Longleaf Golf & Family Club
About
Dan Maples, architect of the nationally acclaimed Pit Golf Links, has created another masterpiece only minutes from the Village of Pinehurst. Longleaf Golf & Family Club was formerly the site of Starland Farms, for years the training ground of some of the country's top thoroughbreds. As a tribute to its colorful history, Maples incorporated some of the features and flavor of the old facility into the golf course, including part of the fence and training track. The front nine at Longleaf was designed in the Scottish open style with subtly rolling fairways. The back nine, in contrast, is heavily tree-lined and dramatically elevated. Ron Whitten of Golf Digest called Longleaf "...the most playable course in Pinehurst."

Longleaf Review
The course was in good shape. The back nine was a bit more challenging, but both nines were fine. Green were in good condition.
Typical Sandhills course.... back 9 more hilly terrain. Good Value
Course was in summer condition in Pinehurst Area. Front 9 plays thru old horse farm w race track and fencing still visible in places.
Greens were rough because of recent aeration but would be very good in season I believe. Most courses in area were punching greens or just completed. Longleaf uses the smaller holes for this task. Overall, a great value for $30. I played just before noon with a local and had a great time. Back 9 more terrain variation.
Great value. Decent course.
It's a decent course, on the low end for the area for sure but a great value. The greens were a bit poor, but it was raining the few days before. Very slow and some weeds that had been mowed over, resulting in some oddly inconsistent putts. Only other complaint was the bartender/snack window girl was really rude. It's the second time I've played here, both with different people and each time my playing partners mentioned her rudeness to me unprompted. That's obviously a very minor point for a golf course but just think it should be said.
Great course and great value!
Wide open on the front 9 with a wooden back 9. Some challenging holes (#14 par 5 is pretty tricky). Great rate on Golfnow. Club house is beautiful and staff is super friendly. Will definitely keep playing here!
Good course for mid & high handicaps
I've played this course several times and staff has always been friendly and accommodating, It is a good course for mid and high handicappers, challenging but not punishing. Course has always been in good condition and greens are decent, but a little slow.
Nice day for a couple in the course.
Wife and I played a noon round, no one pushing or delaying us. (GolfNow rate very good) Open fairways, nice greens, although cut longer then expected, a bit slow. Recommend spending some time on the practive green. Don't plan to walk, it's a long distance between some holes. Forward tees get a good advantage "lady friendly". Head over to Pinehurst Village for dinner.
Beautiful fairways.
The fairways were well maintained and the ball sat up beautifully. The greens did not really fit. Not sure what is going on with the greens. They had some wild grass growing up in them. We have seen this on several courses this summer. They were playable but not fast. We will return.
friendly layout
course was in fairly good condition
greens were a little slow - could have been mowed to be more consistent
Greens were atrocious - had not been mowed recently - very slow. Pace of play glacial - no Marshall on the course, no refreshment cart.
Atrocious greens - very slow, pace of play ridiculously slow, no golf etiquette from other golfers
Great layout
I was definitely pleased with this course, challenging but you can definitely shoot a good score at this course
This course was average for the area
Course in average shape overall, greens could use some extra attention. Worth playing with a deal through Golf Now, but not worth the regular rates.
A very playable course for a great rate and the GolfNow service was excellent
I planned a day of golf for my son's birthday, drove to the Pinehurst area from Raleigh, to play Longleaf CC and we had a great time. Had originally tried to secure a tee time at Southern Pines GC but they were full according to the website. GolfNow contacted Southern PInes, unbeknownst to me, about the tee time issue and I received a call from Southern Pines about a glitch and they'd be happy to book the time and give me the GolfNow price. Unfortunately, I had already booked at another course in the area. Longleaf was very accomodating and the course was very fair and in very good condition. Great Service!!
Course has excellent layout
Did not play well, but that did not mean the course was at fault.
Each hole was distinctive in its own way. Distance was fair and overall conditions though dry, was good. Of course, the greens do need a little work, but that again takes time and patience. I'm sure you know how S-L-O-W the greens are!!!!!
I will tell friends and golfers about your hospitality and the way you treated an out- of- towner and made my day, even if you didn't help me score better. I will return in the future. Thanks for a great day of golf.
the course is in great shape
Have played Longleaf many times and it has never been in better shape.Golf Now is such a great value looking forward to playing alot more golf!
very playable
Longleaf is a very nice course and was very playable. The course has open fairways & room to drive it but is challenging as well. It also gives a nice advantage for women from the green tees. It was in very nice condition but the greens were a little slow. Well maintained but slow.
Layout of course is fantastic.
This is the fourth time in the past 2 months that I have played this course. Each time, not only I have gotten better, but the course has been receiving extreme care in maintaining its condition.
The staff goes out of its way to make sure you have a great time during your round. I do recommend this course to other players; not only for its layout, but also for its location.
Great course.
I really enjoyed LongLeaf. Early PM start time on a Saturday and the course was nearly empty. Superfast pace of play - just under 3 hours. Greens were in excellent condition. Lots of rain lately so the course was wet but still very playable and of course the greens were a bit slow. Well maintained course. I will play here again in the future.
The only negative was my father-in-law who road along with me had to pay $15 just to ride the back nine (he met me at the course after I made the turn). I think that is a bit steep just for a 9-hole ride-along.
The course was in excellent condition. Beautiful!
The only negative was that my son and I were behind two super slow foursomes. Play was very slow, so much so that we skipped 10, 11 and 12 to avoid playing a six hour round. Rangers enforcing pace of play would be welcomed.
One of our favorite courses in the Pinehurst area.
The course is interesting as the front is more open and the back nine is more hilly and much tighter.
