Love this course.
Well maintained. I love playing this course and it’s a great value! There’s no hot food though! Just 2 choices of refrigerated, pre-packaged sandwiches. Our crew was looking forward to some hot dogs at the turn, but left with only a cold turkey & cheese. ;)
c+ course
A good value if you want to work on your game. Don't miss a fairway as the course needs lots of repair
Sanford's hidden gem
Beautiful course that plays very well with friendly staff and a price that anyone can afford.
Borderline hidden gem!
First off, my expectations were very low. I had not heard bad things, per se, but being a muni, well... you know what I'm talking about. That said, driving up to the clubhouse is somewhat underwhelming. The shop is minimalist, but the staff are nice. No grill, but they do have snacks and drinks for sale in the golf shop, including beer. Good prices - I bought 3 beers and a pack of nabs for $8.50. (That's cheaper than Augusta N@tional!!!) I can't comment on the range, since I did not warm up, but I'm sure it's fine. Carts are nice and fairly new. EZ-GO Elite, with windshield and USB charger, but no rain cover for the clubs. Now for the course. Interesting layout, to say the least. The front nine is shorter than average: one par five and none of the par fours are over 400 yards. Some doglegs, minimal bunkers, very much target golf. Driver can run through the fairway on most of the doglegs if not shaped correctly. It was definitely nice having a friend in the group that had played it several times, so he could help with club selection off the tee. Turning to the back nine, the course becomes a little longer, as in 516 yards longer from the back (blue) tees. Granted, par is 36 on the back and 35 on the front, but it's still a significant difference. Only one dogleg par 4, so tee it high and let it fly! The highlight of the back nine is #17. 451 yard par 4. Get you some! Overall, Sanford GC far exceeded my expectations. It's a fair test of golf and for the money, you can't beat it. Oh, I almost forgot to mention the greens. Good grass, old-school bermuda, so a little grainy, but they are TINY! I'm pretty sure they're smaller than the greens at Harbour Town on Hilton Head Island. I think if you hit it in the middle of every green, the longest putt you'd have would be 25 ft. Hitting any of the 18 greens in regulation, feels like an accomplishment. Seriously! Go play it and find out for yourself! You'll enjoy the challenge!
