The Neuse Golf Club
About
Neuse Golf Club was ranked as one of the best public golf courses in North Carolina, second only to Pinehurst. The layout winds along the Neuse River across rolling hills that are dotted with rocky outcroppings. Towering, mature pines accent the landscape as well, especially along the fairways. Each hole provides a dramatically different challenge and unique scenery. Views of the winding river can be enjoyed on almost every hole. A variety of bunkers and doglegs are strategically placed throughout the golf course, demanding both accuracy and thoughtful strategy. The design closely follows the natural contours of the hilly terrain. Dramatic elevation changes guarantee that flat lies will be hard to find. The golf course is no easy feat but the beautiful scenery and interesting hole designs will appeal to any player.

Great course
Enjoyed my round. Was a beautiful day to play. Course was in great shape and the pace was fine.
Great track
I've always liked the Neuse very much. I've played it probably 30 or more times over the past several years. It's a very fair challenge with a few tough spots. A few of the holes are target golf holes and leave little room for error but still plenty of fun. The greens were my only complaint. They look like they haven't recovered from heat stress likely brought on over the summer. Like everyone else, they need to go to bermuda.
Solid course
Great course but the head pro mixed up the tee times. Other than the timing mishap and getting off the first tee- great experience
Great mix of holes
Awesome mix of long and short holes. Few blind shots despite lots of elevation changes.
Great Layout, Slow Play
Starter wasn't very concerned with holding groups to their tee times. Back nine took nearly 3 hours.
The Neuse
Excellen challenging course. The fairways and rough were in very good condition, considering the time of year.
Winter golf
This was my first time playing this course. Had no idea that it was less than 15 minutes from my home. Not being a seasoned player , I was a bit in awe the way it was laid out. Lots of hills . Got over that quick enough and thoroughly enjoyed playing with my son in law. Nice wide fairways which is a plus for those who have a slice in their game like me. Will definitely be playing this course again. Great staff and a great course.
Great layout, nice greens
Always love this course, it's challenging yet fair and with the multiple tees and large undulating greens it can play like a different course every time you play it. Whether you're a young player, woman, senior or a pro it is always enjoyable to play. You'll hit every club in your bag. Course is often a little wet in low areas where the river is near and is always best to play when it hasn't rained in a few days. Staff is always kind and attentive and the food at the grill is top notch for a non-country club. Check it out if you haven't before, I think you'll enjoy it thoroughly.
Fun course to play.
Its very fun to play. Its like playing in a bunch of small foothills. The greens were in great shape but Make sure to read them properly. A ten foot or could easy become a chip shot if you aren't careful. Lots of elevation changes. Have some fun and play this course
Really enjoyed this course!
I played hooky from work to get this round in before the weather gets too chilly & am I glad I did! The Neuse is one of my "new favorites" of the year. Despite being a cool day and a bit breezy, the round was quiet and quick. The course layout was challenging but not overwhelming as to be unplayable on a day like this. Fortunately, I didn't spend a lot of time in the rough, but when I had a miss, I was able to scramble from some interesting lies.
All in all, a very playable course for a mid-handicapper like me.
The Neuse Clayton, NC
I have played this course a number of times and I enjoy playing here every time. The greens are always in good condition. Very rarely are the greens not in great condition. The fairways are always in great conditon, the sand traps are 60% of the time in playable conditions, but still better than most courses that do not care for this part of the game. If in the area it's a must play.
Great friendly atmosphere in clubhouse
The people at the course were very friendly and helpful. It had been several years since I played there, so I was not familiar with the layout. Although it was a challenge, the course was in great condition! We had a very pleasant experience.
Sand on greens
I have played the Neuse before and it was a good experience. The reason I rated two stars was because of the condition of the course. The greens were sanded and there was cut grass everywhere. I know that courses need to do things in order to prepare for the season but I wasnt told by the staff or information on Golf Now that the course would be under this poor of condition. It will be a very long time until I go back to the Neuse. It is a great lay out and could be one of the top courses in the area if they would focus on little things and be friendlier and informative to their clients.
Great value for the money
The course was in great shape even after the rain. There were a few greens that had a little damage but overall the greens were solid and smooth. Excellent layout and always a fun time.
Great course
layout is great holes right beside The Neuse River.
Awful awful greens
Last round of a week long golf vacation. Couldn't have ended on a more sour note. Played here because wife has ClubCorp membership. Nobody told us greens were so bad and had recently been aerated & sanded when we made our time some were more sand than grass. It's high 80s/like 90s and they have no towels.
When we made our time I double checked that they had showers because we were flung home that evening. When we finished our round we were told they were for club members only. If I hadn't escalated to the club manager who had to be reached by phone we'd have made our plane pretty stinky
If this is what ClubCorp is like - no thanks she'll ask for her money back
Even better than I remember
Been 4 years since I last played here. I am a much improved player since then, so it seemed a bit easier than before. The course is in excellent shape. Weather was hot and a player collapsed on #18 tee box requiring an ambulance. Not sure how that ended up?!
Anyway, next time I am in the area, I plan on playing here again.
