My new favorite course
I hadn't played this course in many years as it went through a rough time with changes in ownership but what a great change it was for the better.
It was n very good shape and fun to play.
Greens were holding to well hit shots, greens putting true and consistent.
I plan to play this course as my time allows and with it being on Golfnow with some great rates, I plan to play it often.
I would make it a must play course if coming anywhere close to Asheville - In my opinion as good as other resorts and more fun.
Great view and course
Loved playing here with my wife. View, course conditions and pace of play were excellent. Great value and experience.
Not a $49 Golf Course
I was suprised that the green fee (Sunday) was $49.
I played this course a few years ago and the weekend green fee was in the $30's.
Course conditions were ok, maybe 6 out of 10 stars. Bunkers are completely unkept with crab grass in many. We made a layout rule since the bunkers had not been maintained in a long time. Fairways and tee boxes are ok 7 out of 10. The large greens while slow were in better shape and I'd rate 8 out if 10 stars, staff was very curtious. The day we played temperatures were in the mid 80's and we were disappointed to find that there is no on course water coolers. The course location is very scenic and many holes are as well. The front 9 is unforgiving for mid to high handicap players. Missing the fairway by even a narrow margin resulted in many lot balls. The front 9 is more forgiving. I would play this course again if the green fees were in line with the course condition.
Getting better
Course is improving nicely. Great layout, best around this area. New owners are making improvements. With a little time, I think they will have the course as good as any.
Hard to find, but nice course.
The greens are in excellent condition. The course has some good views. The sand traps needed some work. A bit of a drive but a fine course.
Coming back
I used to play this course regularly when I lived in the area, but moved five years ago. Before I left the place was going downhill, and playing conditions really suffered. I heard that they had new owners and, since I needed to spend the day in the area, wanted to see for myself how things were progressing. I'm happy to report that the course is on the way back. The greens are in very good shape, tees and fairways are coming along, and the staff is giving excellent customer service. A wonderful improvement to a great course.
New find
Just found this course and love it. New owners are taking care of course nicely.
Love Springdale CC
The new Ownership group at Springdale is pouring their heart and soul into this magical place. I have been coming for 35 years, and our group of 12 for 28 years, and we are very excited about the improvements that have already been made. I highly recommend Springdale CC - you won't be disappointed!
Things I like about Springdale:
1. The people, who are the friendliest anywhere!
2. The fact you park your car the entire trip and use golf carts to go everywhere.
3. The beautiful golf course, including The Spasm.
4. The food.
5. The relaxing atmosphere.
Hidden Gem
I've played this course over the years and came back a couple of weeks ago and was told that the course was under new ownership. I met the new owners and I must say that I was very impressed. I was told that the greens had been rolled for the first time in the course history and I must admit it made a big difference in my golf game. The greens were a lot faster than I remember and the fairways were great! They have also reversed the 9's making the SPASM number 13 (very fitting). The new owners also told me that they were going to open a new sports bar when the building gets renovated and they said it should soon. I'm looking forward to being able to play the course then enjoy some down time at the bar while watching a game. For the price of $38 for 18 holes on this long challenging course, you can't beat it. I will definitely be back!
Hidden Gem
Played this course over the years and came back a couple of weeks ago and was informed the course had been bought. Met the new owners while I was there and I must say I was very impressed. They said the greens had been rolled for the first time in the course history and the new equipment on the fairways really made a difference in my golf game. Man, I could really tell a difference in the greens and how fast they played. They also reversed the 9's and now the famous SPASM is number 13 (very fitting). I was also told about their future opening of a sports bar as soon as the building was renovated. I am looking forward to that. As challenging as this course is and the current conditions I can only imagine they will improve and for the price of $38 for 18 holes it's worth the drive. I will be playing this course again very soon!
A Tale of Two Courses
Would rate this course about 3.5...maybe higher because of the views esp on front 9...but wasn't impressed with fairways and some tee boxes. On some holes it was hard to tell fairway from rough, but could be due to recent rain. Greens were is very good shape however.
Front 9 is hilly - a mountain course...Back 9 is in the valley...flatter and more wide open.
No one behind us all day on a Sunday morning...had a few groups in front, but they were moving.
The course bills itself as a "resort" but you don't pay resort rates for daily play.
Worth a try if in the Asheville, NC area.
You must have caught him on a bad day or you're a total imbecile. I met him today and have never met a nicer, more personable starter in all my days of playing golf. He's been at the course for 16 years under different ownership so he must be doing something right!
Worst golfing experience of our lives. Randy, the starter, terrorized us off of the golf course, completely manic and threatened us saying "You better leave while you can." This was witnessed by two other Springdale employees - a situation I've never experienced in 20 years of golfing. STAY AWAY from this course unless you want to ruin your day.
