The Neuse Golf Club
About
Neuse Golf Club was ranked as one of the best public golf courses in North Carolina, second only to Pinehurst. The layout winds along the Neuse River across rolling hills that are dotted with rocky outcroppings. Towering, mature pines accent the landscape as well, especially along the fairways. Each hole provides a dramatically different challenge and unique scenery. Views of the winding river can be enjoyed on almost every hole. A variety of bunkers and doglegs are strategically placed throughout the golf course, demanding both accuracy and thoughtful strategy. The design closely follows the natural contours of the hilly terrain. Dramatic elevation changes guarantee that flat lies will be hard to find. The golf course is no easy feat but the beautiful scenery and interesting hole designs will appeal to any player.

Course Closed and failed to contact
While I am a big fan of this course I was not impressed that although they had allowed me to book at 9pm the night before they took the decision on the day to close the course due to frost. They failed to contact me despite my golf now confirmation clearly showing my telephone number. I drove 25 miles to the course for nothing.....not impressed!
Awesome course.
Challenging and definitely worth the money. Back nine is long and deserving of handicap and slope.
Winter at the Neuse
After a long frost delay, we teed off on time, but pace of play was very slow. After two groups in front of us quit, we managed to finish before dark. The course was in good condition as always. The staff is professional and nice. Not sure what can be done to help with frost delays but would be nice to get things moving faster when delays occur.
One of the better courses in the area
Course was in very good condition for the middle of January.
first time was a good time
I consider this course a shot placement course and is not a challenging as I was lead to believe.
Lots of sand
Lots of sand traps! Fairly wide fairways but traps to keep you honest! Nice trac several holes along the river!
Best course for the money
Championship course in a very good condition and great value for the money
Neuse
Great condition for winter time golf. Back nine long and difficult so be prepared. I'll be back .
Great course
This was the third course I've played and the fourth game I've played. It is the most challenging of the three. It was difficult for me, as a beginner, to hit a ball and not know where the flag was. The course is very hilly.
Overall, it was a great learning experience. I am looking forward to playing on this course in the future--the weather warms up.
The Neuse
I would not recommend to seniors with health problems or those with problems walking due to hip or knee problems. Some holes would be a challenge for them. I like the course as it has peaks, valleys and a nice layout design. I was not please with the greens. I have played five different courses in the past 10 days and these greens I would rate at the bottom at this time out of those I played.
great course
Beautiful course! Greens where in fantastic shape. This was my second time playing the course. The only recommendation is to get more help in the kitchen/lounge. Both times when making the turn, I stopped to get a snack and was delayed 15 minutes. Each time there was only 1 person trying to keep up in the kitchen. She was working diligently and I felt bad that she had no help.
always like the Neuse
Greens were great. only issue with them is not with course, but players who don't fix their divots. Neuse is a great layout. Always was. still is. Good value and well maintained. Friendly staff and nice practice facility. what more can you ask.
The Course has potential
Course in fairly good condition. Twice now 5 hour round and no course manager to manage groups. Last round here at this course.
Great course as always.
We were a little late for our tee time, no scolding from the desk, slipped us right in and we paired up with the twosome in front of us. One green had some blight, otherwise, it would be five stars for conditions, especially for the price. Always one of my favorite courses. Nice views of the Neuse river along a couple holes.
Play was a little slow this day, and we had a threesome behind us who thought they would be cute and hit into us and camp right behind us while we waited for a green to clear. Apparently they're not used to confrontations, because they backed down pretty quick, didn't get within 300 yards of them the rest of the day. Not the club's fault, but the only blight on a beautiful day.
Good course, good value
I've played this course numerous times and I'm always impressed with the overall quality. It is always in at least fair condition and most often I find it to be in good to very good condition. It provides some challenge, but does not punish the average golfer. The greens did have some rough spots and a few tee boxes were a bit barren, but nothing so bad that negatively impacted the round. The Neuse is a solid course I will absolutely play again.
Excellent course
The Neuse is a fantastic course, great layout demanding placement off the tee and ample strategy. I struggled as it was my first time. My bad shots would have been bad anywhere but even some solid shots were penalized by a poor line. Pay attention to sloping fairways as your ball can quickly run into trouble if shaded too far toward the low side. This is not at all to say the the course is unfair, far from it, just that a particular line off of many tees would be most beneficial.
Scoring aside, I loved the layout and variety of holes. The strategy demanded in whether to lay-up or carry a hazard, flying your ball to the green's proper level, placing your tee shot with regard to the green's location and/or pin placement. It all adds up to a fun, challenging yet fair test of golf.
The greens on the back were spotty in appearance yet putted true. Crews however, were busily addressing the conditions. Tee-boxes and fairways were excellent. The bermuda rough was healthy and sticky, particularly on chips, as bermuda can be.
The starter and pro-shop staff were cordial and accommodating, in all a fine experience and I'll be sure to return.
Nucor
Course was in excellent condition! Staff was behind us on every front nine holes to ask us to play faster. We were 4 guys teeing together.
The Neuse
Great time at The Neuse! Overall excellent course, friendly staff, and a beautiful 14th.
Great design
Played this course many times before it's a great layout course is always in good condition. Members and guests need to work on their Divet repair skills so the hard-working greens crew can keep these Great greens in tiptop shape. Short drive from Raleigh . I will be back.
Great course!
The Neuse is a challenging course! Be ready to walk and climb though ... several holes are cart path only and are not for non-walkers! All in all, beautiful and enjoyable.
