Upscale Course but...
The course is beautiful, everything well manicured. $80 for a round is a bit steep but it was Father's Day... The biggest complaint I had was the greens were way too fast for your average hacker. Tap the ball and if it didn't go in, very good chance it was going 5-6 feet by the hole. Unless you are use to greens that fast you will find heartbreak. With your irons, you better be able to put spin because the greens would not hold anything. Once for the experience is enough for me.
Player friendly yet challenging
Greens were excellent. Course in very good condition. Excellent staff as I left my putter and pro let me use a new one on the house. Would highly recommend if in ths charlotte area. Tremendous landscaping. You will see cooperate America as you play the back 9. It was very different seeing corperate high rises along pretty much every hole. High budget course with good value. The views may add for some and yake away from others.
Ballantyne
I love this track. Great, fun course. Not difficult (or long) tee to green, but the greens are tough! Amenities (range, food/drink) are great. Staff is very nice and helpful.
Right now, unfortunately, the conditions are not very good. The course is dried out. Tee boxes, fairways, a and greens are struggling. Hopefully they can get some help with some rain soon to make this place pristine again.
Great Course - hope to play when dry
This course definitely met...actually, exceeded my expectations, as I had previously heard good things about it, and it definitely delivered. From Chris in the pro shop, who was nice to me, but most importantly, to my young son, who was joining me to play, to the Starter (can't remember his name, but recall he was from Fairfield CT), who actually gave my son a logo golf ball as a souvenir. The course had a great layout, the greens were in great shape and the pace of play was perfect, as we were able to get through our round in just under 4.5hrs. I can't wait to return and play again, when it is dry, as Charlotte had been hit with a lot of rain in the days prior to our playing. I Highly Recommend this course!
Great Course if you can get a deal on the green fees
It is a fun course to play but the value for the full green fees is not great. If you can get a deal on the cost it is a great course for a $40 round.
greens were challenging
enjoyed the course, practice facility was super. busy course. took a little longer than expected. Course was in a great shape. definitly worth hot deal price!!!
So nice!
The place is great! Chris in the pro shop was as nice and friendly as he could be.
great course
The course is fantastic. The greens are very quick and break like a bronco. The fairways are nicely cut and they have plenty of water and slope hazards to keep you on your toes
Beautiful Course and Facility
Course was gorgeous as with the resort it is associated with, however for the price $80+, one would expect the fee comes with range balls, the carts would have a gps mapping on each hole with hole tips, and ball and club cleaner on the carts. The pace of play was extremely slow,, easily 2 sets of foursome were stacked on each and every hole thru 18...This course will show all weakness in your game, rough was 3-4 inches easy, lost 2-3 balls in the rough not the tree line, greens were ridiculously fast and much movement, not a long course but must be accurate and a good sand player, bunkers guard every hole. Will play again but at a cheaper tee time and during a weekday perhaps the pace of play will be much better.
Under Rated - For Sure
A lot of the times on family vacations, I have the opportunity to play one round on a trip - so I want to make that at a good course. In researching Charlotte golf courses, none of the courses in south Charlotte blew me away. Was hesitant to play at Ballantyne based on reviews that said it meanders through office buildings and houses - I hate playing courses surrounded by houses. In my opinion, saying this course meanders through houses and office buildings - is a bit over stated. While that is true - it doesn't have that feel at all.
The course was in great shape and was a good mix of easy and challenging holes. Fairways are generous and the greens very fast but rolled very true.
Bottom line, at $59 the course is a steal. I've paid more for significantly less in terms of quality of course. If your looking for a course in south Charlotte - this is a very good choice.
Special Place
My son works near the course and plays here at least once a week. I learned it is also home to the famous Dana Rader Golf Academy which lets everyone know its a first class facility. He's been singing it's praises so I made a date to leave work early and check it out. Everyone on the staff made a special effort to welcome us to the course. Very informative and friendly. The course was in terrific condition and had a lot of unique challenges. The greens had recently been aerated but were still fair. I'm looking forward to next time on the greens after they have recovered. If you live here or are visiting the area this course is a must play. The course is very scenic and is integrated in a large resort area but the structures don't impact your shots.
this course has great features
watch the woods to the right of the green on no.13...and pack an extra sleeve of balls just in case
Fun time
Nice course but the greens were set up a little too fast for the amount of slope. Also, the club needs to pair up the twosomes because we continuously has twosomes behind us and letting them play thru was getting annoying.
Outstanding, Very Challenging Golf course great condition
This is a terrific layout in excellent condition. The course is very firm and fast so the ball goes far. Front 9 has one par five and one par three. Back nine has 3 of each type. I played the blue tees. From those tees, all of the par 3's are long and difficult. All of the greens are very undulating and fast. The sand traps have very fine sand and can be a little difficult to get in and out of. My only complaint is that some flagsticks had laser reflectors and some didn't. Either use them or don't.
Best Public Course in Charlotte Area
Hands down the best course in the Charlotte area. The greens were like putting on glass with absolutely no blemishes. Fairways were cut clean and had no patches. Bunkers were raked to perfection. For sure the most beautifuly manicured curse around. Fast pace of play. Also great difficulty for any skill golfer. This course is a must play!
Great Day to play at Ballantyne !!!
I was very impressed with the course and how well they keep it maintained here. The course was in great shape, from T boxes to greens. The biggest difficulty were the greens......extremely fast but a little adjustment with the putter and all was good. The price is a little high for regular play here but I had a great deal from golf now. Weather was perfect, course was perfect and definitely worth playing!!!
Beautiful...fair....golf course...Top notch practice and teaching facility.
beautiful facility top-notch teaching facility great practice facility all the amenities great golf course fair but challenging lots of slope a little pricey but good deals can be found on golfNow worth the money
Excelent
It would be great if the pace would be respected. The game took us 5 hours in a weekday (it was Thursday ).
The course is wonderful, worth the price.
Extrememly slow play
Round was extremely slow - almost 5 hours. Phoned for ranger but he did not speed up play.
Course was dry with no wet spots but play was cart path only which exacerbated the slow play.
Price for snacks at tenth hole kiosk unreasonably high $1.60 for a pack of crackers.
