About
Dan Maples, architect of the nationally acclaimed Pit Golf Links, has created another masterpiece only minutes from the Village of Pinehurst. Longleaf Golf & Family Club was formerly the site of Starland Farms, for years the training ground of some of the country's top thoroughbreds. As a tribute to its colorful history, Maples incorporated some of the features and flavor of the old facility into the golf course, including part of the fence and training track. The front nine at Longleaf was designed in the Scottish open style with subtly rolling fairways.The back nine, in contrast, is heavily tree-lined and dramatically elevated. Ron Whitten of Golf Digest called Longleaf "...the most playable course in Pinehurst."

This Course is overbooked
Very dissatisfied, booked round for 2 and was told that I was being paired up with 2 nine year old players. I was expecting a great round of golf, and in reality did not even hit one ball. Over booked course and the little surprises they do not mention after taking your money.
Enjoyed
Greens and fairways are perfect for the average golfer. Staff does a great job and alot if friendly Hi's.

Would play it again in a heart beat. Enjoyed the whole experience. Just a great day of golf.
US kids are doing great things with this golf course. It's always in great shape. I'll continue to enjoy it!
Course is in excellent shape
Two of us played on a Sunday and the pace of play was a little slow but nothing we didn't expect on a Sunday. Course was in excellent shape and there are seven tee options to play from. Overall it was an enjoyable day.
Excellent round
Great round on a cold and wet day! GPS on carts and lots of tee box options for golfer of every experience. Wish weather was better! Enjoyable at the price we paid.
Nice layout but set up wrong
I'm a 10 HC. Yesterday at LL, the pin locations and green hardness was such that it was virtually impossible to hit approach shots that stayed on the greens, yielding impossible odds on getting up and down once you found your ball 10-20 yards over the back of greens. I counted 7 pins on the front nine within four paces of the back edge of the green, and two front pins. With the greens so hard that lofted 8 irons were bouncing over the green, and pins where a shot or putt 3 feet past the hole was rolling off the green, it was pretty frustrating. It's also a bit strange to have 4 of 5 par 3's play from 190 yards, at least for amateurs attempting to play 6100 yards. The shortest shot I had to a par three was 165 yards.
The sad thing is that the course layout is fairly attractive, and that the place used to be a horse track is apparent from the old railings and 1/8 mile marker pegs, which gives it some charm. But the combination of the green hardness and pin locations was just too much. Just some common sense with respect to the pins could have made the day a lot more enjoyable. As it was, it was basically "silly golf."
Very nice course
Course was excellent. Weather unfortunately sucked, but obviously not the courses fault. Pace of play was fast because it was 45 degrees and raining. Greens were in excellent condition as well as the tee box. Fairways were brown but it’s March. Staff was less than friendly. No one on the course but the guy would not let us go early. Said come back 15 till tee off. All in all it was good. Definitely go back.

US Kids, which you should all Google and become familiar with if you're not already, bought this course a couple of years ago and has done great stuff. The tees, seven in all and many hybrid (combination) options, ,are innovative and encouraging for all.
Couple of funky holes on the front nine, mainly due to routing around housing, on the front nine. Glad the US Kids crew reversed the ninth.

Friendly staff to greet you. The course was in good shape and they had the greens in great shape. Overall good experience.
