The Neuse Golf Club
About
Neuse Golf Club was ranked as one of the best public golf courses in North Carolina, second only to Pinehurst. The layout winds along the Neuse River across rolling hills that are dotted with rocky outcroppings. Towering, mature pines accent the landscape as well, especially along the fairways. Each hole provides a dramatically different challenge and unique scenery. Views of the winding river can be enjoyed on almost every hole. A variety of bunkers and doglegs are strategically placed throughout the golf course, demanding both accuracy and thoughtful strategy. The design closely follows the natural contours of the hilly terrain. Dramatic elevation changes guarantee that flat lies will be hard to find. The golf course is no easy feat but the beautiful scenery and interesting hole designs will appeal to any player.

Couple of things
Simple things would bring this place to a five.
1) Refreshment cart. It's 95 degrees and you don't have a girl/guy driving around the course with refreshments to purchase. Easy money.
2) Better scorecard. The scorecard doesn't have pictures of the hole or description of the flag color positions.
Challenging course...little rough around the edges
I had always heard good things about The Neuse, and it was a fine round. Challenging course with OB off most tees due to houses. The greens were disappointing to me as I thought they were a little rough (especially early holes) and the pace could have been faster.
Nice course but not as nice as expected.
The booking was easy and we were able to get out early since we arrived early. Staff was friendly and welcoming. Club house and pro shop were beautiful. Course was nicely laid out and challenging as advertised. However, it was also advertised as lush and we'll maintainted and this was not the case. Most of the greens were extremely beat up and not very well maintained. Overall though, it was a decent course.
Love the Neuse
I have been playing here for twenty years and It is a great layout and always good condition. My only advice is to really look at pin poisitions as the color of the pin does not always match it's location on the green. This day, several "red, front pins" really actually back and a blue pin was obviously a front position.
A Hidden Gem
One of the better courses in the RDU area. Well maintained, nice greens, and great staff.
Unpleasant Experience
Course decided to book tee times 4 minutes apart and then was surprised when there were three groups waiting to tee off on the second hole. Took five hours and twenty minutes to play 18 holes and after the round the starter merely attempted to blame Golfnow for the slow play. Very unprofessional and ridiculous way to squeeze way too many golfers onto a course in order to justify making some additional money for the course. Too many other good courses out there to spend my money here again and have such an unpleasant experience.
Excellent challenge course
The only drawback is there was significant ground under repair on two holes. The rest of the course was excellent!
Rangers?? We don't need no stinking Rangers!
You know, I love this course. Always great conditions, friendly staff, nice clean carts and challenging.
The only problem is the same one we see every round: granted this was Sunday after a holiday, but it wouldn't matter if it was a random Tuesday at 2:00...pace of play. This round was 5+ hrs. Unacceptable. And we never saw a ranger to encourage players to move along.
The poor 4-some behind us (and especially the unfortunate players behind them) were all high handicappers and they had to have been on the course for 6+ hrs.
I wish someone there would get a clue.
Challenging course
Course was in good condition. Front nine is fairly open and the back nine is very challenging. Pace of play was good for a Saturday.
Excellent Course
This course was well maintained with excellent green conditions. Fast and true! Staff were friendly and polite. The regulars do get restless with slow pace of play, but easily playable for any handicap. Course is long and open with some very interesting holes. Definitely a must play!
good round
good ok golf now go play this course it is not bad
Fantastic course....slow play!
Great course for a great price! Tees, greens, fairways, and bunkers were in great shape. Besides the slow pace it was the perfect day!
The course was in great condition.
Definitely worth the trip to Clayton. Greens were slower than you think and break - not so much what you see.
Lots of character
I have been playing here for 20 years. Never disappoints. Greens on the slow side but true. Tee boxes and fairways are beautiful. Wide open fairways lets you grip it and rip it off the tee box. Highly recommended especially for the price.
Great condition
The course is in great shape. I played the tips and its a good challenge. The weather was near 100 degrees which basically put me out there by myself. I would definitely play again.
Play Neuse
course was great greens were perfect and the price was ideal if you have it you need to.
COURSE GREAT---STAFF NOT SO MUCH!!
COURSE
The course is in great condiiton. No winter kill present as with other courses in the area. Well-maintained.
STAFF
The older lady in the Grill was impatient with other customers as I was waiting. Her negative comments were not warranted. Additonally the most discouraging encounter was with the starter, George. There was a tournament that was finishing ahead of our golf now tee times. It was understandable that he wished to get them throough before sending more players out. There were six of us; 4 singles and 1 two-some from golf now that he held in wait beyond a normal tee time post tournament. We were waiting for the twosome that had the earliest time as they we said to be at the driving range. I was taken back that George was holding up a group and a half for a 'late group' knowing that we had all agreed to play immediately .He was extremely inflexible in trying to do his job while at the same time holding up play. I believe he did this in order for him to be comfortable the exact players matched the tee sheet exactly. This was not a very welcoming site at the first tee and coaching should be recommended for George for keeping starting times moving without delay. It is more important that starting times are initiated to keep pace than the exact names of players for each group.
See you soon
Excellent course, probably the 2nd nicest course I have ever played. Moved to the area about 6 months ago and this will differently be my course of choice. The views on the course are awesome and the scenery is something you don't expect from Clayton, NC. I will will returning soon.
Good value, challenging layout
The fairways aren't in good shape now but the greens are. I love the layout and elevation changes. Play was quite slow on the front side, a little better on the back.
This course is kept in very good condition.
Over all this course is kept in very good condition, maybe one of the best in the area, I really enjoyed it playing here, will definitely play it again..
