Winding Creek Golf Club
About
Winding Creek Golf Club in Thomasville is an 18-hole municipal course that is one of the most affordable rounds in the area. It is a regulation-length layout that measures 6,367 yards from the tips. The design is a true target-golf test that is player friendly enough for beginners but will also challenge more advanced players. The golf course is perched atop one of the highest points in Davidson County. From elevated tees and greens you can enjoy dramatic views as well as some intimidating shots. It's a golf course that will most likely have you using every club in your bag. Though there is plenty of variety, the course isn't too formidable for high handicappers. In addition to the golf course, Winding Creek also has a putting green and driving range that you can use for warming up.

Soaking Wet
Well I'm just a tad confused. The golf course is a really good layout but for the life of me I can't figure out why the entire course was wet and muddy as it hasn't rained for 10 days.
Rough and fairways needed to be cut as there was no roll.
Collars of numerous greens were extremely wet and if you hit short, the ball would literally die right there.
If the maintenance crew could ever figure out how much water to put on the course, it would be a very fair test.
Great course for the price
Course was in pretty good condition
Winding Creek Golf Club
Played Winding Creek for the first time on Sunday. It checks most of the boxes you would use to define 'muni.' This isn't a bad thing, per se. You have to traverse your way down a couple of narrow roads and past a church to get to it. There was the normal Sunday morning group getting ready to go out, and the pro shop staff did a great job in getting me out in front of them. I had the course open and to myself for the rest of the round.
There is a putting green outside the pro shop and a driving range towards the back of the parking lot.
Course knowledge will definitely help you out here, as there are definitely 'hit it here, not there' places on this course. The overriding theme of the course are that there are no flat spots anywhere, with the exception of tee boxes. Every lie in the fairway will be either uphill downhill, or side hill. The same goes for the rough as well. There is a fair amount of elevation change on the course, and quite a few doglegs. Some holes cut through trees, while others are exposed, almost links-like. A creek comes into play on the 2nd hole, and a pond on the 16th. Those are the only two water hazards on the course. The teeboxes were OK to a little shaggy. Fairways had plenty of grass on them. There were a few areas in the rough where large sections of turf had been replaced. There were also uncollected grass clippings in the rough, but they did not affect play at all. The rough was thick enough to be a hindrance, but not thick enough where you could not find your ball. The greens are fairly large and undulating. They had been punched fairly recently, so it was tough to tell how well they rolled, but they seemed to be a little above average as muni greens go. The bunkers were very well maintained and had plenty of soft sand in them.
Good place to get out and play
Had a great time playing this course. Greens were in very good condition, fairways were in good condition. Course has had lots of rain recently and is wet in places. Would advise anyone staying in the Greensboro area make the drive to play Winding Creek.
course has a lot of onjulation and slopes, good layout.
For the money it's worth playing, not expensive as a lot of courses in area. I highly recommend it to play. Bang for the buck! Pace of play is good, and slower players let you go ahead of them. Round took about 4 hrs with a captain choice tournament going on.
They don't appreciate it enough!
The course layout was awkward but the holes were challenging. They criss-cross making for some dangerous driving and dodging incoming drives. All in all if the greens would of been cut the day of play I would say great course. But as it played the greens were slow overplayed and FULL of ball marks. Nothing makes me more frustrated than ball marks. Own it people! If you hit and damage the green, repair it.. the course is not there for just you, but this course had a bigger problem divots, out of the green.. if you have ever done this, do me and the rest of the world a favor... quit the game and get some anger management classes, please. When I told management they seemed like it was normal, and rolled his eyes. All the negative aside I will play it again. It is worth a second round.
Tough Gem
I picked this course for the price but was thrilled with my round. Course will challenge first time players as myself as there are no flat lies on the course aside from the tee boxes! Also most shots are blind off the tee ! Still I came away impressed by the conditions of fairways and greens. Fellow players could not have been any more helpful as several groups let me play through as a single. Staff was great as well.h
Winding Creek Golf Course
As usual a fun place to play. I enjoyed my round.
A Value Course
This was a great course for the cost. It had a lot of rolling hills with sloping fairways. It was a nice layout. Some of the greens were kind of small but I will play this course again.
The course has some challenging fairways
Overall is OK. Good for the price.
Doesn't drain very well so after rain it's soggy in places for awhile.
average golf course
The course is in fair shape for the weather that has been here. The golf pro here is very rude and is hardly ever on the course. If he is ever on site he must be hiding. The pace of play is slow and no one in the club house really gives a hoot. The other staff has no idea how to operate a golf club facility. The snacks are extremely over priced.
Winding Creek Tee Time Canceled - Bad Form
Made a reservation on GolfNow, a hot deal for $11 for 18 holes for my wife and me. 2:30pm on Wednesday. Received a call and email at 10am on Wednesday notifying me that our tee time was canceled because the course had a tournament that day. I called the course to confirm this. Why were all of the GolfNow tee times listed then?
No contact from the course, no offer to honor the rate another time. Will update my review if I ever go to Winding Creek, but for now, having nothing good to say about it.
Winding Creek
Course and greens in great shape. Pace of play was extremely slow maybe due to great weather conditions. Good value for money will come back again .
Busy
After 3pm is a busy time due to the drop in rate. I felt a little rushed, since this was my first time I wanted a slower round. All in all though great value for the money.
Play nice and great value
I've played this course for a long time, but it has been about 5 yrs since the last I played it, they have done some things to put more of the course in play, but you still have to hit good golf shots. The greens was growing back in after air rating, but they were pretty decent and the ball sit up in the fairway, when I hit one which wasn't very many, my fault not the course, overall great value. The layout is challenging like links course, which I think Is a lot of fun.
AWEFUL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I got a great rate on this course and it still wasn't worth it. There were about 9-12 holes in fair shape and the rest were not worth playing. No grass, plowed up, sod patches, and mud, mud and more mud. I wouldn't play here again if they paid ME.
Not a good course or value
I'm normally pretty easy-going when it comes to the quality of courses that I play, but I was very disappointed w/ Winding Creek. It is easily the worst quality course I've ever played. Many fairways had no grass, but only mud, and the fairways that weren't destroyed were thicker than the rough. I got a very cheap rate of $24 but can easily say that this course was not worth it. I'd say that there were maybe 4 holes that were of suitable condition on the entire course. I would advise playing elsewhere or staying at home if you have no other options.
Awful course conditions
Over watered and painted greens. Hit a decent tee shot and you're rewarded with a lie in the mud. Needs management that knows how to take care of a golf course. Until that happens stay away, absolutely not worth $19.
Great mid-range course
Significant winter kill and over watering producing tougher conditions
Greens excellent
Stuck with 3 groups that had 7 AM tee time
In summary, enjoyable but could be better
