Fox Den
This is a very nice course and would love to play it in June or Sept/Oct, when the grass is green and the greens haven't been aerated. It is a challenge with the elevation changes and the uneven lies.
Hilly and challenging
We played this course early in the morning. The green had just been punched and the fair way were dry but because of the time of the year, the grass was light brown which make it difficult to find the ball. I would love, and most likely will, play this course again.
Ejoyed Coming Back
We have always played this course on our yearly golf hiatus to the Statesville/Greensboro area and the course today was great as usual. Weather was in the mid 80's, and although greens were aerated they didn't putt that bad with the sand covered over.
Most courses advise in advance they are doing course maintenance but all in all it was a great round. Good mixture of challenges throughout the day. Always will make it a stop in our golf travels.
opps you forget to tell me.
call to see if they were accepting GolfNow rates. They didn't tell us that they had just plugged and sanded the greens.that same day. Makes for interesting putting.
February at Fox Den
Course was in good shape for February. Greens were surprisingly in really good shape. Defiantly cannot wait until this course greens up.
The Back Nine
Although the front nine had several challenging holes, driving over ravines, after you finish 11 and head to the bottom of the course be sure you have extra balls, water hazards abound.
Course is well maintained
Great greens, tight fairways
Holes 3 and 4 play along a road making the tee shot seem tighter, OB on the right.
5th is a par 5 with two sections. second shot is across a ravine to a fairway with small landing areas.
This is a well maintained course with one glaring problem. The rough is extremely thick and mowed to at least 3.5". I lost 4 balls in this stuff. It slows the pace of play and leads to penalty strokes not deserved. Until the rough situation is rectified, I will play elsewhere.
This course has some challenging uphill shots
On the first 9 holes there's houses so no hooking the ball. All the grass had turned lite brown so had to keep my eye on the ball a little more but overall i could find the ball. The greens was great and you had to read them cause they was challenging and rolled fast.
nice course for the money
They had let a threesome check in as our foursome. I showed id and a conformation sheet. We we're allowed to play without any problem. We caught the threesome mentioned above at the turn and they played way too slow.
Nice course to play.
Course has a good variety of challenges and the greens are in good shape...
Great Condition and Price
I had never played there before and was presently surprised! It was fun and challenging.
Very nice course! Very nice layout!
This course is very nice to the naked eye, the front is very pretty and fun, the greens are great, much better than most , we loved the changing elevation levels, it's very mountainous like and with the nice stiff winds of fall, you will have to shape your shots. I really enjoyed my first time playing here, my buddy and I liked it so much we played 36 back to back. I'll be back for sure! Thanks Fox Den!
Saturday play
Course in good shape. Greens consistant, greens sticky even from close-in. No barespots, thick rough (ball will sit down). Ranger making the rounds but took 4 3/4 hr to play which is ok for a Saturday.
Greens are really good. Great lay out.
This is great course. It's very challenging for me. I shoot 95. Greens are in great shape. I'm not comparing it to trump or Irish hills. If you compare it to any course on Carolina trail it is 10 times better. My only problem is some of the people playing need to respect how nice they are trying to keep greens and fix their divots.
FOX DEN
The golf course was in really nice shape, if you got your ball out of the fairway it was really difficult to locate and hard to hit out of. The greens were in great shape. Will play it again, soon!
this course has great features
would recommend this course to my friends, have played this course numerous time and will continue
Play was slow and Pro Shop staff not helpful
Played on a Saturday midday. Got to the course and the parking lot was packed (first red flag). Had to park in an overflow lot. Checked in and pro shop guy stated we needed to wait for a cart even though 2 carts were sitting outside (2nd red flag). He also provided no info on the course or what was going on. I go back in to pro shop after 20 minutes to get a cart key and he acts like he had never seen me before.
Go to 1st tee and it is backed up. The starter was friendly but told us the pro booked a tournament but didn't put it on the tee sheet (3rd red flag). Why didn't the pro shop guy mention this and offer us a raincheck? What proceeded after that was a 3 hour brutal 9 holes where we waited on each tee and amost every shot. On one tee box we could see 5 groups on 2 holes. After the front 9 we went to the 10th tee and it looked like more of the same slow play so we decided to loop back to #1 and played the front 9 a second time in under 2 hours.
The course was in pretty good shape but the rough was very brutal. I was not in any bunkers but my partner was in one and it was hard as a rock. There are a couple of unfair holes on the front 9 where if you did not carry to an elevated level you were in the rough even if you hit a straight shot. This seems a little unfair, why not make the area a fairway? There was also a par 5 where if you didn't hit a perfect 2nd shot you would run up to a hill that had heavy rough (again seemed a bit unfair).
I am from the Charlotte area and will not be returning to this place.
Great course
Fantastic layout. Really good shape. Staff very nice. Challenging layout with good sized fairly flat greens to make up for the difficulty of the layout. Course in great shape all around. As an assistant golf professional myself down in Florida I will recommend this course to anyone who will be in the area. It was a great time.
Rough rough
The course at times did not appear difficult but it had the slowest rough I have played.
