The 500 Club
About
The 500 Club (formerly known as Fox Den Country Club and Larkin Golf Club) is a premier entertainment destination for the Lake Norman region. This relaxed club with NASCAR roots provides a laid-back experience, quick pace of play, and plenty of entertainment to make it a destination. World-ranked Head Golf Professional and Assistant Professional offer private and group lessons and clinics. While the course is on the shorter side, the elevation changes and native grass areas make it challenging and strategic. Pace of play is the focus in every round so pick your tees by average driving distance, use the drop zones if needed, and play "Ready Golf" to keep your round moving. Starters, Rangers, and the Pro Shop staff will keep you well informed on any tips that might be useful for the day.

First time playing
The course was in excellent condition, even for early July. There are well placed bunkers but overall not a difficult course.
Larkin slow play and lack of driving range dampens a great course layout and very good condition
Lack of a legit practice area and often slow play makes Larkin less of a mainstay than it could be. I love the layout and variety of holes. In fact I would make the argument it has one of the best layouts in the area for a public course.
There are two things that really take away from the experience. The fist is the lack of any sort of driving range, small putting area and generally deficient practice facility. The other, common to many of the areas public course is rounds taking more than 4 1/2 hrs.
Hmm
Poor yardage markets - some sand traps need work - if your first time playing here you should probably have someone in the group that has - a few blind shots - also INMO good course manage is key here as this course at times plays like a links course- had a great time and would play it again - I’m a senior player with a true 17 handicap- usually play white tees
Poor customer service
Very rude and poor customer service. The pro shop staff seem to hate their job and the cart attendants don’t show any customer service the past few times. You get your own cart and drop your cart off. If the staff was better would have great review because is great shape but not planning to give them any more business
Such a beautiful track... going in the wrong direction.
Not much to the clubhouse, there is no practice range to speak of, and sometimes you have to wait for a cart. No starter or ranger to keep pace of play on track. The people are really friendly! It was a good bargain when you could find it for a “Hot Deal” but harder to find those and it’s not in the condition to fetch their rack rate. It is a shame because the layout is pretty cool with piedmont, lowlands and mountain holes all in the same course. However, the conditions seem to get worse each time we return. Sorry to see it happening.
Good time
I hesitate given this a great review only because I don't want the rates to increase. Smile
Great course great layout and staff was very friendly. It was memorial Day weekend so the pace was very slow.
Great Local Course
Larkin I’d a great spot to play. Funny that they’d just sanded the greens bud I shot 79 and putted the best ever. Wish we’d known before we booked the tee time but the course was still in great condition.
