Beautiful setting
I’ve always enjoyed going to Mt Mitchell to play. This last time, however, the course is in somewhat bad condition. Several of the greens had a fungus and had several dead patches in various places. One green was halfway dead. I also saw way too much crabgrass in the fairways. Something that could be taken care of in the spring with crabgrass control and a broadleaf weed control. I payed $70 to play on dead greens and crabgrass fairways and I wasn’t too happy about it.
Clean up the fairways!
Crab grass everywhere on the fairways! Grass was also way too long for a fairway. Felt like I was in the rough when I was dead center in the fairway.
Promising, wet from recent rains.
Have played this course off and on for 15+ years and love the layout. A real gem in the NC mountains. Always friendly staff. Was told ownership changed in the last year or so with positive comments from staff. Fairway grass was a bit too lush and thick and I'm sure the rainfall over the last several weeks has made mowing difficult. Tee boxes were in adequate condition but not great. Greens are slow but rolled true.A few greens were a bit shabby on the edges. I've seen the course in better shape but wish the best for the new owners. Given the conditions and the remote location I thought price was a little much. Look forward to seeing improvements.
Course is in extremely bad shape!
Course is in extremely bad shape! Bare spots on several greens, crabgrass and weeds in fairways from not being sprayed. Need to put money into the golf course not new carts with GPS. Grass on greens was very high from not being cut. Course is way over priced at $89, in the condition it’s in now it’s only worth about $30 to play.
Played the front nine, which was very flat and wet, all holes were cart path only. Stopped for lunch, because it started to rain.( club sandwich ok and a beer $5 on thirsty Thursday) Rained hard for 25-30 minutes. They did not close the course but should have, all holes were cart path only. The only elevation on the course was the uphill slope to the 10th green, followed by a steep downhill from the 11th tee box to the green 125yds. Picked up on hole 12 because it was too wet and it started to rain again, drove the rest of the way to view the course. Back side has a few creeks and streams and some nice views of the surrounding mountains, much more picturesque than the mundane front nine. Weather conditions spoiled the day, but we were surprised by the lack of elevation for a mountain course. We play on Sugar Mountain mostly and we love it!
Beautiful views
Mt Mitchell GC has incredible views of the mountains. Course is of medium length, with just enough difficulty to challenge to top golfers who play there. Excellent carts with GPS. Fairways are OK, nothing great. Greens are in absolutely terrible shape! Sand traps appear to never get raked by maintenance crew. Having said the that,I will most definitely play here again. Views and streams are just too awesome.
Not worth the price
I expected more from a course with this price point. Fairways overrun by crabgrass, also large bare spots everywhere, including several greens. Several tee boxes were waterlogged. This could be a beautiful facility but is currently a huge miss.
Beautiful Views
Always enjoy playing this course. If it were a little closer I would be a member.
Mt Mitchell Golf
I played the course for the first time on 7/6/24. Beautiful views! It's a shame that they don't keep the golf course in good shape! Fair ways are being taken over by dallas grass & crab grass! Greens are watered too much and very high and very slow, with bad spots on them. It could be a very nice course with someone that knows how to maintain a golf course.
Wow How the great has fallen
I have played this course for years and always loved the condition and layout. Now as of today , this course has fallen to the deepest despair. The course is getting to the place of no return. The fairways have so much crab grass it is unbelievable. The tee boxes look like a cow pasture. The bunkers if you can call it bunkers are nothing but fake sand if you ask me. Fellow golfers this place is not what it once was. This was a top 100 golf course in North Carolina and now it would be in the bottom of the course rankings. Then they are asking for initiation fees for membership and the over 200 a month in dues. Staff was great very nice people and enjoyed talking to them. There are other golf courses to spend your money on. Hopefully this course will return to this glory, but as for now run and I mean run from this one.
An Excellent DAy of Golf!
What a beautiful track of golf. No wonder Roy Williams has put it #6 in his favorite courses to play in North Carolina alongside Pinehurst #2 and Quail Hollow. We weren't disappointed and the food was excellent.
Great Course!
Great course, great staff, loved everything about our time at Mt. Mitchell Golf Club. We had a special request and the GM went out of his way to assist us. Thanks!
