Longleaf Golf & Family Club
About
Dan Maples, architect of the nationally acclaimed Pit Golf Links, has created another masterpiece only minutes from the Village of Pinehurst. Longleaf Golf & Family Club was formerly the site of Starland Farms, for years the training ground of some of the country's top thoroughbreds. As a tribute to its colorful history, Maples incorporated some of the features and flavor of the old facility into the golf course, including part of the fence and training track. The front nine at Longleaf was designed in the Scottish open style with subtly rolling fairways. The back nine, in contrast, is heavily tree-lined and dramatically elevated. Ron Whitten of Golf Digest called Longleaf "...the most playable course in Pinehurst."

Galf getaway
Had some time late afternoon so stopped to play an additional 9. friendly pro shop staff and starter. the Bermuda grass is still dormant so we can't say much for the fairway but the greens were excellent.
Road Trip
Clubhouse staff was kind of rude. Course was fun although a little expensive for quality of courses also in the area. Nice layout though.
a real value
a fun challenging course. great value. I had one of my best rounds of the year.
good little course
good course-nice people bu tpre-occupied with training new employee...as often experience with pm play-no ranger and multiple delays on course
Great course. Super fun to play and in great shape
This is not the most difficult course in the sandhills area. In fact, it can be a bit of a confidence booster. But it is pretty, in great shape and terribly enjoyable. The course offers a bit of everything and GolfNow has some great deals on fees. I highly recommend it to anyone in the area.
Excellent value
Could not have asked for a better day. Phenomenal course for the price.
Fun, fair course
Not a long course from white tees....6000 yds but the elevation changes and small greens make up for the distance. Front and back nines very different. The greens were in great condition.....have quite a bit of movement for being on the small side. Par 3's were all challenging.....especially with a one club wind. Great value on a GN Hot Deal.
2 Different Nine's
Played Longleaf on the first day in the Village of Pinehurst. The first thing that you need to realize with all courses in this area, is play the Tee Boxes that suit your game. Once you have decided this, the front Nine plays as a more open and forgiving side, built among an old horse race track with part and furlong poles still visible. Moving to the back nine, be prepared for more elevation changes and narrower tee shots. Still allows for some waywardness off the tee, but you have to pick sides of the fairways to miss. The back nine will challenge. The staff was very friendly and helpful. Burgers were hot and beers were cold post round.
Nice round of golf!
The back nine seemed to be in better shape than the front nine, and the ball washers need a little attention, but the course was still very nice.
Great for the family
Our family enjoys this course as it is good for all levels and ranges of abilities.
Good Course
nice course , driving range , great club house to get a snack or meal
Good
The course was in great condition except for the putting greens a lot of them were bumpy with areas with no grass at all. When I arrived I had to wait on my playing partner and that didn't go over well swith the man at the register checking us in he insisted that I go ahead and pay for both of us even though he hadn't shown up as of yet which I thought was rude. I purchased a coke out if a vending machine for 2.00 that ok thought was a 20oz and came out a 12 oz can coke. A little on the high end side for me at least. Great views on the back 9 though that made up for some of our disappointment. Thanks though for booking it on golf now we saved 20.00 a piece on the round.
Nice starter course for your Pinehurst vacation
Front nine is flat and features the rails from an old race track. Back nine has considerably more character with substantial elevation changes and severe doglegs. Would encourage the course to create a hybrid yardage with its own slope and rating as 6600 yds (blue tees) is too long for most golfers and 6000 yds (white tees) is too short. We created our own by playing all the par 4s from the blues and par 3s and 5s from the whites; worked well for us. Although the greens were recently aerated, they were receptive and playable. Staff was friendly.
Fun Course
Fun course to play. Fairly open, but OB is in play on a few holes. #14 is a bit silly but different (don't try to cut the corners). Greens were bent grass and were in OK shape, rolled slower than I'm used to but didn't expect otherwise when playing in August. Overall good experience, friendly staff. Solid warm-up course if you are taking a golf trip to Pinehurse.
Our favorite course
We had an early tee time - and were able to play without any waiting all 18 - and finished just shy of 4 hours. Course is in excellent shape.
Great course
Staff is always friendly and very helpful. Golf course is always in decent shape and is a really nice track!
Course ok for the money
The course was in decent shadow but had multiple bare spots even around the greens. The greens were cut high (no doubt due to the summer heat) and therefore were inconsistent in feel. The clubhouse staff were very friendly. Overall a good experience but the course could use some addressing.
like the course but Greens?
I played this course a lot. When the greens are in good shape, its greens are great, fast and predictable breaks. But right now I cannot say that. Some Greens are bumpy, spotty, and all are slow. The course itself is in decent shape for a public facility.
This could be a great course.
The greens and fringe were in good shape; however, the fairway on most holes was weedy and in many places bare. This course desperately needs water.
