Neuse Golf Club was ranked as one of the best public golf courses in North Carolina, second only to Pinehurst. The layout winds along the Neuse River across rolling hills that are dotted with rocky outcroppings. Towering, mature pines accent the landscape as well, especially along the fairways. Each hole provides a dramatically different challenge and unique scenery. Views of the winding river can be enjoyed on almost every hole. A variety of bunkers and doglegs are strategically placed throughout the golf course, demanding both accuracy and thoughtful strategy. The design closely follows the natural contours of the hilly terrain. Dramatic elevation changes guarantee that flat lies will be hard to find. The golf course is no easy feat but the beautiful scenery and interesting hole designs will appeal to any player.

Not my choice for NC golf

Found the course on golf now. Rate was reasonable but conditions were fair. Greens and fairways rock hard. We also had to skip a hole because we were a twosome in a cart and had four walkers in front of us. Lay out was ok if you like quirky. Not saying I'd never go back but not sure I would either.

Standard course. Challenging.

This course has a nice layout and is fairly undulated (hilly). This makes for tough ball positions above and below your feet often. For the couple of times I have played here, the clubhouse staff have been average at best, usually a little rude. Every time I come here with my friend we get paid with a group and most often they are fairly bad. My rounds here on the weekend average 5-5.5 hours which is too rough for my liking. The grass on the greens needed cut and everything was very slow. The course condition was fine aside from that. I like other courses in the area more than here and will keep my play here to a minimum.

First Run At The Neuse

As The Pre Set Questions In The Survey Reflect The Course Itself Was In Great Condition, The Lay Out Was Awesome And The Overall Design Was Very Cool BUT I Do Feel That They Most Definitely Tend To Over Sell Tee Times. First Impression When Approaching The Starter Is That Pace Of Play Is High On Their List Of Priorities. It Does Not Take Long To Realize That Pace Of Play Is Not Their Concern As Much As Assuring That As Many Golfers That Can Be Packed On The Course At One Time Are Indeed On The Course. Unfortunately What Would Have Gone Down As A Top Of The List Experience Was Tainted With An Incredibly Slow Pace Of Play, With A Very Slow Front And Abandoning Play When Holes 10 and 11 / A Par 4 and A Par 3 Took Over 75 Minutes. I Personally Did Not Witness A Marshal On The Course During My Time At The Neuse. Add In The $20.00 Fee I Was Charged To Have My Non Player Wife Ride With Me And You Have An Average Opinion From A First Time Visitor Instead Of An Excellent One. Please Note That The Starter Never Asked For A Receipt For My Wife, This Tells Me It Was Strictly The Gentleman At The Pro Shops Decision To Charge. As A Conclusion, Beautiful Course, Great Lay Out That Their Green Fees, $8.00 Small Bucket Of Range Balls AND $20.00 Rider Fee Reflect That They Are Proud Of, BUT Their Concern For Quality Pace Of Play And Over All Player Satisfaction In Regards To Pace Unfortunately Speaks Louder Than The Course Quality For Me. WHEN I Return For A Second Chance I Will Be One Of The First Out So I Can Truly Enjoy The Beauty Of The Neuse.

never play this course again

Most unpleasant round of golf in years. Rained on Friday and the course was very wet. Cart path(rough) only. Through the front nine played at a reasonable pace of 2 hours 20 minutes and never once were we pushed from another group. made the turn and was told that we would have to skip hole number 10. asked why and was told that the course runs a strict 4 1/2 hour pace. regardless of course conditions. Told the started that if the group behind us had to wait on us then we would be happy to jump a hole. He then stated that he was going to make every group behind us skip a hole as well. We went to hole 10 and continued to play. on hole 12 the start showed up. Got out of his cart and stood on our tee box yelling at us for not following his instructions. 2 of our golfers had already teed off and we told him that. he became very rude and unreasonable. we stood talking to him for a good 5 minutes and the group behind us never caught up to us. after we finished the round i talked to other golfers in the proshop and was informed that this is a very common practice of this course. Over book the late tee times and then force groups to skip holes so they can get groups out. I am sorry but I do not pay to play 17 holes.

Never again.

If the course was closer and pace was better I would start playing it every weekend. The layout and course conditions are excellent and the prices are extremely reasonable.

Excellent course

My only beef was lack of guidance...Map of course, yardage markers. Lots of nearly blind shots, surprise hazard locations, etc. Not having GPS puts you at distinct disadvantage. Otherwise great, challenging round!

Very fine course

This time of year in the area it is tough to find a course in playable condition. Low sparse fairways and gard greens rule. However, The Neuse was an excpetion, fairways were satisfactory and greens played well with those who can hit crisp approach shots. As expected, the course allowed me to concentrate on my game without distraction due to conditions. Come play The Neuse.

The greens were pretty inconsistent, but was more than likely due to playing in the winter. Staff didn't seem very kind when checking in to the clubhouse.

Working On The Course

The price was maybe too good to be true. When I got to the course the greens had been heavily sanded. It was almost like putting from a sand trap. I understand the course needs to work on the greens. Also, one of the par 5's was turned into a par 3 due to a team working on a pond. Yes, they are working on the course to get it ready for the coming season. All in all, the course wasn't bad and it was challenging thanks to the wind.

A course you can score on

The greens are receptive and always put with consistency . Many Fairways are generous and there are two great short par fours . Pace of play is generally good , ask the pro about times to avoid if you'd like a quick round , there are groups that play in the mornings three times a week . This course is a great value .

Beautiful and Challenging

Lots of hills and valleys, shot placement is important. Course staff and the local members were all very friendly and welcoming. We played in the winter but I'd love to come back to see it green and lush.

Great track

I've always liked the Neuse very much. I've played it probably 30 or more times over the past several years. It's a very fair challenge with a few tough spots. A few of the holes are target golf holes and leave little room for error but still plenty of fun. The greens were my only complaint. They look like they haven't recovered from heat stress likely brought on over the summer. Like everyone else, they need to go to bermuda.

Great course but the head pro mixed up the tee times. Other than the timing mishap and getting off the first tee- great experience
