Santa Anita Golf Course

The course was in good shape. The greens were very hard and your ball would not stay on the green. Always putting from the edge of the green. Pace of play was very good.

first time at santa anita and had a great round. fairways and rough were both in good shape. i gave the conditions a four because the sand traps were very hard and made it difficult to get out of. a little softer sand and it's a five star rating. we had 1:40/1:50 tee times for two groups and were able to finish 18 holes in 3.5 hrs. a big win for public course in southern california.

I hit several drives into the middle of the fairway. My lie was like being in the rough. Santa Anita GC needs to mow the grass more often and maintain this course.

Again... nice course. The greens are ok, kind of slow, but is to be expected with the type of grass. Many are raised greens, and the greens are on the firm side. The fairways are in bad condition, not trimmed at all. Grass in the center of the fairway can be taller than roughs at some other courses. Not only it's difficult to get any roll from drives, hitting from such fairways to raised greens reduces the spin so much that any lower angle approaches will roll past the green.

So you've got a bad combination... raised greens, firm, no spin from fairway due to grass always behind the ball.

Also the walk is pretty tough for such a flat course, because you've got to push past long expanse of fairway rough... TRIM THE FAIRWAYS! It's been at least 3 weeks like this.

The fairways were in great shape and e pace of play was outstanding. Not overbooked. The greens could use a little bit of work but i wouldn’t hesitate going back

We walk early and play in 3+ hours! Sneaky good old school design; I absolutely love it! But other than the “Grand Re-Opening” for the new management group now several years ago, the turf conditions are deplorable!!! The “company” doesn’t deserve the contract IMHO. The fairways are simply unacceptable. As for the tees, it appears the Superintendent NEVER inspects tee placement for decent turf conditions and proper tee placement. You are managing a GOLF COURSE, get out there and look at it; DAILY!

I.play there once a week and have noticed that there aren’t any direction markers for carts This has created pathways where no grass grows. In years past there were always directional markers for the carts. I think the current management should return to that practice.

I have trying to get a tee time through your website. It is not possible. I have been trying for months. You say a tee time is available 7 days in advance. Every time it says "no tee times are available". Please fix your website.

Nice time to play. Not so hot.

Only problem is no GPS

I used to play this course frequently. It's layout is fun and has lots of potential when it's in shape. I played a year ago and it was lousy fairways, threadbare, hardpan and dirt patches everywhere, average greens. A year later and the fairways are like rough, 2" thick. Absolutely no roll no matter how well you drive the ball. Greens are worse than carpets, thick and slow like bedroom rug. I'd say they rolled at 5/6 Stimp at best. Never seen the grass so poorly maintained in years of playing there. Very disappointed, The course conditions absolutely punish your ability to shoot a decent score right now.

Loved the organization of getting to the first tee. This course is a little more difficult in general due to several elevated greens but the fairway was not the “short stuff” which made the approach shots tougher. That is why I’m giving 4 instead of 5 stars. Pace of play was great! 4 hour round on a Saturday early-mid morning. Don’t think many other LA County courses can say that.

I’ve played this course for years and usually it’s good for the money. The staff is awesome. Golf is witnessing growth like never before with it being one of the only things you can do now, I played here a few weeks ago and it was ok. The greens were good and the fairways were longer and softer than usual but I didn’t really feel the need to criticize. Yesterday the fairways were like the second cut of rough at most courses. All of the fairways all the way to the green. The greens were not holding and harder than I’ve ever seen. I know it’s reaching aeration time etc but If they’re gonna charge full price they gotta now the fairways. The older gentleman that joined my son and I couldn’t even get his irons through the ball. Good course just needs a lot of work right now. With the popularity of golf right now and high school golf gearing up to play I hope they get this track into shape as we enjoy playing there.
