be back!
I was able to grab a GN Hot Deal for Sunday late morning. Staff was friendly. Course was in great condition. Greens are firm and fast with a fair amount of undulation. Played in about 4 hour. A great value with the hot deal, and quite reasonable at the normal rates.
Give it a try if you haven’t played there before!
Quail Ridge 4th time
Quail Ridge course was in excellent shape. The layout is challenging as well as visually interesting. Wide and narrow in places with limited water. Ground crew was busy cutting, after several mowers had been out of service. They was very attentive to golfers and willing to give assessments of course conditions and comments on the summer season. A need to play course if you visiting nearby.
Course is in great shape
1st time here. Quite pleased with the layout since its fairly open for hackers like myself. Cpurse conditions were excellent. They do need to put proper water coolers on the course. Having a standard box cooler filled with chilled water doesn't cut it when youve got guys dipping there bottles or tumblers in it to get water. That water was fairly dirty by the time we played our round. Other than that, we were pretty happy with the place. We'll be back.
