The Neuse Golf Club
About
Neuse Golf Club was ranked as one of the best public golf courses in North Carolina, second only to Pinehurst. The layout winds along the Neuse River across rolling hills that are dotted with rocky outcroppings. Towering, mature pines accent the landscape as well, especially along the fairways. Each hole provides a dramatically different challenge and unique scenery. Views of the winding river can be enjoyed on almost every hole. A variety of bunkers and doglegs are strategically placed throughout the golf course, demanding both accuracy and thoughtful strategy. The design closely follows the natural contours of the hilly terrain. Dramatic elevation changes guarantee that flat lies will be hard to find. The golf course is no easy feat but the beautiful scenery and interesting hole designs will appeal to any player.

COURSE GREAT---STAFF NOT SO MUCH!!
COURSE
The course is in great condiiton. No winter kill present as with other courses in the area. Well-maintained.
STAFF
The older lady in the Grill was impatient with other customers as I was waiting. Her negative comments were not warranted. Additonally the most discouraging encounter was with the starter, George. There was a tournament that was finishing ahead of our golf now tee times. It was understandable that he wished to get them throough before sending more players out. There were six of us; 4 singles and 1 two-some from golf now that he held in wait beyond a normal tee time post tournament. We were waiting for the twosome that had the earliest time as they we said to be at the driving range. I was taken back that George was holding up a group and a half for a 'late group' knowing that we had all agreed to play immediately .He was extremely inflexible in trying to do his job while at the same time holding up play. I believe he did this in order for him to be comfortable the exact players matched the tee sheet exactly. This was not a very welcoming site at the first tee and coaching should be recommended for George for keeping starting times moving without delay. It is more important that starting times are initiated to keep pace than the exact names of players for each group.
See you soon
Excellent course, probably the 2nd nicest course I have ever played. Moved to the area about 6 months ago and this will differently be my course of choice. The views on the course are awesome and the scenery is something you don't expect from Clayton, NC. I will will returning soon.
Good value, challenging layout
The fairways aren't in good shape now but the greens are. I love the layout and elevation changes. Play was quite slow on the front side, a little better on the back.
This course is kept in very good condition.
Over all this course is kept in very good condition, maybe one of the best in the area, I really enjoyed it playing here, will definitely play it again..
Needs work
This is my third time playing here...the greens were punched on 11 May 2015 and are slower than a herd of turtles stampeding through peanut butter. Many of the holes are getting re-sodded. The driving range and practice facility are in good shape though. Once they finish the repairs...it should be back to its normal pace.
Interesting Course- Raleigh Gem
This is a very nice course. For the most part, tees fairways and bunkers were in very good condition. Sand in the bunkers was as soft and in good shape as you'll find for a public track. The greens had been aerated (although punch marks are no longer showing), which made them as slow as any I can remember playing. That made it a little frustrating, but I'm sure they'll be cutting them shorter soon. This is a great course with lots of dog legs and elevation changes. It's fair off the tee, although visually it doesn't always appear that way. I'll definitely make this a regular stop.
Good Course but greens sandy and aerated
I've played this course several times. It's on of my favorites. I didn't know the greens were aerated. A heads up would have been nice.
Fun course.
Course in good shape. Makes you hit some different shots.
The Neuse
The Neuse is one of the better courses in my area. It is a challenging course and makes you use every club in your bag. Green fees are resonable compared to many other courses nearby that are not the quality of The Neuse.
enjoyed the course
enjoyed the course...challenging but fair...recommend it to anyone.
Great course
Played here with my father recently for the first time.. Course was in great shape and we played on a Sunday and finished in just over 4 hours.. Can't beat that!! I will definitely be back.
Problem with pace of play
Pace of play has been an issue at the neuse lately according to many posts. It was terribly slow today. We were out there for 4 hours and were not done with 14 holes yet. We quit because we couldn't take it anymore.
Layout is great and so are people. Fairways need some work right now but greens are in good shape. Great course for a great price but pace of play is major issue...
Slow... Again.
Seems to happen a lot especially during the week. I find a good afternoon tee time in hopes that I can get in a round, but get there to find out that there is a tournament and pace is VERY slow. The staff has yet to ever mention this before I go out and discover it myself. This recent experience I sped through 1 - 3 and got behind a foursome. After 20 minutes at the tee box I went off and quickly caught them at #5 where they informed me that there were 6 foursomes in front of them in their tournament. Why did the staff not tell me this and have me go off of #10? I picked up and went to #12 and passed the group. Pace after that was great, but I never got myself back together. Ruined my experience and day. Ended up playing a total of 8 holes for the day.
Love The Neuse Golf Club!
This course never lets me down. Greens rolled fast and true and were in great shape. Fairways and rough are beginning to come in, still a few weeks away from being green. The only complaint I have is pace of play, sometimes the members are reluctant to let u play thru. I didn't see a ranger which could help on busy days. This still won't keep me from coming back time after time
A must play
On route to Myrtle beach we like to break up the drive. This course is in a fabulous location for that.
Only negative which beyond control was the winter burn on parts of the fairways, did not affect play only took away from the beautiful vista.
There are are not too many courses in this part of the world with elevation changes like this course sprinkled with lovely boulders and not too much water.
The carts were great so you did not struggle over the terrain.
Many wonderful golf shots on this course where you must hit a shot but not have to carry for miles.
This course has a nice layout and variety of holes.
I would recommend the Neuse River course for being one of the best valuesi and fun courses to play around Raleigh.
Always fun to play
4th time playing, really enjoy the layout. Greens putted well
Slow Play Issue
Played the course twice in the last month. All was very good except for the pace of play the second time. We think the problem was 2 walkers that appeared to think they were playing the Masters, but wouldn't have qualified for the Drive, Chip & Putt contest. Further, IMHO walkers should not be allowed on this generally long and hilly course during prime weekend hours. It tarnished an otherwise very good experience.
Too slow
Very nice layout and nice course conditions, but 5 hour round is always unacceptable. There was not a single "players assistant" roving the course to check things out and speed up groups where necessary. No excuse. The Nuese is a long drive away and that is why I had not been there in several years, it is unlikely that I will return.
Great course for great price
The course was really nice. I am from Pennsylvania and was playing it with my dad, so we could get out of snow and I could prepare for my up comming tournaments. The course has lots of elevation on the back 9 and has a nice mix on the front of flat and hilly lies. The greens where receptive and probably a 8-9 on the stimp meter. The course was very fun to play and had lots of challenges to it.
