Try A Round at Larkin
Course is in very good condition overall. The greens are some of the best around for a public course. They hold an approach shot well and putt very smoothly. There is a nice mix of fairly easy and moderately difficult holes. Numbers 5 and 6 can wreck your scorecard if you aren't careful. Number 9 is a great challenge. 17 gives you a possible eagle from the white tees. Staff is very friendly. If you pay attention to directions, you won't have any problems navigating the housing construction areas.
Priced right for condition
Fairways, rough and bunkers are in rough shape compared to other courses in the area. Paid $33 for early Sunday. Disappointing the one group ahead didn’t fix any ball marks or rake their sand. The snack bar consists of candy, nabs and drinks they no longer have a grill. Signage for 1 and 10 tee poorly marked. Also #10 is a blind tee shot with no guidance of what/where to hit. #11 no guidance of how to play form the left of the cart path. Is it a lateral hazard? OB? Free drop?
Give them a little time
Positives first
* The staff is very friendly.
* The layout is pretty good. Lots of risk reward shots. Plenty of tee boxes for varying skill levels.
* The condition was good compared to other local courses in the same price range.
* Clubhouse was nice and equipment (carts etc) were in good repair
Negatives
* LOUD LOUD LOUD they’re completely redoing the entire landscape with streets and streets of new houses. While it only directly impacted a few holes of the course, it seemed we were literally playing in a construction zone. I’m not a big fan of “neighborhood courses”, I think when the construction is done it’ll be a really nice place to play.
* Totally not the courses fault, but I was behind a threesome that was behind a foursome. Since I was al single I just settled in for a slow nine (both groups in front of me only played the front). The three jacka$$es behind me seemed to think that hitting into me on three occasions was the answer. I spoke with a course ranger and it didn’t happen again.
Would have been great to know greens aerrated in past week. Also would have been great to know back nine is not normal and under construction prior to reserving tee times.
Glad I Tried It but Likely Won't Be Back
Had been wanting to play this course for a couple of years but was waiting until all 18 holes were open. Finally got out on 3/31/19.
The course layout was interesting - especially after the 3rd hole. As other reviewers mentioned, the greens were still trying to recover from aeration and seemed to have more sand on them than other greens that I have played after aeration. Time should fix this.
There's a lot of home development construction that affects holes 10 - 12 and to a lesser extent 15-16. Biggest impacts are actual changes to the playable course on holes 10 and 11.
I read recent Golf Advisor reviews so wasn't surprised by any of this -- but I sure would have been if I hadn't read ahead. The dude in the pro shop didn't say a peep to me about any of these conditions -- and there was not a soul in there other than he and I. Pretty shabby.
I would also recommend a little better signage, even if temporary, to help first-timers navigate around the construction related detours.
Overall, a decent outing on a decent track, but I came and I saw -- and given the multitude of other options - I likely won't be back again.
Hi Steven, thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. We're sorry to hear your round with us was anything short of 5-stars. We hope this doesn't deter you from returning for another round soon. Thanks for playing Larkin Golf Club!
Poor greens
Upon arriving at the course I noticed that the greens were all covered in sand. I wanted to cancel my reservation, since I had not been told or knew that the greens were being worked on. I've played this course multiple times and I really enjoy the layout. However, I was told that I would be unable to cancel my reservation and would have to play.
Hello, thanks for taking the time to leave us a review. We apologize that you weren't informed that we had aerated the greens prior to your round. We appreciate your patience during this process and hope you consider returning for another round soon. Thanks for playing!
Disappointing
Website needs to be revised. It said there was a full driving range, there wasn’t. It said that hole 10 was open. The person checking us in acted anoyed that I even questioned what was on the website. What they didn’t say was that both 10 and 11 have been shortened. With all the home construction the course looks like a war zone. All that and it was cartpath only. I’ll never understand why course don’t offer a “cartpath only” discount. I probably would have logged less steps if I’d have walked the course. Won’t be back!
Great Shape
Course is in really good condition...especially considering the weather we have had.
Thank you for your 5-star rating! Book another round with us soon.
Good value and good courses conditions.
Course was very wet from night before therefore was cart path only, which was expected. However course was overall in good conditions, especially the greens for the time of year. Greens were smooth and fairly quick.
There is a lot of home construction occurring adjacent to the course. Holes 10&11 were shortened due to construction and there is a long gravel path between holes 11&12. However I found the course enjoyable to play with a good variety of holes. Only disappointments are that the course doesn’t have a full length driving range; they have a short “wedge range” but it was closed due to rain, and they didn’t have any food options beyond chips and snacks. However I would recommend playing the layout.

This course has massive potential
Played this course in the middle of winter, very good value for money.
The course has a challenging layout and will definitely be back.
Short term improvements would be better signage for holes 10 and 11.

Course in good shape for this time of the year
We've had a lot of rain lately so there were a lot of swampy areas in the fairways but that's to be expected. Greens were in good shape. Construction in the development makes it a bit of a challenge navigating to some of the holes but not that big of a deal. Always one of my favorite courses in the area to play.

One of the best courses in the area
Great layout, course in really good shape for this time of the year. Construction makes it a bit of an adventure getting from hole to hole in some spots but not really a big deal.
Thanks for the great review, Frank! Book another round with us soon. #LarkinGC
The course was in very good shape even with the recent rain. The greens are in great shape.

Building new homes makes for a long ride on some holes.

Too Much House Construction on Back Side
The tee boxes are great, greens are great, fairways are great. The only issue now is on the back side where they are building homes almost right on the course. There are giant mud hills that are being graded for homes. Hole 10 is still shortened to a par 3, supposed to play as a par 4. Hole 11 is shortened to a 300 yard par 4, originally played as a par 5. With where they are building houses on hole 11 I am not sure if they can ever turn it back into a par 5 because balls would be driven right into those houses playing as a par 5. Hole 16 which is a beautiful hole now has a hug mud hill next to it where they are putting a home right next to it. Don't get me wrong I like playing the course but it is just ashamed to see all the mess on the back side next to the holes and fairways.
My favorite course in the area
Played here about a dozen times. Great layout & always well maintained. The construction going on there around some of the holes makes for an interesting ride but I'm sure it will be even nicer than it is now when complete.
Thanks for the great review, Frank! We hope to see you again for another round soon. #LarkinGolfClub
Do Not Play Here!
Before the “improvements” this was our favorite course! We anxiously awaited the reopening of all the holes....but didnt want to play until this happened!
The conditions were heartbreaking! Its a maze of a course squeezed into the front an back yards of an over crowded housing development!
The once scenic view is now as far as u can see homes everywhere u look!
We were even once ran off a tee box because it was so close to a green where sprinklers had just been set off!
Just unbelievable the turn this once specular course has taken! I realize that it is still a work in progress, but if by improvements u mean, how many houses can u possible surround a golf course with, then they can keep them!
We will NOT be returning!
