The 500 Club (formerly known as Fox Den Country Club and Larkin Golf Club) is a premier entertainment destination for the Lake Norman region. This relaxed club with NASCAR roots provides a laid-back experience, quick pace of play, and plenty of entertainment to make it a destination. World-ranked Head Golf Professional and Assistant Professional offer private and group lessons and clinics. While the course is on the shorter side, the elevation changes and native grass areas make it challenging and strategic. Pace of play is the focus in every round so pick your tees by average driving distance, use the drop zones if needed, and play "Ready Golf" to keep your round moving. Starters, Rangers, and the Pro Shop staff will keep you well informed on any tips that might be useful for the day.

Fox Den renamed to Larkin Golf Club, it's still a cow pasture

That should have remained farm land. There's not enough grass or decent turf below what will grow to enjoy a round of golf until you reach the back 9 hole 12 and beyond when you finally get some grass growing.

The course is so hilly and exposed that grass can't grow naturally and the maintenance budget does not seem to be there to grow it by force. The front 9 is so hilly that it's just not fun to play even if it had grass I'd suspect it'd be equally not interesting.

It's just another representation of why public golf in the North Charlotte area is so poor. There is not a quality public accessible golf facility short of Rock Barn that is not fully private North of Charlotte. The rest are no better than this one which is simply not good.

Women's Tees Challenging

First 4 holes nice and laid out well. Then it becomes difficult yo find a target off tee and 2nd shot. Side hill and uphill all the way on a par 5 over a creek and next to a creek. My friend had trouble physically getting in and out of the cart. Some tee shots directly drill you into a hill with a buried blind side hill and uphill shot. Pretty unfair. Hole 10 requires two perfect shots at the limit of many womens yardages with a huge forced carry over water on the 2nd. No reasonable layup available.

Always a great showing

Despite the transitions at FD, the price, course condition, and staff hospitality is second to none. I play this course multiple times throughout the year and will continue to do so. There are few courses in the area that have as much to offer. The only complaint I have would be the range. It's down hill and very hard to gauge the distance and accuracy of shots. Also, range balls are pricey. But you certainly don't come to FD for the range. The course is wonderful and I look forward to play here again soon.

Cheap and Fun

I played 9 holes as a single and it was a perfect day. On a Saturday around lunch time i didn't expect the PoP to be fast, but only one threesome group was holding up about 6 groups behind me. Overall course was in good condition. Greens had been recently plugged and i didnt expect any long putts to drop... B-

Fox Den

This is a very nice course and would love to play it in June or Sept/Oct, when the grass is green and the greens haven't been aerated. It is a challenge with the elevation changes and the uneven lies.

Hilly and challenging

We played this course early in the morning. The green had just been punched and the fair way were dry but because of the time of the year, the grass was light brown which make it difficult to find the ball. I would love, and most likely will, play this course again.

Ejoyed Coming Back

We have always played this course on our yearly golf hiatus to the Statesville/Greensboro area and the course today was great as usual. Weather was in the mid 80's, and although greens were aerated they didn't putt that bad with the sand covered over.

Most courses advise in advance they are doing course maintenance but all in all it was a great round. Good mixture of challenges throughout the day. Always will make it a stop in our golf travels.

The Back Nine

Although the front nine had several challenging holes, driving over ravines, after you finish 11 and head to the bottom of the course be sure you have extra balls, water hazards abound.

Course is well maintained

Great greens, tight fairways
Holes 3 and 4 play along a road making the tee shot seem tighter, OB on the right.
5th is a par 5 with two sections. second shot is across a ravine to a fairway with small landing areas.
This is a well maintained course with one glaring problem. The rough is extremely thick and mowed to at least 3.5". I lost 4 balls in this stuff. It slows the pace of play and leads to penalty strokes not deserved. Until the rough situation is rectified, I will play elsewhere.

This course has some challenging uphill shots

On the first 9 holes there's houses so no hooking the ball. All the grass had turned lite brown so had to keep my eye on the ball a little more but overall i could find the ball. The greens was great and you had to read them cause they was challenging and rolled fast.

nice course for the money

They had let a threesome check in as our foursome. I showed id and a conformation sheet. We we're allowed to play without any problem. We caught the threesome mentioned above at the turn and they played way too slow.

Very nice course! Very nice layout!

This course is very nice to the naked eye, the front is very pretty and fun, the greens are great, much better than most , we loved the changing elevation levels, it's very mountainous like and with the nice stiff winds of fall, you will have to shape your shots. I really enjoyed my first time playing here, my buddy and I liked it so much we played 36 back to back. I'll be back for sure! Thanks Fox Den!

Saturday play

Course in good shape. Greens consistant, greens sticky even from close-in. No barespots, thick rough (ball will sit down). Ranger making the rounds but took 4 3/4 hr to play which is ok for a Saturday.
