About
Neuse Golf Club was ranked as one of the best public golf courses in North Carolina, second only to Pinehurst. The layout winds along the Neuse River across rolling hills that are dotted with rocky outcroppings. Towering, mature pines accent the landscape as well, especially along the fairways. Each hole provides a dramatically different challenge and unique scenery. Views of the winding river can be enjoyed on almost every hole. A variety of bunkers and doglegs are strategically placed throughout the golf course, demanding both accuracy and thoughtful strategy. The design closely follows the natural contours of the hilly terrain. Dramatic elevation changes guarantee that flat lies will be hard to find. The golf course is no easy feat but the beautiful scenery and interesting hole designs will appeal to any player.

Excellent day
Very hot day but water coolers were ice cold, friendly and quick staff, and the course speaks for itself. Some solid spot golf holes mixed with some more open layouts makes for a fun group to play.
Only drawback were the carts. Older carts that the battery life was struggling from the third hole. Would’ve loved some towels and coolers as well, but if this is the only negative on a 94 degree day then we’re living pretty good.

Greens should be better
Greens were not up to par for what I expected and not close to some other courses in the area. It was just disappointing. The rest of the course is in great condition and always fun to play.

Great course conditions
Even though greens were recently sanded, the course is in amazing shape— one of my favorite courses in the triangle.

Course in good shape( except traps)
Played here many times. Tough layout. Greens rolling fast. Excellent pace of play and one of the few courses where the starter/ Marshall really does his job.
Traps are terrible. A liability to making this one of my regulars.( although maybe I shouldn’t get in them as much!)
But they really have poor sand and need to be upgraded.
The staff in pro shop and bar/grille are really nice and that makes a difference!

One of our favorites
The Neuse has really stepped up the experience this year. Greens are quick and true. Fairways were well kept and in great shape. As a bonus, their chicken salad sandwich was the best sandwich on any course I’ve played, ever! Great value.

Wonderful course
Really pleasant golfcourse. Pretty challenging for an average player. Beautiful rolling fairways amidst beautiful neighborhoods. Fairways in great shape and although sanded awhile ago, the green were true and healing well. Love this course in Clayton.

Nice Course-Amenities Need Work
Generally speaking, the course was in excellent condition. Fairways were outstanding, but the greens have recently been worked on and were sandy and just fair. Pro Shop: Guys were polite and helpful. Apparel selection left something to be desired and they had no logo balls. Grill: Terrible! Why would you not have hot dogs grilling at 1230 during the day. We stopped on our way to the back 9 and waited 20-25 minutes for a chicken salad wrap and a hot dog (meanwhile, we lost our position on the course and it was backing up.). The chicken salad was allegedly already made so why so long? And, they screwed the order up by putting it on sandwich bread AND not giving us the fries we ordered. We didn't realize that until we pulled up to the 10th tee. Too late to fix at that point. No one seemed to be in a hurry. I will say the hot dog and bun were outstanding, but a bit pricey at $7.25. After the round, we approached the cashier and she had no recollection of the order and made no attempt to do anything about it.....i.e. provide us with fries to take with?

Day with friends
The Neuse always in very good shape and is a pleasure to play! Greens were recently sanded but rolled just fine and will be is great shape soon. Fairways are full but bunkers need a little work due to heavy rains recently. Only saw one tee box that needed work but overall a very good place to play.
