Longleaf Golf & Family Club
About
Dan Maples, architect of the nationally acclaimed Pit Golf Links, has created another masterpiece only minutes from the Village of Pinehurst. Longleaf Golf & Family Club was formerly the site of Starland Farms, for years the training ground of some of the country's top thoroughbreds. As a tribute to its colorful history, Maples incorporated some of the features and flavor of the old facility into the golf course, including part of the fence and training track. The front nine at Longleaf was designed in the Scottish open style with subtly rolling fairways. The back nine, in contrast, is heavily tree-lined and dramatically elevated. Ron Whitten of Golf Digest called Longleaf "...the most playable course in Pinehurst."

A very playable course for a great rate and the GolfNow service was excellent
I planned a day of golf for my son's birthday, drove to the Pinehurst area from Raleigh, to play Longleaf CC and we had a great time. Had originally tried to secure a tee time at Southern Pines GC but they were full according to the website. GolfNow contacted Southern PInes, unbeknownst to me, about the tee time issue and I received a call from Southern Pines about a glitch and they'd be happy to book the time and give me the GolfNow price. Unfortunately, I had already booked at another course in the area. Longleaf was very accomodating and the course was very fair and in very good condition. Great Service!!
Course has excellent layout
Did not play well, but that did not mean the course was at fault.
Each hole was distinctive in its own way. Distance was fair and overall conditions though dry, was good. Of course, the greens do need a little work, but that again takes time and patience. I'm sure you know how S-L-O-W the greens are!!!!!
I will tell friends and golfers about your hospitality and the way you treated an out- of- towner and made my day, even if you didn't help me score better. I will return in the future. Thanks for a great day of golf.
the course is in great shape
Have played Longleaf many times and it has never been in better shape.Golf Now is such a great value looking forward to playing alot more golf!
very playable
Longleaf is a very nice course and was very playable. The course has open fairways & room to drive it but is challenging as well. It also gives a nice advantage for women from the green tees. It was in very nice condition but the greens were a little slow. Well maintained but slow.
Layout of course is fantastic.
This is the fourth time in the past 2 months that I have played this course. Each time, not only I have gotten better, but the course has been receiving extreme care in maintaining its condition.
The staff goes out of its way to make sure you have a great time during your round. I do recommend this course to other players; not only for its layout, but also for its location.
Great course.
I really enjoyed LongLeaf. Early PM start time on a Saturday and the course was nearly empty. Superfast pace of play - just under 3 hours. Greens were in excellent condition. Lots of rain lately so the course was wet but still very playable and of course the greens were a bit slow. Well maintained course. I will play here again in the future.
The only negative was my father-in-law who road along with me had to pay $15 just to ride the back nine (he met me at the course after I made the turn). I think that is a bit steep just for a 9-hole ride-along.
The course was in excellent condition. Beautiful!
The only negative was that my son and I were behind two super slow foursomes. Play was very slow, so much so that we skipped 10, 11 and 12 to avoid playing a six hour round. Rangers enforcing pace of play would be welcomed.
One of our favorite courses in the Pinehurst area.
The course is interesting as the front is more open and the back nine is more hilly and much tighter.
OK value in Pinehurst, really slow greens
Maintenance is OK here, the tees and fairways are well kept and even but some of the slowest greens I've encountered outside of the most basic munis. This old horse farm is sort of interesting as land and has these various posts where you can imagine the thoroughbreds trained but the course itself is not really that interesting. It's an OK warm up for some other Pinehurst area courses of note, not a highlight.
Very Good Value
Firs time playing Longleaf and had a great time. The course layout is fantastic. The greens appeared to have been aerated a few weeks ago and were making their way back very nicely. Tee boxes and fairways are well maintained. I spent some time hitting out of bunkers during my round and was able to get up-and-down with no trouble thanks to their condition.
We had an early morning tee-time; had the course to ourselves for the complete front nine. As we made the turn, no one at the snack bar.
Overall, Longleaf is a very good value, and I'm looking forward to playing it again.
Great potential - Poor execution
I've been playing this course on and off for 15 years because my parents live on the course. When they first moved in it was amazingly well maintained and an enjoyable layout especially for those who prefer open designs. Now if feels like the course is going through the motions with mediocre maintainence. Great golf now specials for seniors but not for those under 60 which promotes slow play but I suppose this is their preferred demographic. I tried to replay following my round but was quoted a price 2x more than I originally paid to play the first round. I did not replay due to this and they missed an easy add on sale.
A good warm-up Round
A good course to warm up on when heading down to pinehurst area for a week or so. Not to difficult. greens were good and crowned. A little furry the day i played.
Staff was very helpful and course was in good shape.
This was my first time playing Longleaf and will return. Front 9 versus the Back 9 are totally different, which lends it's appeal to me. The front is typical Carolina golf, other than having the holes run through the old horse racing track from years ago where there are certain fences still standing. The back features a number of hills, water and 3 par 3's, very unusual but provides good scoring opportunities. Greens were in good shape and ran true although tricky. Four out of five stars!!
Good Value and fast play
Went out with my daughter last Tuesday afternoon and had a great time. The greens were in very good shape but were a bit long and slow. Fairways, traps and tees were also in good to very good shape. There weren't a lot of players out so the pace of play was what ever we wanted it to be. I've played Long Leaf many times and its always a solid course in good to very good shape. Green fees were only $20 each with GolfNow so the value was excellent.
Greens outstanding, front 9 very forgiving
Nice and pleasurable day". Back nine has good definition with front nine open.i
Nice variety if holes and terrain
This is an enjoyable course and they are getting into good shape for the season
Beautiful course/Well Maintained
This course is a real joy to play. Fairways are generous, however there a many sand traps to avoid. Since there has been a few recent rains, the greens were a bit slow. The entire staff was super friendly and informative. The azaleas were in full bloom today, which added to the pleasure of our round. I will definitely return to play this beauty in the near future.
Nice Course
Always paly this course when we come to Pinehurst. Front nine fairly flat; back nine more challenging. Look for discounts online as rack rate is pricey.
This is a very nice course, front nine straight forward, back nine tricky
Very nice course and great staff, would recommend playing and will play again.
Was a horse track
Mostly flat. Well kept. Nice choice for lunch. Has some homes skirting fairways, so ability to hit straight a plus.
