Greens recently punched
Very disappointed that Golfnow/Larkin didn't make it known on their website that the greens had been recently aerated. Most courses these days punch smaller holes and do a good job filling w/ sand. Larkin unfortunately is not one of them. Even though it appears the greens were punched 10 days ago or so, they are unputtable - soft, slow and large holes that cause every putt to go off-course. If it had been advertised, we would have played elsewhere, as it's later than normal to be healing greens. They did charge $5 less because of conditions, but I'd have liked to make an informed decision. They probably need another good 10 days to heal.
Also, the bermuda rough is out of control. If you're two yards off the fairway - good luck finding and then playing your ball. This is not only frustrating, but a major problem for pace of play, as some people tend to not understand golf etiquette. I understand losing balls is costly when they should clearly be in play, but it is what it is when the course lets rough get way too hairy.
Staff here is awesome and it's general a good value, with some nice holes, however, I'll just avoid it until the frost starts hitting and the rough subsides and the greens heal.
Best greens around, need to mow the rough down
Tremendous value for the price point. Construction still going on but you won't even notice it. Great fairways, great greens. They need to mow the 4 inch rough down because you'll lose you're ball if you don't hit the fairway...but a lot of rain the past week is probably the reason for that.
Great Greens
The stuff golfers love. Great greens, and fast pace of play. Aside from neighborhood construction and fairway construction it’s clearly a neat little place. Took the trip from Charlotte and will go back.
Good day on the course
Course is in very good condition. Greens roll true. Rough is thick and can be difficult. Friendly staff. Will play again.
Too much going on
Some of my friends played here and while they didn’t recommend this they never talked much about it. I got one tell on course playability from one person outside the pro shop, another from the person in the pro shop and yet another from the starter. A lot of construction around the back nine took bunches away from this place. Playing behind a sixem that was in full view of the starter/ Marshall and him doing nothing about it doesn’t help my opinion. Most putting greens were in good shape but mowing rough at three inches on a public course shows really poor judgement. Searching for balls when a fairway is missed only slows down play. Don’t think I will be returning any way soon, maybe never.
Perfect grass
I was surprised to find both the fairways and greens in immaculate condition after many courses were suffering from winter kill.
Great challenge
A few holes need to be addressed to keep play moving
Fantastic!
Excellent golf experience! How have they maintained fantastic course conditions in this heat and mini drought? Tee to green phenomenal!
Only thing I can think of is only from a personal standpoint. I like faster greens, but they rolled true throughout. Just slow. And my approach shots missed the green several times, and I paid a price by having to chip out of very thick rough. Miss fairways or greens, and this course bites back. In a way, that’s good for them, it’s as it should be.
Best value in the piedmont! Make the drive!
Pace of Play
Ridiculous pace of play. There were “Rangers” driving around, but not sure what they were doing. It wasn’t uncommon to see 7 groups bogged up on 3 holes. It was clear who the offenders were. 5:10 isn’t acceptable on a hot Friday morning. Tees and fairways were good. Rough is way too long for the quality of player. You lose balls easily around the green and just off the fairway. Greens are slowww and furry. Hate when a course waters them in the middle of the day while you’re playing.
Overall, solid value for the money, but i won’t be back if i experience another 5+ Hour round.
One of the best courses in the area
Playing on the 4th I assumed the pace would be slow. 4 hours & 45 minutes to play 18....About 45 minutes high of an average round. Got behind a slow 4-some who were having a tough time on most holes. The construction in there is a bit of an inconvenience. But, I'm sure when it's done this will be one of the elite courses in the area. It's pretty darn good right now but I'm sure will be better. Jonathan at the club house desk is always awesome to deal with.
Larkin good value
The course is a great value always in great shape and very interesting holes with different tee boxes can be challenging for levels of golfers
Slow play NO Rangers
The course is in good shape a lot of house construction makes the 10 and 11th play one stroke under because of pin position ...No rangers meant a slow group had the right to just take those time and hold up the group in front of me and eventually after 3 hours and not even close to being done we left there was no end in sight ...Also. This course is not for beginners and that’s the problem they should try to make reconfigure the front to make the par five I believe it’s hole five more playable so people don’t spend 20 minutes playing it
Great
It's going to be one of the best courses in the area very soon if not already.
Excellent staff !!!
Great day for golf but very slow pace on back 9
Had a 4:30 tee time & didn't finish until almost 9:00!! Got behind two 4-somes & a 3-some with one of the 4-somes playing a terribly slow pace. Back 9 took almost 3 hours to finish!!! No marshals or anyone from the course were ever present to monitor pace of play.
Good condition but.....
No10 par4 & No11 par5 all tee boxes closed.
Make us play par 3 & par4 that’s so disappointed.
And still on construction.
I think this course will be good next season.
Outstanding conditions, great customer service.
Never disappointed with the course! Back to back to back cart path only on front nine due to severe elevation changes are tough but unavoidable.
Always a great day!
