Winding Creek Golf Club
About
Winding Creek Golf Club in Thomasville is an 18-hole municipal course that is one of the most affordable rounds in the area. It is a regulation-length layout that measures 6,367 yards from the tips. The design is a true target-golf test that is player friendly enough for beginners but will also challenge more advanced players. The golf course is perched atop one of the highest points in Davidson County. From elevated tees and greens you can enjoy dramatic views as well as some intimidating shots. It's a golf course that will most likely have you using every club in your bag. Though there is plenty of variety, the course isn't too formidable for high handicappers. In addition to the golf course, Winding Creek also has a putting green and driving range that you can use for warming up.

Interesting Course but very slow pace made for a below average experience
I played on a Saturday on a beautiful and warm late autumn day. Clubhouse staff were very friendly and informative, and the greens fees included a small, helpful booklet with the course layout and a short but well-written summary of each hole. It had the best yardage layout I have ever seen - no GPS needed!
I am glad that I had something to read, because the pace of play was VERY SLOW today and I wonder if they normally have rangers/marshals on the weekend but did not have them given how late in the year I was playing. It definitely would have helped.
The course is interesting and a bit odd, with two blind tee shots on the 1st 2 holes. And the 6th has a blind approach shot! The opening and parallel finishing fairways are very wide and have a links-type feel, with multiple dry bunkers. There is indeed a winding creek that plays nicely into several holes, but the creek itself needed some attention - there were lots of plastic bags, bottles, and other junk up and down the banks, and I even saw a plastic security tag (the kinds that are attached to expensive clothes at the department stores) stuck in the bank at one of the river crossings. To be fair, we've have some significant flooding with the fall storms, and I am sure that this played a part. But the creek, which should have been a striking feature and focal point for this course, was more of wobegone eyesore. If cleaned up, it would be very nice.
This course has lots of sloping fairways and the greens were in fantastic condition.
There is plenty of variety and some very fun par 3s (elevation change on the 8th and a lake carry on 16th). There is a gigantic broadcast/cell phone tower that dominates the views back towards the clubhouse, but there are plenty of vistas that do not include it. One side of the course runs parallel to the interstate, but aside from that, it is quite quiet. The biggest problem was clearly the pace of play It did not seem worth the 30 minute drive to Thomasville. Perhaps it would have been more fun during the week, with a brisker pace of play. The pace did pick up at the turn as one of the groups ahead only played 9 holes. I did not see any rangers but since the 10th tee was open, I kept moving. I did not use the clubhouse, but it seemed clean, and the pro shop looked well stocked. And the booklet they provided was very thoughtful and well put together.
Crazy course
What can I say? This course is crazy with all the blind shots, undulating up and down, side to side fairways. Undulating greens as well! 1st time playing makes it a guessing game to hit it in the right spot. The tee boxes are great, with plenty of grass, the fairways are mostly narrow, but well seeded, the rough was not too thick, and the greens were perfect, but hard to read, and small mostly. There are some excellent scenic views here , as well as some weird ones with giant phone towers and fences. No houses on the course is nice. I couldn't get over the layout and sometimes it was hard to tell where to go to find the next tee box. Also, on some holes, you are hitting your second shot right toward or over a tee box to the green. Just plain confusing is what it is. Enjoyedbour round and I recommend playing at least once for the views and craziness.
Great public course
One of the best public golf courses in the area. Great fairway grass and smooth greens you get rewarded a lot of times if you stay in the fairway.
great for the money
course in great shape, fairways nice, greens even nicer
Great public course - Teen friendly
Really nice public course. Staff is very friendly who love junior golfers. Challenging layout with very nice greens. A great value.
Greens were bad
Overall Wnding Creek is a challenging course. The only issue I had was the greens. They had been aerated, but no notice was posted on Golf Now and no word from the Pro. It would hsve been nice to have known ahead of time.
Just Average
Played Winding Creek on a whim today and it was spectacularly average. The area received a good amount of rain in the last few days so the course was soaked, not their fault. However, I was surprised it wasn't cart path only, I went off at 9:30 and already the fairways and soft spots were trashed with muddy cart tracks.
If you're an above average player I would choose somewhere else, the course tips out at like 6,400 yards. Short courses can still be fun but this one just didn't excite me.
The greens in my opinion were again just average, yes they were wet and soft so they probably couldn't be cut this morning.
Overall I think its a course your going to be headed to after work with a 12 pack and a 5 some. A solid 3 star course, staff was friendly but just not worth the drive down from Greensboro.
Great layout but numerous un-fixed ball marks on each green
Fair and enjoyable layout with a good mix of elevation changes. Played as a twosome and didn’t force us to pair up (I’m sure this is because of COVID), but played in 4 hours after teeing off mid-morning on the weekend. Pace seemed to pick up after ranger came out. Numerous un-fixed ball marks on every green. Friendly staff in golf shop and grill.
T time management is a joke
This is a great course but as someone else said people like to jump in on the back and we had a shotgun tournament begin during our round! Management get a clue!
Friendly service on the condition that we were playing
Being a first time player on this course my wife and I had a good time the course was in good condention it was wide open grass was cut greens were good. Only thing that would help next time is to have better directions around the course. Got lost a few times. But over all we give it a 4.
Holiday Golf
Course was in great shape. Pace was good, not any long waits on any hole. Greens smooth, no burn or bumps. Not an issue but always like to state that a spotter on #2 would probably speed play since it is blind tee shot and sloped fairway.
Great course and great value.
Course is in very good shape. Some blind shots, but fair. Enjoyed the day with my sons. Would play again for sure.
Great day at Winding Creek Golf Course
The golf course is in great shape from tee to green. The greens ran around a 9 and rolled true. We had a threesome in front of us but when we came to number 10 a single jumped in front of us .We played the back nine waiting on him to hit every shot and the threesome that was in front of us was two holes ahead. This golfer played two balls every hole.I drove an hour to get to the course for a 8:02 tee time. I don't think I will be back because of the situation we put up with on the back nine.
